I'd buy it tomorrow if I could use 2 FX at a time. The single is way too limiting for the price, and for not much more you can get a Stomp used, if not new, and get all the amps and cab, IR loading, re-amping, etc etc too. Cool idea, but I need to make my money go as far as possible. Thanks for the awesome review! It does sound great.
If there was one thing I could wish for such a pedal, it would be a digitally controlled analog dry through path for time and modeling effects (as the strymon timeline and big sky have). Though it probably would drive up the price by at least 100 euro and might require a slightly larger housing. This size pedal is attractive to the purists that still use real pedal boards. And dry-wet rigs. And those are the kind of people that care about the zero latency of analog dry through pedals.
You did a real nice Job here so I subscribed. I did go out and buy one of these. Way easier to watch you fiddle with it than figuring it out hands on. Thanks for your efforts here; sure helps.
This pedal is one "block/item" for $300. The HX Stomp is eight "blocks/items" for $700. This pedal has effects. The Stomp has effects, amps, cabinets, and IR files. Obviously the two products are aimed at different audiences, but boy is $300 a lot of money for one block instead of eight, and no amp/'cab sims. And then there's the HX Effects and the Pod Go to consider. As long as people understand exactly what all the options are, the One will fit some use cases. I still like the fact that Line 6 made it, though. For some, this pedal will be the perfect solution.
True. I've tested both the One and the Stomp XL but as a bassplayer I really liked the One more as it's fun and simple. The price is justified for rare occasions. The stomp XL can indeed do a lot more and the price is also solid however €700 for multi fx on bass that I won't always use is a lot. I wish I could access all the synths in the One. I've missed that by going through the presets 😕
I would have thought that the R&D for this would be basically nothing. The software was already substantially built out. The hardware is just shrinking an already existing product where you don’t have to miniaturize anything. They should be able to sell this for $150 at high margins. And at $150, this would be incredible
@@jloiben12 At $150 they couldn't build them fast enough. I wonder if they're using the same CPU as in the Pod Go, or if they had to use a different one. That would require some R&D.
It would be nice if it was a little bit cheaper (or if it would have 2 blocks ;)). But i think the possible target market may still be decent. There are still many players that prefer using a nice amp with reverb tank, and only need one ‘post pre-amp’ effect for variation, such as a delay or modulation (but for now, i probably would still go for a $100 used M5 in that case ;))
Thanks for the demo of the HX One. Pretty cool pedal with a looper and tuner included. Can’t afford anymore pedals right now but I can still enjoy the video which I did. You deserve way more subscribers, this is one of the best channels on RUclips for guitar gear. Thanks for keeping it real, and fun! ✌🏻
The Helix has a favourite folder for amps and effects with your favourite settings. I'm pretty sure Line6 will implement it on the HX One. That 15 year old album sounded phenomenal! How long it will take for Line6 to release an HX Amp? That hx one format with the Helix Amps and Cabs/IRs to compete with the UAFX amps, Iridiums, ACS1, etc I think they would sell a lot of those and i'm sure this unit is capable of that. Pretty sure they're just working on the UI and UX right now.
I had an M13 as well and to be honest I'm still using most of the Legacy effects in my Helix! Dimension chorus for cleans and Line 6 drive + 808 screamer! Simple delay and Ping Pong delay from the Legacy effects rock.
I’m intrigued by this. I have a need for something like this that could either be a Wah or a compressor The only thing that bums me out is that it doesn’t generate midi messages - if it did that I’d pick one up As is it’s so close to what I need but falls just a bit short
I have an HX Stomp & just ordered one of these. I also have the two extra buttons for the Stomp & a four button midi controller. I’d love to see this used with a Stomp & what options could be set up with both. I didn’t think it’s too high priced for having over 250 effects loaded into it. I do feel like at least a couple of extra buttons could have been added but that’s easily remedied by just adding another two button pedal for around $20-ish.
