    When the HX One was first announced, I was of the opinion that $299 was a crazy price for one effect at a time. My frame of reference was that I have an HX Stomp that allows 8 blocks in the signal chain, has amps and cabs, etc. But then, I looked at my workflow, and realized that having a dedicated effect pedal in the loop of my HX Stomp would accomplish 3 things for me. (1) it conserves DSP in the HX Stomp, (2) allows me to use effects that would never work in the Stomp because they are too DSP hungry (like the feedbacker), and (3) allow me to work with fewer presets in my HX Stomp (don't need a Vox+Chorus, Vox+12 String, Vox+Trem - just need Vox, and I can change the effect on the HX One). With those benefits in mind, I happily spent the $299, and it has really worked out great for my needs.

    Great product I must say. I picked one up second hand for € 205. It's like a low budget eventide h9. Works great after my Tonex one, and in front of my Strymon Dig and Cloud.
    Too bad it doesn't include full midi send capabilities, then it would have been stellar.

      That's what I have found. I was so surprised about that I double checked but yeah, as far as I know, (1) effect at a time. Canceled my order just in time. Can't figure out in this day and age and for that price why they would do that 😖

    My core sound involves 3 pedals however occasionally you want or need something for a certain song, inspiration, fun, etc.. I don't like have a pedal on my board that I only turn on 2-3 times a show because its wasted real estate. This pedal scratches where I itch! Are all the effects the best in each category? of course not but once you are playing with a band and not isolating your tone it won't matter.

    This is super useful if you want a pedal that can sub in at any position on your board but don’t want to use up two power supply taps and a lot of board space like the Stomp does. Say as your multi-modulation pedal or as your reverb (the reverbs are HX’s sleeper effect). Traditional pedal board players will understand its appeal even if the modeling crowd doesn’t.

    It’s a useful pedal. People that want a utility pedal will love it, but 1 effect at a time is limited. It should be cheaper. Guarantee Mooer & joyo will make a better version that’s prob the same price or cheaper.

    personally i love this “wildcard” pedal idea. which is why i bought the beautifully designed and killer sounding Hotone Xtomp pedal when it came out. bluetooth control etc. looks like a Mac product. built like a brushed metal tank.
    anyhow nobody who loves, follows and tries to emulate Corey and his rootsy, blues,jazz,rock,country playing needs more than a few sounds on tap at any given time- it aint shoegaze.
    anyhow, I think the XTOMP is discontinued. Mine works great. It’s been on my board for years and I love that it’s my wildcard sound and for me everything in it sounds plenty Damn good enough it even has anp sims which I never use. They’re probably not great. personally, I think it’s 10 times cooler than this pedal but it does not have a display you have to change parameters using Bluetooth via your iPhone but either way I applaud Line 6 for making these petals. If my xtomp fails me I might consider getting the line 6 copy of it. lol.. i’m sure they would’ve come out with the sooner, but Hon probably had like a four-year exclusive pattern or thing!
    I wish it was a smaller footprint. The xtomp is smaller. but again no screen.

    It will not "save you thousands". It will save you $300.00 at best because HX Stomp can do all this thing can do times 8 for $300.00 more. If you needed only one effect from the HX Stomp at a time, you could get this pedal and save $300.00 . But as soon as you would like to have delay and chorus and maybe some reverb, the savings are not there anymore.

    No it doesnt. overpaying for simple dsp effectpedals hurts us all. this should cost 100-200 max. for the same money as the one you can get a used hx stomp for 300. if your a "simpleton" guitarist its easy to setup as just 3 stompboxes. learn tech and effects and midi on the way. the m5 is still beeing sold for 149 NEW here in germany. THAT IS HILLARIOUS'!' it came out in 2011. i got mine for 30 used. its a great tool. good enough for trey anastasio who can afford playing trainwreck amps....30 bucks THAT makes sense. guess line6 keeps im5 around so we are more inclined to drop 319 for this dumb HX one. prices have to come down for dsp based pedals. its madness. gott a used macbook air m1 for 400, running neural dsp plugins with gapless switching, blackhole reverb etc.etc..not so roadworthy unfortunateley. runs 10+ hrs on battery. beat that quad cortex, line6 eventide strymon... maybe the guitar market consists mainly out of lawyers... and they left midi out from the new pod, making its timebased fx useless in a midi synced setup... sadsad.

Try 12 for the octaves. :) Just got this, trying to figure out the flux and have been able to learn to MIDI program it to work with my MC6 and not scroll around, can switch to different things in an instant. Still a work in progress but if anyone needs some help. I see a lot of uses for this thing.👍
    Also...One gripe with the Librarian app for it is you cannot change the names there. You have to do it by scrolling around on the unit itself, would be much easier by typing a preset name on the computer instead.

