- Off Road Test with the 2016-2018 Mercedes Benz G Class G500 with powerful 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine.
The 8-cylinder powerplant in the G500 can point to an exclusive heritage. It is based on the new generation of V8 engines developed by Mercedes AMG that have already coaxed exceptional levels of performance out of the Mercedes AMG GT and Mercedes AMG C 63. For use in theMercedes Benz G Class, the V8 has been modified to deliver 422 horsepower (310 kW) with torque of 610 Nm. Other standout attributes include a spontaneous response and high tractive power
made possible, for example, by two turbochargers, which instead of being configured on the outside of the cylinder banks, are arranged between them in the V - the so-called "hot inside V". This layout allows a compact design, optimal response and low exhaust emissions.

Sadly most of these legendary off roaders will probably never see even a lick of dirt. If I had a G-Class, I'd probably transform it in to an overland rig or like a bug out vehicle or something and take it off roading every weekend.
It's so mesmerising to watch it go off road...

Alot of people hating on this car because its not as good as a tricked out rock crawler jeep. Come on guys its just a factory off road suv from MB, they arent expecting people to go climbing up steep ass rocks and shit with an expensive suv. Although if i had the money id use it off road but i would not try to climb a rock steep enough to possibly make me flip back on my g wagon 😖

Is the G500 only available in Europe? Don't see it mentioned on the Canadian Benz website.
How does it differ from the G63 and G65...just in engine size? Seems to me the G500 is "enough G-wagon SUV" for most people for day to day use (e.g. grocery, shopping, taking kids to hockey practice...etc.). Does it not have the same suspension and chassis of the other two?
