      Depends on the numbers and productivity. if you create a new job to replace a human - but the new job has 20x the output as it essentially overlooks the robots, and AI - and there is a demand - then the human will still be hired. Your view is naive as you assume static output.

      Automation killed a lot of jobs in the car manufacturing industry but cheap affordable cars that came opened up the need for new roads creating a huge construction boom. The new roads gave opportunities for people to travel cheaply and find work at further distances. This new labour market spawned jobs in almost every sector. I don’t think this will be the same though

    • @ThomasTomiczek
      @ThomasTomiczek 3 месяца назад +2

      @@adamozmin8970 There is no chance it will be the same. First, it is primarily not a new consumer element outside the robots themselves (which will be a major market - and Tesla likely dominates it). Second, it is an attack on work in general. Automation did not build roads at this point - robots and AI replace humans. The main limiting factor will not be AI - servers multitask well -but robots. A robot does not multitask easily (one body in one place) and we need a LOT of them - building them will take years. The first billion will be swallowed up and rarely be seen on the road. It will take a decade or two to really replace all humans where bodies are needed. AI - will do that a lot faster, but only for things that can be done... well, remember COVID? "Oh, I can work from home". Yeah, so can AI ;)

    As a fan of Musk's motivations and achievements I'm not too disappointed on his AI views with respect to the job market. I know I sound like a Musk apologist however, the topic has really polarized many tech specialists and commentators. My biggest concern with AI or LLM tech is their potential to increase unemployment. Unlike previous tech revolutions (e.g. steam engine, automobile, computer etc), the new jobs created by AI will be performed, in the main, by AI.. I really hope I'm wrong however, I recall in the 1980's the UK had 10% unemployment and people rioted in the streets over the poll tax (instead of venting their anger in the ballot box). Should AI result in double digit unemployment (say a modest 20%) the ensuing civil unrest could seriously undermine democratic societies.

    This is possible only if companies consider %90 of their output be done by AI while humans account as a %10 bonus. Meaning the economy is just boosted and all salaries remain the same.

    • @XIOnce-dz6kw
      @XIOnce-dz6kw 2 месяца назад +1

      So that means they can achieve 90% output with less humans... enough to reach 90% without the human bonus will be a metric they'll die for.

    • @jinxxpwnage
      @jinxxpwnage 2 месяца назад

      @@XIOnce-dz6kw I've come to this conclusion because I think as AI gradually takes over most jobs, we'll face a crucial decision point. One possibility is unrest, even a revolt against AI, leading us to halt it. Another option is implementing Universal Basic Income (UBI) as a solution. But let's be real, getting UBI right is no walk in the park. it's going to take time and fine-tuning. In the meantime, a practical way could be to keep human labor in the mix as a bonus while we refine UBI alongside AI advancement. Essentially, while a revolt could cause chaos and harm, nailing down a smooth UBI transition might take longer than we'd like

    • @XIOnce-dz6kw
      @XIOnce-dz6kw 2 месяца назад

      @@jinxxpwnage There still be jobs that can’t be done with AI. I say human capital will just naturally shift towards what is actually needed, and leave grunt and repetitive work to AI. But like you say, some people will be without a job, and need to be retrained and paid, and those essential workers would need an incentive to continue working while getting UBI. Like you have two options, live comfortably and not work, or help people because you want to and get access to even more resources.

    I actually can't wait for it to replace almost all jobs. Why should we eventually still be doing meaningless tasks that can perfectly be done by an AI or robot? To perpetuate the social "game" that labor is? Labor comes from latin "laborare", which means "to strive, exert oneself, suffer, be in distress". In French, we say "travail", which comes directly from "tripalium", an ancient instrument of torture. I understand that we still haven't achieved the point where AI or robots are able to relieve us from this biblical curse, but once it's ready, why not? I think it's quite short-sighted to consider that the nature and destiny of the human species is to work, and that its main source of value. Humans, like all other animals, are valuable by themselves.

    Guys relax ! to make AI do any general job we need very advanced mechanical systems it will take years or probably never to make things as advanced as human beings. In short mechanical engineering is the future not AI but it's a very difficult thing to make machines like organic system IMHO it's impossible.

    The automobile put a lot of buggy whip makers out of business. They ended up making things like leather upholstery for cars. I’d rather have the cars than the continued buggy whip sector.
    We’re not just “headed to“ an age of abundance. We are all IN an age of abundance, thanks to all the tools our forebears also created.

      The automobile put a lot of horses "out of business" too.. They ended up becoming the leather upholstery for cars. lol We are the horse now.
      Our economy ran on human labor until now, but very soon humanoid robots and AI will take over. We will need to rethink how we distribute the resources people need to survive.

      @@GrumpDog agreed. People treating AI like any other form of automation are not doing the math. Elon spoke against AI strongly until recently. AI isn't automating a task like a robotic arm or a motor in a car engine. AI is automating Human thinking and human understanding. With the rise of robots happening in factories, the combination will mean AI is replacing all tasks capable of being done by a human. Any "New job" you can imagine will be 'doable' by a robot with AI also

    • @ThomasTomiczek
      @ThomasTomiczek 3 месяца назад +1

      @@GrumpDog Not only that - we need to rethink our role. I mean, unless AI stops - nowish - we end up the horses, which still exist and mostly have a good live essentially in the majority as - sort of pets. People do not realize how utterly insane AI will get even if it only gets 3x-4x better than it is now and 100x faster. Which - essentially - is a given over just some years time. It is not like hardware has not a decade os prerun - so all the research now out of labs will hit us in a decade. Photonic processors, extremely fast 3d stacked RAM. And models getting 4x better - sure. Not that far. So, how is society going to look? I would not mind being more the junior partner - if I can see the stars among AI.

    AI can be useful for some things, but much like a stagnant mind full of inbred ideas, it will quickly decay without real life experience. _Especially_ as it becomes more common and polluted from other AI outputs. Big companies and grifters will try to replace real workers for a while, but it won't be massively effective in the long run. Human beings are too valuable.
    Automation more generally, however, is of great concern. We have to stop thinking in terms of jobs, and start figuring out a more sustainable economic system. Like Adam Smith and Henry George, I believe the answer lies in ground rents. Ground rents are the unearned increment on a perfectly inelastic necessity, and thus the price would _decrease_ with taxation. Thus, if we replace our tax broken tax system with a single tax on ground rents, it will free up stagnant resources and decrease the cost of living dramatically.
    We can then get rid of our massive government bureaucracy, and just give the money right back to the populace. Over time, this will naturally correct all sorts of issues, even reimbursing the public for all the wealth stolen through unjust use of force of all kinds.

But since humans won't need to work as much, then eventually they'll just have to provide these things for free, since nobody will make money. Heck, if it gets advanced enough, people can just build or create whatever they want. We all just have to agree not to destroy each other for fun...
