I just LOVE these old B&W movies. You'll read this in the comments on every old film from the 30s through the 50s, but that's because it's so true: NOTHING coming out of hollywood today can begin to offer as much pure entertainment!

Second to Christ, the family is number one and making sure that family values are instilled that will hold out the ride through the tides of ups and downs: love and loyalty, respect for elders and siblings, self control over materialism, and team play to share the burdens equally until the problem is overcome. Being SELF- SERVING, and SELF PROMOTION are true family killjoys.

That's how he acquired the name Twain . He was a grand writer. Tom Sawyer ,Huckleberry Finn ,and so many other tales. I hate when I see a movie I like the father that works then comes home and goes to the lodge and all the kids grown up, but the movie begins to go south and you see two swindlers a new one Lodge member which he really isn't he's there trying to sell phony shares/ stocks that aren't worth anything just like the boyfriend that sees auras around her mom But I bet you the father's friend at the lodge got screwed and he doesn't even know it yet but thanks for the movie I enjoyed the beginning half

This movie indirectly focuses the grandfather as the hero.This character instead of guiding his grandchildren taunts them & try to make them understand that earning money by work is the only important thing in the world. This rude old man supports drinking, smoking & hates refined behaviour. The movie through the character of this uncultured, alcoholic & to some extent demonicly materialistic grandfather has opposed & insulted spirituality, performing arts & culturedness. Though the movie conveys few positive things too, in general encourages hollow, stupid & evil philosophy. A movie is like a book and a bad book can harm the society deeply. Unfortunately, many of the movies instead of effecting as a nice book rather affects as a cheap circus. A beam of light in darkness, there are few high-grade movies too, one of the brightest example is A Christmas Carroll.
Why? The hero of that book was a drunken playboy materialistic ghost and won't even talk about Charles Dickens.Did you know that 2 decades after this movie was made Coca-cola had its name because the main ingredient was cocaine? And Mark Twain would be very unrefined to you, Right? People who work to earn their money are so 'uncultured' and 'unrefined', right? And, by the way, the brain grows from back to front and the frontal cortex which contains impulse control, most short-term memory, morals, amd executive decision making is not present until age 26. So, grampa's method of taunting them is what works for people without a frontal cortex. As for tobacco, it is the first intelligence drug and is the main ingredient is high dollar dementia drugs like Namenda-the tobacco stops the shrinking of the brain and binds together the enzymes that travel from the stomach and mutate in the bloodstream and start 'eating the brain'-tobacco stops it. If you visit a mental institution you will see people chain smoking as it relieves the symptoms of biologically-based mental illness. Yes, smoke is bad for you but I don't believe the cigar smoke was as bad as the smoke and destruction caused by bombs and such that were happening in world war II when this movie was filmed. In fact, those who were not fighting the war were working their assess off to provide for their families while waiting for their allotment and I imagine those serving in world war II would have prefered to have jobs rather than being blown to bits. Grampa is materialistic? Don't think so and I imagine this movie would have been an escape for those who saw it in WW II-but then, people then were not as 'refined' as you are. By the way, what did the soldiers get to dull the pain when they were injured and had surgeries? If you guessed alcohol you would be correct.