Fantasticly indepth review! My attention span for the whole raft of mini multifx type pedals taken from a more expensive big brother is now borderline the same as "Oh look, a new Klon Clone" or "Oh look, a new drive pedal"... I could probably do a video a day for the next 5 years of every damn drive pedal currently on the market, forgetting the next new "big thing" that appears tomorrow!
Great video, as usual, Henning, thanks. I have a TC-Electronic G-Force from around 25 years ago. Works great, does everything well except distortion & speaker emulation, which it has as an extra emergency thing i guess. I still haven't heard a unit that makes me want to replace it. Plus it has 8 engines : 8 simultaneous algos, can be 4 on each side for example, or 8 in stereo, so i actually have a potent dual mono multi-fx i can use for recording with my 24 track. And it barely costs more than this single effect. It'll be a while before these manufacturers see my money.
Ca you use looper mode while simultaneously using an effect - say, like a low octave? Just curious if I can use this to loop bass lines, or if cam only loop without other onboard effects playing. Thanks!
Great video !! These multi-effects/amp emulators seem to come out weekly at $300 -$1k+. How about starting a running list and rank them based for tone and utility?
Wish they would also add an lfo that we could use as controllers. Just so i can use the ADT as a flanger 😂. I know its a long shot, but i would love an HX4, that has no screens. Kinda like the old md4 dl4 etc.
You should make a video showing if or how this could be useful if used into the pod go efx loop was wondering if it would help with the cpu being used up in the pod go
But you can take any of the built in presets, modify them if you like, and then save them as your own preset, right? Doesn't that do the same thing as a Favorite list?
Record a full album with one box is a big plus point, also for learning.❤ The Favourites you advocate surely is going to happen anytime soon - Line6 has a great reputation with updates.🎉

That's great product, BUT i would prefer a "mini" Helix in a pedal, with a small but great selection of guitar amps and effects, helix quality, for around 300 bucks. It would be great. I don't need 100 effects (in fact most of guitarist uses just a bunch) but i need great amp sims/effect all in one.
Lots of choices, but you can only have a single one at a time. Not sure I'd even look at one at that price. If it had been a mini HX effects with 3-4 at once, it would sell like hotcakes. At $400CAD, can any single HX1 effect compete with slightly boutique pedals at that pricepoint? Not really.
It would be useful with a Boss ES5 switcher, it can change order of effects. It could be any where in the chain and switched to any of it's model programs by MIDI. But no thanks.
It's interesting that you mention Eventide with reverence as if they're the apex of effects. From my experience, in my opinion, they are very far from it. I've owned Eventide "-Factor" pedals and found them all to sound harsh and unpleasant. I owned 3 in succession, eBay-ed all of them. I feel about effects processors the same way that I do about stereo components: No one company makes the best of all components. You buy speakers from a speaker company, turntable from a turntable company, integrated amp from an amplifier company (or even preamp and power amp from "best-of" in each category). Likewise, I buy overdrives from one maker, amp modelers from another (mine is currently a ToneX), delay and reverb from two other companies (in my case TC Electronic and Source Audio respectively). I'm not much for the Line6 / Strymon model of virtual knobs, where from patch 1 to patch 2 the same knob has a completely different function. That's way too confusing when you're onstage. Just my 2 cents - or maybe 200 dollars, for having commented so much ! I really do love your videos. I mostly appreciate your blunt, honest opinions.
Is it true that you can’t save the effects on bypass? Every time I try, the effect goes back to ON when saving. I contacted Line6 and an agent said it’s not possible. So if I’m using the pedal live with an external midi switcher like I do with the M5, and I start scrolling, the effects engage automatically and will sound. That makes impossible to scrolling in a live situation. And makes this a toy and not a pro tool. Line6 missed a big one here, I hope they make an update soon and include all the things that the M5 does already, like being able to save the presets in bypass. The tuner doesn’t work on true bypass neither. I’m really disappointed with this thing so far! Please hurry up with that firmware update so we can feel we gave you $ for something useful!
