This line speaks volumes about his character.
Does it really speak volumes? What does it tell us about his character?
@@nodoublestandards5956 Yes, it does. Don't be so skeptical. What it expresses is straightforward: unselfishness/generosity. It also seems humanistic. These are the virtues your skepticism arrogantly denies.
It doesn’t imply total selflessness, he’s too smart for that. It is simply coming from a place of service beforehand
Thank you each one of you for making my comment into such a quality discussion.
Once Elon said that he wondered why people called him a businessman while he considered himself to be just a developer/ engineer.
I admire Elon so much because
1. he has worked relentlessly in his life through which he exhibits the "You Live Only Once" message ( in its working sense) to the whole world. He has that legendary Billionaire's Mindset, i.e., THINK BIG, which is hard to find, hard to develop.
2. He exhibits a warrior personality. Remember the time when the whole world was busy either laughing or shaming him for his failed attempts? When his own "American heroes" were speculating his ability?
Going to Work each day with that pain in heart, dealing with a plethora of difficulties in an invention ( electric cars, rockets) about which he hardly knew anything.
Can anyone be so greedy/ insane to risk his everything just to build the future?
In an interview, when asked, "Was there ever a thought of giving up/ stopping if he couldnt have controlled the booster lander?
Without any single thought, almost in tears,
He said, "Never".
Why?
" I dont know."
3. I think the way Elon follows the ideal of Work is Worship, is unmatched.
Honestly guys, this was my opinion. I shall respectfully accept yours too.
Have a Good Day:)
Im shell shocked. This guy has poured every ounce of his soul into 2 companies in which he doesn't care if they succeed
One of the best lines from Elon is “You have to do what’s the right thing , even if the odds aren’t on your side .”

Uh huh but right or wrong is a very delicate concept. Sometimes you may think you're right but you're delusional and other times even when the whole world tells you you're wrong, you'll end up proving them wrong. It heavily leans on perception if u ask me
Props to the interviewer, for asking the best questions. He's a true fan.

He is Sam Altman, CEO of Y combinator till recently..
Do you know who he is?
So that is what sets him apart. He is a samurai at heart. He is willing to loose everything
and get burned for his dreams. Wow. Can you imagine being a billionaire and loose your billions for your dreams? He must be either ridicolously resilient or totally fine with poverty.
A guy like him could find a job to support himself though.
it doesn't matter if you jump from a skyscraper, that you landed on a 20-story building, you are still high but you fell frighteningly much.

