  • In this weeks video I’m going to be tackling some out door projects. One is getting rid of some weeds so I can plant some flowers. I ordered the Grandpas weeder and I’m going to give that a try.
I also have some hostas and bleeding hearts plants I want to get in the ground.

Those Hostas look fantastic in that bed! I planted some white calla Lillie's in 2017 when my dad passed away they come up around mother's day and bloom every year around father day. I bought some more to plant that are different colors. The deer and rabbits like to eat my hostas but the don't bother my lamb's ear. I planted 2 lambs ear in my landscape a few years ago and both are massive now. I need to divide them come fall.

You're doing great! I always love your enthusiasm. 💕🦋 🐶
10:25 Root-spreading is optional and it really depends on the plant -- I do it more when planting woody shrubs and trees, especially if the roots have gone round-and-round upon themselves inside the pot. Otherwise, not really a big deal.
P.S. With the larger varieties of hostas, when they get big after a few years of growing you can "spade propagate" them -- divide the whole plant, root and all, right down the middle with a shovel, then leave half the plant in the original hole and plant the other half somewhere else. More hostas! 🌿🌿🌿

When there are so many plants in the hanging baskets, there are too many roots. I usually take mine down and sit them in a pan of water and let them soak it up from the bottom. That way they are getting a nice drink instead of running off and going straight through the basket. I also water some from the top but not on the foliage. Those baskets are too crowded, but looks great. Sometimes I put them in a larger basket with new soil and just sit the whole thing in the new basket without removing the soil from the plant.

When you said it’s a beautiful day it reminded me of my 3 YO grandson who wakes up every morning and says “it’s a beautiful, sunny day outside!” Gotta love those kids! Getting excited about the holiday weekend coming since we just came back from North Myrtle Beach. OMG it was absolutely wonderful - you and the hubs need to go if possible. North Myrtle is different than Myrtle - according to others it is more relaxing and it was as costly as I has budgeted so that is always sweet! Until next week -

we bought a similar garden tool 2 years ago. it saves ALOT of time if you put weeds into a low bucket then pour into bag later or get one of the kiddos or hubs to stand next to you and pull off the weed and place it in the bag. it halves your time using the tool because the hardest part is shaking it free into the bag.

Hey Jodi: you could also try Hucheras aka Coral Bells in the front bed that you planted the hostas and bleeding hearts in-they will tolerate shade as well and they have beautifully colored leaves in many different hues that would look wonderful in that front bed. Also, what about putting your new plant stand and plants in your front room in front of the window (opposite the chairs)? Just a suggestion as IDK the traffic that room gets. I remember you once said your grand babies play in that room some, so maybe not a good place? Another great video! Thanks!

Hi Jodi 👋 dandelions send down deep tap roots that break up hard souls, especially clay souls and that helps make the soil more "friable" & hospitable to other plants.
Personally, I ALWAYS split the roots of potted plants to get bigger plants but that's me. My hand decided it needs a break from using the box cutter on rug removal so right now I'm kind of stuck until after the first when I'm going to try to get a carpet cutter. They're more hand friendly but require CAREFUL attention to detail to avoid cutting into the floor... We will see how THAT goes. 😅
Bleeding ❤️ s are great!!! They should love that location. The acidity or lack of it in your soul can affect the color of the blooms.
Your friend the gardener will probably always have some splits from overlarge clumps of perennials to share. You can always ask if she has anything she doesn't have a home for that would do well in your spaces... It's not rude to a gardener, it's a source of gardening pride ( to be able to share) & relief ( to have a home for the extras) to be able to rehome plants.
Plant stand.... maybe put the antheria on the lower outside spot? To prevent getting parts broken with kid/ pet rough housing that inevitably happens???
Yes. Those tall sunflowers are the mammoths. They're ready to plant now!
The plant nibblers... Try this, spray bottle of warm water. Add a few drops of dish soap and swirl once sprayer is on. Spray all the leaves of the affected plants.
Those other little ones could be affected by the same things OR could definitely have to do with the temps. They usually prefer 50s & above in my experience.
Looks great. I'd say you got quite a lot done!!!
    Have a great week, Jodi

Hi, jodi. Your flowers are looking so good. Both inside & out! I love your new plant stand. I'm so happy with all the new leaves coming on your plants! Oh, I love your hair! My snapdragons died & they were from a nursery. I don't know what I did. They weren't in the sun. I watered them almost every day. I might have over watered them. Anyway, get some shamrock they're east to grow. If they do get less water, they die off some, but just keep watering them & they'll come up again from the roots. My kids would play so hard & knocked mine over & I thought it was dead. But nope, they came back. Have a great day! Thanks for sharing! ♥️☺️🫂🐾🐾🪴🥒🍅🍄🌹🦋🦩🌺✨️

Isn’t it wonderful that it doesn’t matter at all how old we get, but we still can grow and develop enthusiasm for something we didn’t care for or were even afraid of? It’s crocheting for me, and I still remember the pinch of panic in your voice when you showed your first breathing plant, and not one of the faux ones. I love how much light your livingroom gets so much light. I am jealous. Our house is pretty dark. My raven zz is doing good but could be better. If I put all my plants in my plant room (brightest room in my house) then no one would get to see them, including me if I don't go in that room. But my huge monstera and lily are in that room. I have clipped some of my pothos to make my currrent pothos thicker. I had a prayer plant, it died 😢. My other monstera is tall but only has 3 stems. I will have to share a picture of my big plants. My daughter is supposed to help me split up my huge monstera and put in a moss pole. I am too nervous to do it alone. I sent you a picture of my 1st peony plant that grew in my hard after planting the bulb 2 yrs ago. I dead headed it and am excited to hopefully see it thrive. I have the Fiskars brand weed tool which is plastic and works great too. It's very light and the handle slides down to flling the weed off the tool. For really shallow roots I use a stirrup hoe (or scuffle hoe is another name). The bottom part is a blade. You glide it along the weeded area ( with a little pressure) and it cuts just under those shallow tiny weeds. Then grab your leaf rake and lightly rake off the weeds. That Grandpa weeder looks rugged indeed. What color are the bleeding hearts? Free perennials are the best. I have a white bleeding heart. They bloom early (mid April here in 6a Upstate ny) It was still in bloom when the lilacs started to bloom. I have my bleeding heart in dappled shade. It'll die back on its own then come back bigger the next year. Take pics of where everything is now so you don't accidently take grandpa's weeder to it next Sprintime. 😆 (I take alot of pictures of my gardens for a lot of reasons). Mine now has a spread of 3ft. And it's been 3 years since I planted it from a 2" pot. I hope your Dahlias made it through Winter storage.

The plant stand is awesome! I may not know what I'm talking about, and it's too late now, but I thought that if leaves turned yellow or died off, they were getting too much direct sun. Maybe you can move the other zinnias? Just wondering, I'm not a major gardener like you. It's so fun to get all of the flower/plant updates. Take care! 💖🌻🌷🪻

It depends on the plant/flower but yes too much sun can definitely burn and yellow the leaf. Zinnias are sun loving and thrive with lots of sun and heat.

Fun fact: dandelions have huge environmental benefits. One being they loosen hard impacted soil created from the previous winter season!! 😊

@@jodidunnmymessylife1847, I am planning on getting dark pink peonies from my son's place in a few days. The blooms are so beautiful until it rains and they fall over, so they need something around them. Tomato cages work.

Maybe it is a variety thing, but sedum prefers full sun and will flop over if it has too rich of soil or too much shade.
