jws are not only conditioned to not only question nothing, but also coerced and manipulated to question nothing, not even (or maybe especially even) about changed views! I once wrote to the society about how the scripture that it was quoting established that past prophets, etc. would be resurrected out of sequence with others of the same generation; the response I got was basically simply a repetition of the previous words, which is not an explanation, just a way of avoiding one. Because there’s NO such scripture, it was simply taken out of context, as the borg does with other of its dogma.

When I began my ministry with JW’s in 1962, there was no discussion about Taze or Rutherford. Even when I asked direct questions, I remember they were discreetly avoided by the publishers studying with us.

My own mother (a Holocaust survivor, and my father was a combat veteran from Poland) became drawn into this sect because of her emotional state), had her life been different, so would my own. Rutherford was definitely a piece of work! UGH! Regarding his comments about servants, 26:19, Watchtower sometime later (when?) "corrected" the part about the origins of the black race. Read the last paragraph on the topic "Ham" (Noah's son) in the Insight on the Scriptures Volume 1, page 1023. While they don't reference Rutherford's earlier remarks, they do admit, "some persons have incorrectly held that the black race....resulted from the curse pronounced upon Canaan." Growing up around JW's, I do recall that my JW grandfather delivered a talk (about the Flood and the sons of Noah) many times around the Maryland congregations back in the 60's that was the same information cited in the Insight book.

Regarding Rutherford’s racism, his belief regarding the curse of Ham was rampant among 19th Century Christians. Rutherford was born in 1869 and many of his fundamental prejudices were formulated from that era. When he was born we Americans had just finished fighting the bloodiest war ever over racism. Despite having won freedom the racial hatred many whites still held led to Jim Crow which lasted into the 1970s! Unfortunately much of that racial hatred still exists in our day. In a recent video Lloyd noted that 64 year olds are indeed old. As a 64 year old I won’t argue, I’d take 40 back in a heartbeat. While I grew up in the NYC area, most of my family was from the south. I clearly remember “separate but equal” white and “colored “ public bathrooms and drinking fountains. That kind of thinking was even worse in Rutherford’s day. Rutherford was born a Missourian which during the Civil War had largely Confederate sympathies. It drives a stake through one’s heart to hear that hateful racist rhetoric found in the pages of Rutherford’s writings. Jehovah’s organization indeed! I wish it could be said that generally our society has made more progress towards racial equality, but sadly hate is hard extinguish. To see hate promulgated in the pages of Watchtower is unforgivable despite the time in which it was written. If Watchtower were in fact “God’s “ organization did God change his mind regarding race? Morality regarding the absolute equality of the “races “ should always be an indelible truth that never changes, and so Jehovah’s softened racial enlightenment in recent decades proves without question that Watchtower could never have been God’s “channel “, or organization or anything because God never changes regarding truth including the truth regarding the equality of races. Truth is truth and always is the same and never changes. Watchtower’s “ truth” has changed so many times, it’s obvious that it never had the truth at any time in its history, and never was God’s organization.
The Civil War wasn't fought over "racism", although the issue of slavery became an emotional and moral political issue in the process. Going back to the documents of that era would shred a different light on the matter. Find period books. Not denying that slavery needed to be abolished. It's abhorrent, just like murder. My relatives, on both sides of the family, were Northerners on many of the border states (Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland) going back 100 years prior to this war. My great-great grandmother lead the Underground Railroad in Maryland.
Peaceful Prevailer It’s interesting to hear from someone who had ancestors involved in that dangerous work. I had a great great grandfather fight in the war with an Indiana infantry. If perhaps we differ on the underlying reasons for the war I think we can agree that Watchtower was born in an era of nearly unchecked bigotry and racial hatred, and Rutherford reflected the prevailing outlook of his day. The United States held itself as a shining beacon for the ideals of freedom and opportunity for the oppressed of Europe. Though Bible Students were not to partake in politics at all( it was taboo to vote ) growing up nonetheless I heard many Bible Students say that God had specially chosen the United States to initiate the proclamation of the truth through Charles Taze Russell’s work. I’m sure there had been Jehovah’s Witnesses who expressed similar sentiments. But they fail to realize how short these “far sighted “ men fell from being truly forward thinking individuals.

It was possible that personal views influenced the results of WT early publications. But during the Inspection Period (1914-1918), when Christendom mutually supported their respective countries, the Bible student remained neutral politically. Because of that they believe their organization has been chosen by Jesus in 1919 as His chosen organization on earth.

That is the whole story from the day Rutherford met Russell to the day Russell died. Did they get along well? Was Rutherford already scheming behind the scenes while Russell was alive? Did Rutherford try to take control of things while Russell was absent?