  • @robertj1303

    In designing best sound systems my belief is you have to separate wet FX from dry units. Which would mean having at least two. If you do there are a plethora of wet multifX as some of the comments mention such as ToneX. TC p 2290. This also doesnt have line to front of house, so it is connectivity is more like a stereo pedal without separate wet and dry routing. So does it stand up as a multi wet fx vs the competition, I dont think so, does it stand up against specific or multifx dry again this may be ok. Is this like a less functional Boss ME90 or Nux or Mooer substitutes probably not. I remember Fractal having an FX which didnt sell well either. As others have said for $300 will it be worth if vs say a Katana.

  • @scottbecker3485
    @scottbecker3485 9 месяцев назад

    I admit leaving the video just before the 10-minute mark (it being far too long for me to want to absorb), so take my remarks with a grain of salt. But I had been hoping something more convincing might be shared up front. Diving into the Flux control and the manual isn‘t telling me anything new. My biggest reason for not being interested in this pedal is that some of the effects it offers (modulation, vibrato, etc.) need to be in front of an amp/cab sim in one‘s chain, while others (time-based effects like delay and reverb) really do best when placed after an amp/cab sim pedal. So that means I‘d need two of the featured pedals, and that‘s too expensive. If this pedal were about half the price, I‘d consider buying two and having one ahead of and one behind my amp/cab sim.

I had heard something about using the send and return to have the flexibility to place effects before or after the drives on your board. And that it could be dictated per preset. Example: pitch effects before external drives, mods and delays after. Do you know if this is accurate? You may have said so and I missed it?

  • @matteomidas638

    I think the exact opposite. This pedal has no reason to exist. The Hx Stomp is more expensive but can have 8 blocks to choose from in the same preset. There's no story. This "small brother" can load one block and recall two set up of the same block. C'mon I wouldn't call this versatility.

    • @tayk71

    • @CentaurusRelax314
      @CentaurusRelax314 9 месяцев назад +24

      It has as many reasons to exist as an industry standard Eventide H9. You said it yourself-an HX Stomp is more expensive. It’s also larger, no? So, for someone like me, without much space on a board, who also can’t justify spending HX money because of how that cost relates to the rest of my setup… and who doesn’t want multiple blocks in one preset because I already have a full pedalboard… why doesn’t this make sense? It’s a simple utility. If I need a flanger or a phaser or a vibrato or a whatsihoosit for one little thing or want to mess around with one particular song but don’t want to buy a dedicated pedal for it… Boom goes the dynamite.

    • @CentaurusRelax314
      @CentaurusRelax314 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@tayk71How is it “going backward” if it doesn’t *replace* something with more features? It’s an *addition* to the product line. Isn’t more choice a _good_ thing?

    • @matteomidas638
      @matteomidas638 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@CentaurusRelax314 I do not agree with you. The H9 is a good pedal but like the Hx One is limited. In every pedalboard you can see people using 2 H9 at the same time. Eventide these days has launched the H90 to give players more options. No one in 2023 wants a digital pedal that can do 1 thing at time. That's it.

    • @CentaurusRelax314
      @CentaurusRelax314 9 месяцев назад +13

      @@matteomidas638 The problem with both of your posts and your perspective in general is that you insist on making sweeping generalizations and applying them to other people. It’s simply not truth/fact: that this pedal has no reason to exist-I already described my personal use case, which nullifies yours. It’s not true that “every pedalboard” with an H9 has a second H9. That’s absolutely ridiculous. A small percentage do, and you’re probably reacting to just those boards of people famous/wealthy/productive enough to afford that ‘luxury,’ which, again, is a small percentage. And again, saying that *”no one in 2023”* wants a single-effect digital pedal is just utter nonsense. Line 6 didn’t make this randomly. You’re also ignoring all the other single-purpose pedals that happen to be digital, but I’ll ignore that lapse in logic, as you will no doubt counter that you meant to reference ‘digital multi-effects.’ Either way, it’s irrelevant. Just qualifying the pedal as being “limited” is a personal bias. It’s not “limited.” It does 250 things. Many people only want something like this to fill unfulfilled spots on a board that already has the other ‘staple’ effects, like me, as I described. I have a 28 x 15” board, and it has every effect I could need on a typical basis. Where this comes in handy is for the oddball effects that I don’t want to spend for, just to have it sitting around unused 98% of the time. Not sure why you’re not understanding that not every player needs or wants to have a chain of effects in one box. Or that not everyone wants to deal with creating or editing a digital chain of effects blocks. One thing at a time makes a lot of sense to a lot of people. The same people for whom the h9 made sense and still does. I have an H9 and did not dump it just because I could have an H90. The h9 is already plenty complex for my needs and does what I need-one thing at a time.
