  • (Cedars' vlog no. 343) Jehovah's Witnesses are deeply proud of their beliefs, claiming them to be Bible-based. But are they internally consistent and in harmony with science? In this video, I list 10 clear contradictions in the religion's teachings.
    Timestamps:
    10 - 01:10 Christmas and piñatas
    09 - 06:52 Evolution and Noah's Ark
08 - 13:20 Anointed may be mentally imbalanced
07 - 16:02 God cannot lie but approves "theocratic warfare" & "new light"
    06 - 22:57 Miracles v. "Jehovah's hand"
    05 - 28:27 "Free will" v. threats of destruction
    04 - 32:15 Infant baptism v. child baptism

02 - 42:17 Shunning and the "prodigal son"
01 - 47:37 The blood prohibition, leukocytes, and Saul's men

I knew a 5 year old who was baptized as soon as he learned to read- even when I was fully indoctrinated I thought it was bizarre- he was a regular pioneer before he was in grade school...
You should’ve seen the householder’s faces when this lil baby was giving bible presentations at their doors. He was a clever kid, to be sure, but it made me very uncomfortable to be at a door, standing silently behind this little child preacher while the householder just stares at me like, “Is this for real?”
I always wonder how he is today- he’s an adult by now... I can’t imagine what his childhood could’ve been like.

Arthur, are you kidding me? Have you seen and heard how cold and loveless your "anointed" elders sound? These are the men that "Jehovah" has chosen. If there is a God like Jehovah who will only protect and give his guidence to the JWs because the go the the meeting and go door knocking (although technically we all know U don't want to do that, we all know y all secretly want the householder to not be home) how can a God like that just be like, yep the go to meetings, that will do... Fuck no dude. I was a jw and my whole family still is, and my. "worldly" friends show me so much more love than my own family who is wjs. And the funny thing is, I never got babtized, yet they see me as scum simply because I didn't follow them like a sheep. I'm glad though, because leaving the JWs has taught me what true love for family and friends is. I have and always will talk to my family and show them unconditional love. I will show my worldly friends unconditional love. Surprisingly the JWs DO NOT show unconditional love.... And your telling me God approves of that behaviour?? You my friend are incredibly delusional. All you people think is, oh, they have left the JWs, they are all now drug addicts and worship the devil. You make anyone who leaves seem like they are all Satan worshippers. We have free will. We have a right to have our own thoughts about your religion. And yet, we are the ones who show unconditional love. Honestly, if God truly is how you imagine it, I'd rather die. But I know in my heart, that God can see MY heart. He knows my thoughts, and he knows more than your elders, or anybody in your cult, he knows 100% in my heart what sort of a person I am.

I left the JW religion before I watched a single "apostate" video exactly because of such contradictions! Especially the things about evolution. I came to the same conclusions myself, it's like we think in the exact same way. Guess it's just the way any rational person would think.
And I didn't just leave in an instant, I tried to "save my faith" and discuss these matters with elders and friends, tried to find an answer, but to my surprise, they basically dismissed all of it. They were satisfied with absolutely unsatisfactory "explanations", everything basically boiled down to "goddidit": "oh, Jehovah just somehow made it possible with his holy spirit". It's like being in some kind of absurd theater, the problems are so obvious, yet no one seems to notice!

The elders just glared at me when I pointed this out from their Bible and declared I, was “unfit association” anyway.
This led to a rather intensive period of research into the religion where I found multiple examples of the org justifying all kinds of things just because they said so. I discovered in one fell swoop that they only use scriptures when it suits them and blatantly ignore scriptures that don’t support their BS.
Trying to discuss matters with elders or your JW family and friends is just impossible because of the Borg installed firewall that has in fact hijacked common sense and common decency.
I recently had an hour long discussion over the phone with a JW woman I knew decades ago
that was quite chilling. It was like trying to argue with “Dial a Prayer”, that one time thing you could access on the phone if you felt the need of spiritual encouragement.
Nothing I said penetrated the fog of spiritual warfare. I didn’t let it get to me because my whole idea was to see if this woman had progressed even an inch from the dogmatic minion she once was. Nope.
Yes it is infuriating, but my feeling now is have at it, arguing even politely just produces a plate of spaghetti where one strand leads to another one and it’s endless.

I know a 4 year old girl who already talks about getting baptised and has asked her parents. Thankfully they themselves are reluctant to have her baptised at such a young age and are making her wait. Although I doubt they will make her wait long. Maybe until she is 10-11 years old at most. But it still goes to show the level of brainwashing and indoctrination on witnesses and specifically young kids. A 4 year old would only want to get baptised if they have had it drilled into their heads from the get-go. It's all they know. And at that age, they don't actually 'know' what they are saying.

