  • What if there was one equalizer that could recreate the best aspects of some of the greatest equalizers in the industry? Imagine ONE EQ that could have the silky top end of classic tube EQ's, the clear and present midrange of some of the great discrete EQ's, and the fat low end of vintage mastering EQ's - all in one module. Introducing the CUSTOM SERIES Equalizer by Slate Digital.
    The Custom EQ is like an EQ All-Star team. It’s the result of studying over a dozen classic analog EQ’s, and identifying all the best attributes of each of them, and then piecing these best attributes together in one EQ. So that means that every band of the Custom EQ has it’s own uniquely modeled boost design, it’s own distinct attenuation design, and even its own analog modeled output section with rich musical harmonics to give it a lively analog vibe. But despite the EQ’s hybrid nature, you’ll find it to be extremely cohesive, intuitive, and really really natural sounding.
    The high band boost is inspired by really smooth and open sounding tube mastering EQ’s so they’re going to add dimension, clarity, and depth... but without sounding thin and harsh. The upper midrange band boost is inspired by a combo of classic analog EQ’s, and it’s designed to increase the presence, impact, and punch but without sounding honky, nasal, and abrasive. The low-mid and low band boosts were inspired by a vintage solid state mastering EQ. They will add warmth, punch, and bigness without sounding boxy, boomy, or muddy.
    And again, the cuts of each band have their own character and shape too, all optimized for their specific roles… so the Custom high band will reduce the thinness and harshness of your source but it won’t take away clarity… the upper-mid cut is designed to transparently remove the abrasive and nasal qualities without removing presence… the low-mid cut can remove the boxiness and mud without removing the warmth.. the low-end cut can remove boominess without making the source sound weak and weightless, and the high and low pass filters are designed with an extremely gentle slope so that they always make the audio source remain natural.

    Nothing better than the co-founder demoing the plugins himself. Cause who can know the plugin better than the designer? Plus tips and tricks as well. Wow. What better can a end-user expect? Amazing.

    I burst out laughing with a couple of these A/B's, it seems to just take everything you give it and make it sound like it was recorded at Ocean Way.

    Steven, I hate you. I mean I love you, but I hate you. Since you branched out of the drum sample arena, I have really enjoyed your plug-ins. I own everything you sell (at least I did, until a few hours ago). I use very little "W" plug-ins anymore because everything you offer works so much better for my applications (please come out with a Neve-style compressor). I am a firm believer in the fact that plug-ins will not make you sound better as a mix engineer or producer (or mastering, for that matter), but EVERY TIME YOU COME OUT WITH A PLUG-IN, I HAVE TO HAVE IT! I am like a crack whore...so much for the G-rating...and your team gives me my fix. Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to get my hands on the new stuff (countdown T minus 30 seconds until that happens).

    I have to say, I really like this EQ. It has elements of several different types of EQ involved; with both Tube and SS discreet modeling. There are no big bells and whistles or anything, but then again, an EQ shouldn't have to have those things.It does what it was designed to do, and it does it very well. I'm particularly pleased with the mid-range and upper frequency controls. I've had it for about a month now - while it's not my only EQ, it is now in my "most often used" folder - because I am very pleased with it - as I am with ALL my Slate plugs ( I have them all, and use them often - along with SSD4, which I recently purchased, and it has become my "go-to" drum sample player... previous to SSD, I was using Superior, and I think that SSD is far better). LOL - and no, I don't work for Slate... but I sure would like to! ;)FWIWd.

    It's actually crazy timing. Literally this week I was looking for a nice subtle - yet very pleasing eq. Love the slate ones already, but I wanted something a little 'sweeter' and delicate. This is EXACTLY what I was after!

      I own and love both the AIR and Custom Series EQ's - it's not really fair to compare the two, because they're different TYPES of EQ's, using different filters, Q's, etc.. To say that one is "better" than the other is kinda like saying that a screwdriver is better than a hammer... they're both very useful - it just all depends on the tool you need for what you're building at the time. ;)

    Hi! do a pro engineer really can find those problematic frequencies this fast? I mean in genereal. Or was it written out before the video?

      Most engineers who have been doing recording/mixing for any serious length of time are able to listen to a track and accurately analyze it fairly quickly as to what it needs (or doesn't need) ... sometimes all it takes is just one listen.
      As long as they have accurate monitoring, most are quick to zone in on problems - after all, it's our job. :) It does take time to train your ears, though, to be able to do this type of quick analysis, but when you do it everyday for any serious length of time, you get to be pretty good at it. :)

    • @kbuss10
      @kbuss10 8 лет назад

      MrDonnyAir yes i know but here he only finds it w one hand movement, he doesnt even wobble around a given freq to find it... like if he would have a perfect pitch in frequency, and know numerically where to set before the fact.. i think ist a bit unrealistic....
