- Welcome to Season 2 of my ONI playthroughs! We'll be focusing on learning Mid-Game Mechanics this time around!
Please check out the whole series! tinyurl.com/yc...
I last played this game in 2019, with over 100 hours of playtime. It was such a great experience, I wanted to revisit it now that they are out of EA and have some DLC available!
This is a raw playthrough where we'll learn as we go and we don't edit out mistakes or failures! You see it all from start to finish!
Oxygen Not Included is a space-colony simulation game. Deep inside an alien space rock your industrious crew will need to master science, overcome strange new lifeforms, and harness incredible space tech to survive, and possibly, thrive.
You’ll find that scarcities of oxygen, warmth, and sustenance are constant threats to your colony's survival. Guide colonists through the perils of subterranean asteroid living and watch as their population grows until they're not simply surviving, but thriving...
Just make sure you don't forget to breathe.

research stations get a boost when there is light, maybe worth sticking it next to the portal printer
That's a good idea for free light. Thanks for the tip and for watching!
Dont forget to put some doors up to create some rooms to get morale bonuses. Also Rust Oxidizer is not new just not alot of use cases on the beginning world since salt and rust are usually further out then the easily accessible algae. But i like the laid back feel good for me to get side work done while i watch what i would rather be doing.
I did that in the little after-recording work I do between episodes on Ep 2. Good reminder though!
Thanks for watching!
at 46:33 dont be a fan for steam vents at the start they produce a lot of heat that can cause more harm than good
I said what I said! XD
I'm def not going to open it until I need to but the last playthrough was similar. One near the base right at the start.
Sooooo. Hopefully, I'll be able to use the, several, failed attempts as lessons to tame this one. :D
Just tumbled across your channel and am very pleased with the sizable series to dump my free time into! I really love this game and have a few dozen tips I've been waiting to share, I just hope they don't ruin the blind-ness of your experience.
Firstly, the 'unusual traits' at the world select screen are actually really fun, they can increase gyser and vent spawning, increase slime molds, and even freeze the chore of the asteroid you select. They're random, but traits make every game a touch different, and all asteroids (excluding terra, clearly), have traits like these, I recommend 'Rime' for extra metal and rust, which can be used for oxygen, salt, nosh beans/ tofu, and steam vents that are cool eneough to use early game. Plus, It's too cold for Slimelung germs!
Also, at 7:36 the arrow next to the reroll button can guarantee a skill interest in the rolled dupe. This is nice if moral isn't your thing and you want an easy pilot or rancher.
Right at the start of your colony is when you want to *NOT* uproot plants. These plants can be used to make a nature reserve in a central position that you can run ladders through so every dupe in the colony gets a free moral boost, just for looking at a plant for a brief 5 frames. (Muckroot count as plants if you can see their red tufts, and their nice because they do not need things like light and oxygen.)
Free blueprints are all cosmetic, but unwanted blueprints can be scrapped to craft others. Blueprint scraps can be made into outfit components too! This has no effect on decor (hence *"cosmetic"*), but look nice to the player and viewers instead!
Adding downtime to a shift grants a bit of moral, i don't know if it's forth sacrificing the work time though.... Probably don't forget the priorities right next to the schedule button, making dupes good at digging prioritize digging is actually crazy. My mind is blown. Just imagine, being told you're good at digging, being interested in digging, and then getting told to do less dumb stuff and more digging! Luxury life for the diggers out there. When I first found the consumables tab, I used it to ensure my dupes never ate raw meat, as barbecue gives *much* more moral this is nice for eggs aswell. It can also be used to force dupes who receive extra morale from food to eat nasty stuff; they like it more than the others do, after all.
Though it may be considered unmoral to some, there are save scumming capabilities in *Oxygen not included* for those who love the gamble of the printing pod.
As for research, I prioritize meal prep because of the metal a plumbed bathroom takes.
I may be wrong, but alternate schedules means only one dupe is using the bathroom at a time, as their bath-time blocks are at different times, does this not mean only one washbasin is needed?
I do apologize if I just repeat info you already know, keep up the great content with the great game. Thanks for the long-form vids too! I see so many good creators find so much success with a good game and leave it without even making a second episode. I guess they got bored.
Love the content, hope I could help, and *REALLY* hope I didn't annoy. Good luck with normal mode! :salute (I could've sworn there was a saluting emoji, idk)
Lots of great tips here. Some of which, I did learn in the first play series but, good nevertheless. :D
I'll have to remember the re-roll tip for the next start, for sure! I have been considering the nature reserve and your suggestion makes sense. I always had one but never right in-line with their work pathing.
As far as save scumming. While I've been happy to do that in BG3, because I'm story driven, you won't see it in this playthrough. XD If I'm negligent and kill dupes or make a stupid decision. You'll see it.
Once I have food security, I'll have more dupes per shift and I'm doing all I can to not germ up my water supply. :D
We are one in success and failure in this journey. :D It is frustrating when the dupes do stupid stuff though. LOL
Thanks for your comment and support!
45:58 , you ignored it on your last playthrough.
Thanks!
Yeah. It wasn't useful in that world. :D
