Very nice for shade and some wind with side curtains. But problem I see with all of these bat wing style awnings is the lack of rain protection at the rear top area allowing rain to come down onto your rear vehicle cooking area. Would have come up with a additional tarp to cover this gap for rain events.
In December, I added the 4K 270 awning along with the shower stall after this review, and am very satisfied with the products. One of the things that put me off a bit on one review I saw was the weld quality at the joints. The weld quality on mine was ok, but not a thing of beauty. That being said, I opted for this awning specifically because it had all aluminum knuckles, and no plastic. I figured if it was ever damaged, I could always re-weld or re-fab the part on my own, instead of waiting for a replacement plastic part from a supplier that may or may not have gone out of business by then. For the price, it beats anything else that I could find. Recently, I added a couple of walls for it, for additional shade or wind protection.

Reasons for mounting awning on the passenger side: 1) It's the side away from the road in the US, opposite of right hand drive countries 2) RVers usually park facing east, so awning is facing south and west keeping interior cooler over the course of the day 3) Allows shelter/shower to be placed on driver side as shown.

i purchased this awing the 4K 270 for my 2017 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner and once installed with the companies standard brackets buyer be aware "you CAN NOT OPEN" the rear hatch door of a 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner. You will notice there is NO 5th Gen 4-Runner pictures with the rear hatch door lifted open on there site. If you don't ask about this they aren't telling you. I found out after it was delivered and installed. I looked for a solution to mounting and after a lot of research realized it was the wrong awing for my 4-Runner. I ordered it in April/May of 2021 and didn't receive it until the end of September 2021 (that was 4 to 5 months waiting for delivery) . I tried installing it in late September 2021 and realized the back door would not open. I called the company surprised that the rear door was not accessible and was told it should fit just raise the awing up to clear the rear hatch. I ask about some different mounting brackets and was told they only provide the standard bracket that shipped with the awing. It's now October/November and winter is setting in here in Idaho so I removed it last winter left it in the garage waiting for this summer to further research my options to mount it and be able to use the 4-Runner's rear door.

We have the Alucab RTT/270/shower tent. The thing that I use all the time is the awning (we live in Havasu, sun is brutal), but we just went on a Death Valley excursion and my wife just loved the Shower Tent. I'm not saying ours is better, just if you have a wife or gal who really doesn't like the idea of having to pee or change clothes without privacy? This thing is huge, my wife was so happy to have it, just huge, it completely made her comfortable.
This is what I want for my overland trailer been waiting for this to come out.

It used to take years for Southern Hemisphere 4x4 product designs to make it into the US. I'm stoked to see it happening so fast now days.

Perfect timing, I’m about to buy an awning. I’ve had an Alu-cab Shadow Awn ($1500), a Rhinorack Batwing ($700) and the old ARB awning ($375). Let’s be clear that all THREE of these awnings snapped in the wind and ALL awnings need to be tied down at the beach or along cliffs. The Alu-cab was too costly, the Batwing needed two people to setup and the ARB only gave a tiny piece of shade that was gone in a couple hours. This awning looks perfect in size and in price.

observation: Spray some Scotch 3m spray for extray UV and weather prevention? I sprayed my Polaris RZR seats at new and it works.

@@bigbluehorse5480 No roof rack. I mounted it on the factory roof bars. I used carriage bolts that slip into the slots and attach to the included mounts.
I bought the OVS. Same price but has another arm that swing to the front for more coverage area. I wonder if they are made in same place? Brackets and everything looks identical. Looks like a great product. Another great vid making these products known to everyone.
Overland Pros has the 6 arm version as well. Its the Waptor 6k.

Overland Pros also makes the awning to open on the drivers side if you have a RTT that opens to the passenger side like I do. I was about to ask, but just checked the website.
I got the one opening driver side . Check my page I made a video about it.
Very nice! I have been looking at the Overalnd Pro awnings for a little bit now. Just haven't pulled the trigger as I dont really have a proper rack on my 100 series. Seeing as they are based in my old stomping grounds, I know that I will eventually get one.

I have a 1st Gen Crosstrek with Go rhino roof rack and cross bars. I want to do this with a shower for the dogs and such but I'm afraid that my system is too weak.
I don’t get why they don’t design them so the bag opens from the top and you work with gravity to put it away.

Gday from the land down under. Would be good to see how it handles rain. Also I'd like to see a free standing awning. If you're camping and need to quickly take some one to the toilet or go and get some fire wood. Its a pain to always have to pack the awning up if you want to use your 4WD.

Why do most people put their awnings on the passenger side not driver . Aswell for like a Teardrop trailer the door
You know - for me, I've had it on both, and really did not like it on the driver side. I think the reason being - the driver side is a utility side for me - I'm always going in and out of the drivers side. I don't want chairs and tables or other things in my way.

Great product overview. I was really interested in it until I noticed that it doesn't cover the front right passenger area. The add on holder organizer is really neat and there isn't really anything else on the market I've seen that competes with it. It will definitely add a lot of value when you settle down and need space to put a few things
Alternatively, there is OVS awnings that do cover the front.
The 6K version of this awning covers the front. This is the 4K, without the extension that covers past the front doors.

I have seen those. Material is not as good with a similar price. The Overland Pros Awning use rip-stop Nylon, not poly.

Hey Michael, is this the Wraptor 6K or 4K 270 degree Awning? I also have an FZJ80 and was curious as to how much coverage behind the rear of the vehicle does it provide, and is your rear door prohibited from opening completely because of the awning bars crossing overhead?
Hi Alex! This is the 4K and it fits fine - even with the hatch open. I will say that Nick at Overland Pros prefers the 6K - personally - I like the form factor of the 4K.
It’s a great looking awning, but I’ll have to stick with the Kinsmen 270 awning.
Yup - Starting at 2,150.00 that's a different market for sure. I just don't think this can be beat at $799. I have no issue with the quality either its a very good unit.
I fully agree for the market, the price is a shoe in, and while I support the Team @OB1 I have to stay loyal to the young mom and pop shop out of SC.

Does the hatch hit the awning?
Depends on how high you install the brackets. I have an LR3 and I the guys at Scully Offroad quickly fabbed an adapter plate to get the height I need to clear my top hatch. I had another option to install the brackets higher, but this was just as easy
How to install this on roofnest falcon tent?
Went to buy one but they are sold out. Sent a few messages trying to reach them with no luck. Any other brands you recommend ?

Thanks for a nice video. Curious, do you wish the awning bag was a tad larger for ease of closing up? I know it's brand new so things are a little snug but I don't see it getting much easier with time. Thoughts?
If you fold it the right way, it's not quite a struggle.

Any stable mount - though I have videos for picking the right roof rack as well. If the roof rack is weak - the mount will be weak. It should work fin on any reasonably strong overland rack.
@@jasonw820 Yes, some fiberglass toppers are made stronger than others though. If it is an industrial one, you could mount it just about any way you want. The best way would be to mount it to a rack that's mounted on the top.