Some groups of Bible Students still study Russell's teachings specifically his series of books, "Studies in the Scriptures". This demonstrates that Russell's teachings have merit amongst some today. But I know of no groups today who study Rutherford's self invented hogwash. My Kingdom Hall had a workable phonograph and Rutherford's records which I would play when I would lock myself up in the library. Brother Cold who knew Russell donated them to the KH when he passed. When the KH was remodeled, I don't know what happened to those antiques. Wonder the value of the phonograph and records today as antique items?
I think Bonnie Boyd was Who you might have had in mind regarding his “ personal secretary.” Bonnie introduced Rutherford to Berta Peale at a Convention. And while Rutherford spent the Great Depression years living well above the standard of living for most Americans, his very own wife ( whom he never divorced) and son Malcolm were barely eking out a living in East Los Angeles just 100 miles north of the luxury of Beth Sarem. Rutherford was a truly despicable individual. I hate to refer to him as being human. Rutherford met Robert Hare’s clinical definition for a psychopath. Malcolm Rutherford lived a long but reclusive life in the LA area and repeatedly refused to be interviewed by biographers about his notorious father. Some have suggested a possible reconciliation between father and son... this has something to do about a trip to Hawaii in the late 1930s. But if you look at the details of that incident one night come to another conclusion. Olin Moyle’s open letter of resignation had Rutherford’s misdeeds correct right down to the last detail. So what did Rutherford do? He became infuriated and threw Moyle and his family out onto the streets of Brooklyn with nowhere to go. Everything Rutherford did was simply awful.

Just a crazy fantasy on my part, but if I ever win the lottery or have the financial means, I would buy Beth Sarim. I’d dig up the grounds to find Rutherford’s remains, and ship them to the org headquarters. I’d raze the entire place to the ground after finding whatever artifacts I could to send them to various interested non-WT parties, and devote some of the area to local LGBTQ, Feminist, Jewish, and Humanist communities/organizations. All to make sure this guy’s post mortem existence was disrupted in every way I could conceive of.

When I began my ministry with JW’s in 1962, there was no discussion about Taze or Rutherford. Even when I asked direct questions, I remember they were discreetly avoided by the publishers studying with us.

Yet my mom and sis are there, not sure if I should try and send them stuff to open their eyes or leave them as they are, seemingly being happy there...After disfellowshipping I left my country, Poland, and have been living in Ireland for 4 years now.Our contact is limited, only possible via text once in a while. I think I would feel guilty for showing them facts and ruining their safe, secure bubble. Yet by not showing them the facts and holding back, I feel guilty too🥺

Rutherford was definitely a piece of work! UGH! Regarding his comments about servants, 26:19, Watchtower sometime later (when?) "corrected" the part about the origins of the black race. Read the last paragraph on the topic "Ham" (Noah's son) in the Insight on the Scriptures Volume 1, page 1023. While they don't reference Rutherford's earlier remarks, they do admit, "some persons have incorrectly held that the black race....resulted from the curse pronounced upon Canaan." Growing up around JW's, I do recall that my JW grandfather delivered a talk (about the Flood and the sons of Noah) many times around the Maryland congregations back in the 60's that was the same information cited in the Insight book.
Ok that was jaw dropping lol I did figure him to be a drunkard and a womanizer but WoW those dirty details 😲 The Organization sure does have the audacity to still laid him as a hero to the faith. He dispensed “spiritual food?” He is nothing more than a punch line in a joke.
Regarding Rutherford’s racism, his belief regarding the curse of Ham was rampant among 19th Century Christians. Rutherford was born in 1869 and many of his fundamental prejudices were formulated from that era. When he was born we Americans had just finished fighting the bloodiest war ever over racism. Despite having won freedom the racial hatred many whites still held led to Jim Crow which lasted into the 1970s! Unfortunately much of that racial hatred still exists in our day. In a recent video Lloyd noted that 64 year olds are indeed old. As a 64 year old I won’t argue, I’d take 40 back in a heartbeat. While I grew up in the NYC area, most of my family was from the south. I clearly remember “separate but equal” white and “colored “ public bathrooms and drinking fountains. That kind of thinking was even worse in Rutherford’s day. Rutherford was born a Missourian which during the Civil War had largely Confederate sympathies. It drives a stake through one’s heart to hear that hateful racist rhetoric found in the pages of Rutherford’s writings. Jehovah’s organization indeed! I wish it could be said that generally our society has made more progress towards racial equality, but sadly hate is hard extinguish. To see hate promulgated in the pages of Watchtower is unforgivable despite the time in which it was written. If Watchtower were in fact “God’s “ organization did God change his mind regarding race? Morality regarding the absolute equality of the “races “ should always be an indelible truth that never changes, and so Jehovah’s softened racial enlightenment in recent decades proves without question that Watchtower could never have been God’s “channel “, or organization or anything because God never changes regarding truth including the truth regarding the equality of races. Truth is truth and always is the same and never changes. Watchtower’s “ truth” has changed so many times, it’s obvious that it never had the truth at any time in its history, and never was God’s organization.
The Civil War wasn't fought over "racism", although the issue of slavery became an emotional and moral political issue in the process. Going back to the documents of that era would shred a different light on the matter. Find period books. Not denying that slavery needed to be abolished. It's abhorrent, just like murder. My relatives, on both sides of the family, were Northerners on many of the border states (Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland) going back 100 years prior to this war. My great-great grandmother lead the Underground Railroad in Maryland.
Peaceful Prevailer It’s interesting to hear from someone who had ancestors involved in that dangerous work. I had a great great grandfather fight in the war with an Indiana infantry. If perhaps we differ on the underlying reasons for the war I think we can agree that Watchtower was born in an era of nearly unchecked bigotry and racial hatred, and Rutherford reflected the prevailing outlook of his day. The United States held itself as a shining beacon for the ideals of freedom and opportunity for the oppressed of Europe. Though Bible Students were not to partake in politics at all( it was taboo to vote ) growing up nonetheless I heard many Bible Students say that God had specially chosen the United States to initiate the proclamation of the truth through Charles Taze Russell’s work. I’m sure there had been Jehovah’s Witnesses who expressed similar sentiments. But they fail to realize how short these “far sighted “ men fell from being truly forward thinking individuals.