"fear, fear is the mind killer" - Elon Musk
Thats a song by adam freeland from like 15 years ago
@@professionalshooter1 It is from the novel Dune from like 60 years ago
it's probably the most badass line in all of literature: I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
Wow, he didn’t even think that a car company would be successful . Yet he still went along with created and invested in Tesla. This man gives faith an entirely new meaning. He has more faith than he thinks he does.
True, but also the reason he did not think Tesla would succeed. Is because he thinks massively about probability. And if you know much about car companies, almost all of them have gone Bankrupt at one point or another. Including BMW, Mercedes etc.
Answered like a true man of science. Willing to pass the baton if he fails to the next guy, is why he is so well respected.
Everybody is looking at Elon's advice while I am looking at his cool jacket. 😆
Kamal Kumar you can’t look at words I hope you know
There's something I like about this man and it's not his money.
Ok, so we got a hardcore reader, super hardworker, super risk-taker, scientist by instinct, entrepreneur, common sense, a desire to save the world. Yeah these attributes are not found in most people, you won't find a homeless man with all these attributes.
you can find a homeless man with all of those, untapped, whilst also having depression/drug issues. I'm not diminishing Musk as I think he's one of a kind but let's not cut all possibilities
k4nd17r33 drugs issues caused by being weak minded and allowing yourself to become addicted to something. Elon is not weak minded.
You can find a homeless man with those he’s either given up can’t find who he is or just hasn’t had a chance
No, a homeless person with drug issues is typically someone with low self-control/self-discipline and important attribute that Elon has that the homeless druggie does not.
And your point is?
He answered that like a 5th dimensional being . Fear is normal , no biggie 🤣 I was programmed to understand this emotion , it’s normal 🤣 my programming allows me to override fear and continue with the mission at hand for the sake of all humanity.🤣 I love this guy !!!
xD but why no biggie?
nz bg = no big deal
Dakoda Fisher let me explain it to you. We are 3 dimensional, we can agree on that, right? What are our computers? 2 dimensional. Even vr isn't 100% 3d. So if we are programmed (which is more likely than us not being) the creators would be a dimension better than us, right? and their creators? a dimension bigger. If one being hasn't realised how to make the same dimension as you are living in, we would be the 2nd worst beings, making the worst beings.
He did not say or mean override fear, but in contrary accept it and deal with the high probability of failing. Override means remove fear, but for him it is a must have factor that drives him to porsuit his dream.
Nidal Al Ghad 🤦🏻♀️ it was a joke ! And override means to reject or cancel , not remove
I love that answer. Whenever I have felt fear, I have thought it means that I shouldn't do it. But, an important decision should no solely be based on fear. The "why" should alway outweigh fear to move forward.
We will look back on him like we do with davinci, gallalieo, Einstein, etc. Heck, I already do
Lets not exagerate.
Why compare genius scientists to a business man/ innovator? Totally different things
Im starting to realize that
demand for genius is a lot lower now, it’s why we don’t see or honestly why we don’t give them acclaim. textbooks will write about elon the same way we talk about people like Tesla. they’re playing totally different games
Ur high
Probabilities have helped me with many decisions. Stopped me from taking risks at times. He just goes for it.👏 but overall I think probabilities have given me courage. I really admire this guy.
Brilliant interviewer - Some of the most interesting questions and answers, thank you.
I'm so glad he had the humility to honestly admit that he feels fear. Considering that Elon is worth billions at such a young age and has some serious celebrity status, I was expecting a pompous answer. Musk was very modest in this interview and I gained much respect for him.
What has helped me with fear is first to accept it and remind myself it makes us human and everyone feels it. Second I focus on the task instead of the goal. It's more important for me to focus on the task and learn from that instead of whether or not I succeed or fail.
I love his honesty. That’s actually really helpful. 🤍
When you accept the fear you can more easily let it go, which means you are less likely to manifest it because you are more focused on your dreams anyway. This man is brilliant.
Accept the probability and keep moving forward. Outstanding point of view. The perception he has with progress is so proactive and hes definitely not selfish.
That was the most inspiration thing I ever heard.
I can feel any emotion to any degree I want. All emotions are the product of my thinking.
The best question ever! 👏👏👏
Wow, he looks at the probabilities, sees they're low, maybe 10% (or 20?), and accepts that. THEN he asks himself, isn't it still worth b/c even if we lose it'll still move the ball forward for another company. I've NEVER heard a CEO say something as selfless as that. If a goal is important enough, even if we can be part of that, one small part of reaching it years later, that's still a job well done, and worth doing. Wow, Elon, you rock!
That was an awesome, inspiring answer
Bravo. Pass the baton/ keep moving things forward
I love how transparent he is
Fear is a good thing. It shines light on what you know you must do
If it means that much, do it, if there is a chance it might work and you believe and love what you do, fear takes the backseat! Wonderfully true! Some of us forget and stop taking any chances and stop doing things we love and believe in. Fear takes over. I needed to hear this! Remarkable man.
"... accept the possibilities"
.... it's simple s*** like this that makes this man smart.
.. most people would say accepting the possibilities is acting on faith or hope, and that's where those people fall to the Wayside.
As an artist I am only limited and blinded by my overzealous non disciplined perception to conceive and perceive.
We can definitely use more people like Elon in the world and America.
I I think it is safe to say that all the problems issues inadequacies and dysfunction of the world come from not people making problems, but people not taking the initiative to deal with problems and take the chances to invent and refine.... whether it's matter or themselves or circumstances.
Thank you for sharing.
Always looking up 🌿
Success is born from failure. To not try only ends in one outcome.
Wow that’s interesting and good point about accepting probabilities
Fear is your biggest friend. If you can transcend fear into self belief, then you become fearless (but you will still feel fear, but it won't affect your decisions)
I have fear every day. So I try so much harder to push through it. Every day I feel it and do it anyways.
Some hacks to manage fear :
- Accept the probabilities
- Don’t think of the negative outcomes. Trust the process and go ahead.
- Remember that you already have nothing to lose, don't take life seriously. We all end up dead.
That is fucking brave. A lot of people young and old have trouble to even accept the fact that they are afraid. This guy is a huge lesson for them.
I really needed this. Taking a gap year for one more attempt to get into med school. Many people told me to choose another field, take the easier route. May Allah help me, pray for me. Fingers crossed!