Thank you so much for your channel. I’m married to a JW I started to go to the meetings because at the beginning some of the stuff seemed to make sense. Then they told me I had to do field service. I said I didn’t want to. My brother-law told me he didn’t want to associate with me if I didn’t (which he later denied) when I asked why I had to do the field service, if it doesn’t say I have to in the Bible, my sister-law yelled at me and said,” because the ORGANIZATION says we gave to!”, she added I needed to do some research. I DID. I subscribed to your channel and watched your videos. When I confronted them with questions about some of your subjects they always had excuses and when I further pushed them they got very nasty. My brother and sister-in law no longer speak to me. When I bring up any question to my wife she gets all upset. I watched your recent video about the 10 contradictions and I confronted one of the elders with the Sauls army thing about the blood law and he said they didn’t violate the law. I also told him about the governing body paying their witness through law school, he said they don’t do that any more. Please give me one big, indisputable thing I can hit them with that will leave them speechless and they can’t comeback with any excuse and will really rattle them.

I came from Anglican and then Eastern Orthodox background and I have a theological degree, though I'm not now religious. My understanding of "free will" is somewhat different, though problem you discuss is still there. I would just call it something a little different. Free will, as I understand it, is that we are not made to be automatons, or puppets. We are *capable* of making independent choices and they are not pre-programmed.
This does not solve the problem of whether we are really given a legitimate choice when it comes to how we lead our lives. In the Orthodox understanding, hell is natural consequence of disconnecting oneself from God, more than it is a judicial punishment. While that understanding was far more appealing to me than others I had heard, it didn't occur to me that the natural consequences arises from a problem God himself created: the Fall. God planted the tree - and it was an "attractive nuisance" to use legalese. Of course a young (newly created, according to the story) person would be curious! You don't put something dangerous out where kids might get hurt by it just by exploring it. And of course, there's also the question of how Adam and Eve would know that disobeying God was bad before the Fall, is yet another question… for another day.

If they really want to be accurate, Christmas and birthdays and similar celebrations have their origins much further back in history than Christ. The actual original belief systems that spawned these celebrations are well and truly gone as active religions, so I guess all bets are off. Believing that the current diversity of species etc came from the severely limited number of propagating pairs on the boat (Noah's Ark) is patently ridiculous. They want to use the science differentiating species and kind yet will not admit to the mechanism of evolution being required to do what they say happened. Looking at the Governing Body as a representative of the anointed, it seems that mental or emotional instability is a prerequisite. These contradictions alone are enough to refute the veracity of the teachings of the Watchtower organization, yet there are many many more of them. After all, 10% wrong means 100% wrong.

Lloyd.... this is such a wonderful and respectful video. I love that you speak from love, logic , and compassion. I was always told about the prodigal son (hence the reason I am still shunned). But never really realized as you stated that his father did not even know the intent of his son but he ran to him out if genuine love. That meant so much to realize as I keep battling with myself on this. I have been free 6 years and overall happy but the shunning from my daughter and them convincing her to have never allowed my grandchildren to know me hurts like nothing else I have experienced. I am also a nurse and funny thing is I knew about the clostridium and WBC because we are taught about the immunity the infant receives from their mothers which has so much to do with breastfeeding but never correlated it with "abstaining from blood"
I for one being in healthcare never accepted nor supported that doctrine but of course kept that to myself. I also knew and cared for a few witnesses whom under diress and fear of death of them or their loved ones accepted blood.. I never held that against them nor judged because had it been me I would have chosen the same. I treated them with comfort and love while they had to make a decision they perceived as being against "their faith". Lastly, I was always asked to volunteer/ "work" for free at the first aid during conventions..... had I not went to a college and obtained a higher education who would they have?

Having fun with piñatas is called into question with Jehovah’s Witnesses? I really think they have an aversion to having any form of fun and enjoying their life. Experiencing happiness triggers the thought that it’ll somehow offend Jehovah. Such a cult mentality.

Can I just say that I love how long Lloyd's videos usually are? I am so tired of blowing through 20 minute videos. I want this sort of long, thorough info. I just really appreciate that all the videos are super fast little blips on the radar.

Rutherford just wanted to make his religion as different as possible, and knorr and Franz expanded it to establish their publishing empire. That's why the jws aren't allowed to accept normal stuff. It's literally a rebellion and it makes them feel good. And they'll get to live forever because of it. Ok everyone knows this but my family was jw and it still angers me to some extent.

I think many people become JW's because they are lonely and find that the friendship they get when attending meetings and invitations to others homes are a great attraction. I found that I went from a few friends to a large amount of people who seemed very interested in me. Many stay because of this friendship that they do not want to give up.

In the 90's I remember a young 11-year-old getting baptised. I remember my mum saying: "Oh she's too young, she's just a baby." They had her on the platform at a convention as an example as she was doing pioneer hours even before she was baptised and riding her bike to the groups if her parents couldn't get her there

With billions of lives on the line and mankind's ability to properly document them, Jehovah decides that really compelling evidence, such as visits from angels and miracles, are off limits. Is this the action of a God that truly desires everyone to be saved?