Much of the writing in early Watchtower publications was written by one or two individuals rather than by the writing department like today.
It was possible that personal views influenced the results of WT early publications. But during the Inspection Period (1914-1918), when Christendom mutually supported their respective countries, the Bible student remained neutral politically. Because of that they believe their organization has been chosen by Jesus in 1919 as His chosen organization on earth.
If God himself picked this organization there is NO WAY racism of any form would ever have been taught! There would be no need to clarify it should NEVER have been taught it's no way around it.

I'm a little disappointed you did not mention that under Rutherford's leadership 75% of all Bible Students defected. He was very lousy at keeping the movement together. Consolidating power is another thing.

I have a question: is there any recorded history regarding the relationship between Rutherford and Charles Taze Russell? That is the whole story from the day Rutherford met Russell to the day Russell died. Did they get along well? Was Rutherford already scheming behind the scenes while Russell was alive? Did Rutherford try to take control of things while Russell was absent?

Some groups of Bible Students still study Russell's teachings specifically his series of books, "Studies in the Scriptures". This demonstrates that Russell's teachings have merit amongst some today. But I know of no groups today who study Rutherford's self invented hogwash.
My Kingdom Hall had a workable phonograph and Rutherford's records which I would play when I would lock myself up in the library. Brother Cold who knew Russell donated them to the KH when he passed. When the KH was remodeled, I don't know what happened to those antiques.

I think Bonnie Boyd was Who you might have had in mind regarding his “ personal secretary.” Bonnie introduced Rutherford to Berta Peale at a Convention. And while Rutherford spent the Great Depression years living well above the standard of living for most Americans, his very own wife ( whom he never divorced) and son Malcolm were barely eking out a living in East Los Angeles just 100 miles north of the luxury of Beth Sarem. Rutherford was a truly despicable individual. I hate to refer to him as being human. Rutherford met Robert Hare’s clinical definition for a psychopath. Malcolm Rutherford lived a long but reclusive life in the LA area and repeatedly refused to be interviewed by biographers about his notorious father. Some have suggested a possible reconciliation between father and son... this has something to do about a trip to Hawaii in the late 1930s. But if you look at the details of that incident one night come to another conclusion. Olin Moyle’s open letter of resignation had Rutherford’s misdeeds correct right down to the last detail. So what did Rutherford do? He became infuriated and threw Moyle and his family out onto the streets of Brooklyn with nowhere to go. Everything Rutherford did was simply awful.
Great Video , I personally think what people need to understand is that as time changes through the years these guys ( GB ) just change there colors to fit the times or as it be they keep there feelers out testing to see how far they can go with there underlying hatred and thirst for power and control. They are extremely deceitful and its very hard for me to imagine how they can sit at the table with each other and even look in a mirror at themselves. I love all this information on this cult that killed my brother and broke up my family. Just a crazy fantasy on my part, but if I ever win the lottery or have the financial means, I would buy Beth Sarim. I’d dig up the grounds to find Rutherford’s remains, and ship them to the org headquarters. I’d raze the entire place to the ground after finding whatever artifacts I could to send them to various interested non-WT parties, and devote some of the area to local LGBTQ, Feminist, Jewish, and Humanist communities/organizations. All to make sure this guy’s post mortem existence was disrupted in every way I could conceive of.

The religion is untrue and, like all religions, is based on faith. You need to believe that Jesus invisibly chose the organization in 1919. If you can believe this, you can also believe that Joseph Smith found a new Bible written on golden plates while taking a walk in the woods.
