I took an entirely different meaning out of “showering”; that he was being sarcastic, and on a deeper level also implying there is no one most important habit, but rather that the key to success is the accumulation of many small 1% habits like showering, brushing teeth, exercising, etc

The answer about shower is not about hygiene, it's because in the shower you have time to think without distractions and interruptions. It's a time for reflection and this releases your brain to soar.

I think he answer showering, not because of confidence and optimism, I think he meant showering is his most creative time, I mean in ray Dalio principles he mentions how our unconscious mind is the more creative part of our brain, and he argues that when he is in the shower the best ideas come to his mind due to the fact that is a time were you are unconsciously very focus on your brain.

I think the video didn't quite get the point about his answer - shower. Elon uses this time to think /process all information he gathered and in many cases, it is when he showers that he gets "fresh" ideas. He talked about this in one of his interviews :)

    Bonus lessons!
This video was already long enough with 5 lessons, but I originally identified 9 when I was researching the topic. Here's a brief look at the other four:
    1. When you hit a roadblock, don't accept the standard solution.
Within the aerospace industry, SpaceX has historically been seen as a bunch of "cowboys" for the seemingly haphazard way they approach everything from testing to launches. But this cowboy mentality can work to their advantage. SpaceX engineers are well known for loading new code onto their rockets during launch prep when bugs are found. Other companies would often delay launches by weeks when similar problems cropped up.
    2. Make sure you have skin in the game.
Part of Elon’s work ethic stems from the fact that he’s personally invested in his projects. While other companies are content to take investor money, Musk’s companies - while also investor and government-backed - got off the ground because Musk himself put his own fortune on the line in order to make them possible. By being personally invested in his companies, Musk knew that their failure would also mean his own financial failure - while he certainly wouldn’t be out on the street, it would at least represent a huge, huge loss. This level of personal commitment evokes the "back against the wall" strategy, which stems from the many historical examples which prove that human beings are much more driven, creative, and productive when they feel that they’re up against a wall; that there’s no way out but to fight through.
    3. Work towards something you believe in.
The majority of Musk’s work ethic is generated by his conviction that humans need to reach Mars, and to eventually become a multi-planetary society. This huge, audacious goal is what drives Musk - and while many will say it’s impossible, or that it at least won’t happen in Musk’s lifetime, this goal has driven him and the teams at his companies to achieve other things that people thought impossible as well.
    4. Break your schedule into small chunks.
Musk uses a technique called time-boxing in order to break his day into 5-minute chunks. This allows him to fit in all the responsibilities that come along with running two companies, but time-boxing is a strategy that also creates some pressure - and as you probably know from the last time you procrastinated on an English paper, only to write the whole thing in one glorious, Red Bull-fueled all-nighter, time pressure is a motivating factor.

Within 1:30 min I totally agree with Elon Musk im showering.Literally, when I was in highschool,I showered every morning regardless of people telling my hair would get dry or whatever. I also showered bc I played sports and sometimes would shower 2x a day but still... showering in the morning just made me feel more rejuvinated even when only sleeping like 3 hours of sleep. When I woke up too late to shower,I would just feel so out of it. A shower changed how I felt the whole day. Never underestimate a good, relaxing shower.

All motivation , success , miracle daily routine , meditation, silence, affirmation, visualization all are just imaginary world. These are traps.
If you want to really great in life , work like Elon musk 100 hour per week honestly. You will famous One day.
      Motivation-These are temporary,
The most powerful secret in success is believe in yourself . You are great. You have all potential inside use it . Take risk.
Desire is most powerful in this. What you really want to achieve.
Stop watching motivational videos. Do work like Elon Musk. 100 hour per week.

The most important lesson one gets from musk and any other guy who achieved something in his life is STOP TAKING LESSONS FROM OTHER PEOPLE AND WATCH MOTIVATIONAL SHIT AND GO OUT AND ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING.
Success is not a science it is the will to persevere and succeed.

Walks with his legions, makes an example by fighting at the front lines, always at the center of all attention, takes himself seriously, takes on seemingly unachievable battles, wide knowledge base of diplomacy and military service, questioning experts and he questioned himself as well. I just read Con Igguldens books on him tho... Mby a little romanticised.

Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done. The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing. In life, people tend to wait for good things to come to them. And by waiting, they miss out. Hi guys!! Let me just share a quick story with you guys. :) We own a cookie shop business in our college town. When we first started it, we were living in our car with very little direction, just a huge passion to be successful. We just graduated college as well. We started the late night cookie shop out of a local bagel shop in their off hours at night. We were living in our car in the parking lot of the shop at the time with my boyfriend, Bran. It was a crazy experience but it worked! We became a success! And now we have 2 storefront locations in New Jersey and Florida! We started it to fund a year long backpacking trip around the world and to be successful while living the life of our dreams.

I shower to get away from everyone and think. Showers are an amazing place to do math, strategize, reflect, and re-center. Oh, and you come out cleaner if that matters to you lol.

I've been reading a biography on Steve Jobs and the part about setting unrealistic goals that fall short but still get the most out of employees is exactly the sort of thing Steve Jobs did

Angela, That's pretty funny. I had a student who I had send to the showers as his BO was really distracting, and not in a good way.

    Man, I gotta say...
This video came at a perfect time for me. The last few months I've been stagnant in my business and life in general. I've been playing tons of video games and not pushing myself like I used to. I randomly saw your video pop up, watched it, and realized all the things I knew but wasn't implementing.
I love your channel, Thomas! It's really awesome. You're an inspiration to a lot of people, myself including! Keep up the hard work, man.

Very inspiring! I'm a medical student, who wrote a fantasy novel and trying to make a website to market it. The people around me told me to only focus on one thing. Yeah, of course medicine will always be my number one priority in terms of learning, but it's not wrong to learn things beyond your specialty, given that you're able to manage your time.

Could you do a similar video for Gabe Newell or Valve, and their weird hierarchy and work culture? It seems almost opposite of the one described at Tesla or from Elon Musk, and it would be interesting for a compare/contrast follow-up video.

I feel he's just more open about what he's working on then most companies. billionaires are private which creates the illusion he gets a lot more done than others. Germans tend to be secretive and released things when they're absolutely perfect, when Americans make a show of something in development.