“I just accepted I would probably lose everything” *wow.*
Mark Gruenwald wrote Marvel Comics' "Captain America" in the 1980s. I remember his version of Cap saying that courage isn't the absence of fear; it's the resolve to not let fear dictate your actions.
Courage isn't the absence of fear. It is acting regardless in the face of fear.
Awesome mindset
He’s just got extreme confidence in his abilities to carry out the very complex projects his mind is able to process ..
Listen to the last part again. There is a deeper lesson there.
I think that is an important factor of what makes a man: once you start caring for something more than yourself and your personal gains, like caring about the quality of your work and people you deal with, you'd find yourself thinking outside of the egocentric box a lot of us subconsciously put ourselves in, and people would notice that.
He and Grimes are such a great match
Why lol
A true risk-taker and a man that has Skin in the Game. No wonder the media hates him so much. He is the polar opposite of them.
Everyone feels fear. The trick is to not allow that fear to paralyze you.
i completely understand what he's saying about feet and not feeling good enough is what motivates you, some people take drugs to get rid of those bad feelings and that happens? they end up with nothing because they took those bad feelings away.
Thanks Elon and Sam. 🙌🙌🙌 YC

Risk is so important in life
Love his mind
Making an instant decision devoid of emotions but purely driven by whether that decision gets him any closer to his ultimate goal (man on mars) is a key attribute sets him apart. His mind is capable of bypassing emotions and reaching a conclusion based only on logic & feasibility!
This guy is somehow wired differently 🤨
Easy for the Genius Of our time to say. Haha.
I have this attitude that if other people can do it, you can too.
I understand. In order to trade the markets efficiently one does need a certain degree of fatalism, due to the fear and emotional response from price swings against your position.
When a person learns to trade they suffer losses, probably for the first time with such regularity. The feeling of loosing equates to failure to the new trader.
Until someone has lost enough (not necessarily in money as some trades are really small in the beginning), but rather, when someone has had to face being wrong over and over, each time loosing a percentage of their overall capital, there needs to be a cut off, where loosing becomes somewhat normalised, and the trader desensitised. Before the transition occurs (acceptance of the risk), there has to be a moment when you're hanging way over the abyss looking down, and if in a draw down (loosing period), it can feel like you will simply trade all of your account away. it's a very vulnerable and yet a strangely liberating feeling.
Possibly a little like when people are forced to accept death, as one of our blessings to the world explains here in this video.
True gentleman 1:25 . Dude really cares about making people's lives better

One thing I fear is that I have a hidden skill/talent that could make me lots of money, but I'll never discover/find out what it is

Certainly glad we have him in the U.S.
Fear is like a breeding of a fierce, the longer you take to face it, the more it will grow.
No, he has fear just like you and I but the only difference is, in business, he has that unique understanding of problem solutions. That gives him the confidence and the drive he needs; consequently fear he overcomes again and again.

Interestingly, this interview was done right before or during the period when Tesla was going through some really serious existential challenges and Elon, in his own words, was running around the factory like a maniac for two years trying to fix the Model 3 production line.
I got this video in recommendations after i watched him talk about deus ex and thoght this video is about him talking about f.e.a.r the game lol
He is courageous
Elon's office looks eerily similar to the one from Elysium movie(at the start, at robot factory).
I see why he loves kakeguri now, he’s a gambling fanatic
I wish he'd come up with a more original name for his company. Yours sincerely, Vijay McTavish, CEO, Turing computer store.
I would love to see him and Madonna face to face in some honest existentialist's kind of conversation.
That would hit me hard!
His secret is he's child-like, shy, and able to approach work as play. All the people around him feel as though they're childhood explorers, working 10-hr or 12-hr days. Yet behind the playful adventure is a brilliant innovator who thinks possibilities. "Wouldn't it be cool if..." I've changed my attitude to work, goals, & possibility based on listening to Elon, & Jordan... 😎
If it matters enough to me, it matters more than fear.
Do you get that?
If I thought I had an 8% or even a 5% chance of success for something like Tesla or Space X, I might do it too. What sucks for me though is that for something of that scale, I imagine my odds of success to be something like 0.01%, or about 1 in 10,000. You'd be a fool to attempt something with those odds, those downsides to failure, unless it was insanely important to you. For those odds I'd like to think it had to do with ones own life itself or the life of a loved one. But I digress...to start a private space company and think you have a single digit chance of success is already way, way out there.
We should give this guy the Keys. Let him rule the world. We will prosper

I had read about his work in some form of amygdala removal. That right side of our amygdala is where (strong) fears come from. I am wondering is he ever had that procedure done on himself? I research a few others that went through the procedure and they hd an increased level of calm in their lives. They normally only performed the procedure on epileptic people, but for trauma CPTSD survivors I hope that can change one day. I figured since her was researching this.. and money can buy anything... he might have done this in some way.
