  • This is how the Big Ten, SEC & Big 12 will split the ACC according to Grayson Grundhoefer on Crystal Ball CFB. UNC and Virginia look perfect for the Big Ten while Clemson and Florida State are shoo-ins for the SEC. Who might the Big 12 take out of Duke, Louisville, Pitt and the others?

      I completely agree with your choices. There's no way three Florida schools wind up in the SEC, and Georgia Tech is the east coast equivalent of Cal -- drastically undervalued, perfect for the B1G. NCSU and VT are better cultural fits for the SEC, but if it says no, nobody goes anywhere. State politics in both Virginia and North Carolina will demand that State and Tech get similar athletic funding to UNC and UVa, who will prefer the Big Ten. Syracuse may be a bit of a surprise, but Yormark salivates over 30,000+ SU basketball crowds at the dome. I also agree Wake and Duke are left out of this game of conference musical chairs.

      @@VincentPaterno-hs2fv Yeah with Miami having AAU status, and even if it didn't, the SEC has a maximum of 2 per state and they've favored FSU over Miami since day one. I think the 4 schools going to the XII are really the best you could expect after the top 8 teams have left. I don't see any place else for WF and BC besides the American or Sunbelt. Yormark's basketball angle is absolute genius as far as I'm concerned because you can't have a true national championship without most of the existing and rumored schools.

    As a West Virginia fan you have to take pit first no matter what. Then if Miami is available and doesn't go to the SEC take them. A couple of these ACC schools blocked West Virginia from going to the ACC and was some bitter comments made about WVU fans and academics and I think it was Boston college and Duke so West Virginia may try to return the favor. But Virginia tech and Louisville would also be a great fit for the Big 12. Would not count out Notre Dame because the Big ten and SEC may want them to become full members and they may not want to so they may join the Big 12 with exceptions. But the big 12 should definitely pass on the pac-12 teams for now.

    For a team to change conferences - they would have to increase the media rights deal of the conference they are moving into. That means - move it enough to increase the per team share of the existing members. This becomes increasingly challenging as the number of teams in conferences has increased. The real issue is how much ESPN has control in this.

    Considering political, cultural, and academic ties this is how I see B10/SEC in the long run.
    FSU & Miami go together to the B10. After that the SEC get back into the expansion pool. After that this is how I see it shaking out:
    B10: FSU, MIA, UVA, VT, GT, Pitt
    SEC: UNC,NCST, Duke, CLEM, OKST, TCU, Baylor, Louisville
    Per legislation the NC and VT schools respectively have to go together. Both sides draw each. Duke, TCU, and Baylor go to the SEC with religious ties appealing to the Bible Belt. The B10 gets into metro markets of Miami, Atlanta, & Pittsburgh with adding those three schools.

      Totally agree with you. The stupidity of realignment will set in motion the schools that can spend the money for players that will demand a lot of money through NIL. Texas being admitted to the SEC was a no brainer. I give it 10 years, hypothetically, SEC headquarters will be located in Austin, Texas. I understand a bit why Nick Saban is not a fan of NIL. Now for Saban haters that may reply, hear me out. I completely understand that Alabama spends an enormous amount of their money on football and coach Saban earns a huge annual paycheck. What I'm stating is that a program such as Texas can potentially swallow up the competition based on how much money they can compensate a lot of recruits signing to commit to Texas. This is why coach Nick Saban had a gripe with hc Jimbo Fisher. Of course, Texas A&M is nowhere near as great as a college football program as Alabama. However, institution wise, Texas A&M had much more resources through their endowment power than Alabama. If you look at Texas, they even make Texas A&M look like a step child which was why Texas A&M transferred from the Big 12 to the SEC. I feel the conference expansions of the BIG10 and SEC will do more damage than good long term. The greed has messed with a bunch of collective heads. And here we are. NFL scouts in turn will do everything to seek talent from players from other so-called inferior college football programs. The amount of money these NIL players will demand from NFL franchises once they are selected in the 1st round will be through the roof. The NFL as always will adjust.

      @@romanmoronie what would be best for the school under that scenario would be the B1G, which has a massive academic alliance. Multiple B1G schools apply for grants and do research together on far flung campuses.
      As one example, the NJ Cancer Center is a research arm of Rutgers. It is one of the top cancer research facilities in the country. They have been doing cutting edge cancer research with about five other B1G schools. This allows them to do things that would likely be impossible for one facility.
      Students at B1G schools can take classes at any other school, if their campus does not offer something, etc., etc.

    To be honest, I think if Notre Dame is forced to join a conference, I think they would try to get into the SEC rather than the B1G. Notre Dame has rejected offers to join the B1G on multiple occasions, I think they go in a different direction and try to get into the SEC.

    • @matthewsmith2241
      @matthewsmith2241 11 месяцев назад

      Would Notre Dame sacrifice in giving up their long standing football home games contrct with NBC to join the SEC full time? Would SEC let Notre Dame keep home game contract w/ NBC? That's probably main reason why Irish didn't originally join B1G 30+ years ago before Penn State joined when B1G was researching in possible expansion. Notre Dame has affiliation with ACC in all sports but football, but will televise Irish road games on ESPN due to tv contact w/ACC for about another 10 or so years with affiliation. Plus in terms of men's hockey, B1G IS ONLY Power 5 Conference that has Men's Hockey and Notre Dame is part of that. No other Power 5 has a Men's Hockey Conference. I know it's not that big $$$, but that's fact. Boston College think is only other ACC school & Power 5 school outside the B1G Conference that has college hockey to my knowledge.
      Back to football side, ESPN didn't renew tv with B1G as Fox, CBS and NBC outbid for think new 8 or so year deal starting as early as this upcoming football season and w/ addition to USC & UCLA in B1G to gain LA market that's huge.
      Furthermore, how would scheduling impact long standing USC-Notre Dame rivalry? Would SEC still adbide by that in negotiations and if for some weird reason not expand to 9 conference games probably starting in 2024 from current 8 w/ Texas & Oklahoma added, which started the domino effect? Like past years for last decade or so, Irish will have at least 1 night home game on NBC. This coming season it's versus Ohio State in addition to regular contract with home games (around 2:30pm eastern start time on tv from memory). So at worse case scenario until Irish affiliation with ACC and home game w/ NBC expires, Notre Dame could have at least 1 home night game with a B1G team/year, especially if it's rival USC every other year, pending on which team it is and scheduling. Furthermore, CBS televise B1G Men's Basketball and Conference Semifinal/Final right before Selection Sunday during Basketball season. Between grabbing 3:30 football spot that SEC had (which think I heard somewhere, unless mistaken, that SEC decline renewing contract with CBS before new B1G contract) and negotiating w/ NBC for primetime Saturday night, the B1G arguably made offer that got Notre Dame on notice and pending on how these next 8 or so years go on new B1G contract, maybe gave Irish some intersting decisions in thinking it maybe beneficial to join B1G in order to negotiate w/ NBC (along with CBS & Fox) and conference to expand television agreement in future years.

      @@matthewsmith2241 obviously Notre Dame has the best of both worlds with it's current affiliation with the ACC and being a football independent. They aren't looking to make any kind of change until something happens to the ACC. Even if it does, I think they will still keep their independence until they don't have access to the playoffs. Being shut out of the playoffs would be the only thing I can think of that would force Notre Dame to join a conference.

    • @matthewsmith2241
      @matthewsmith2241 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Patrick-sg7cm agree on idea if Notre Dame is left out of playoffs and currently have best of both worlds. The question is how often will that happen here within the next 8-10 years? May not be often but depends on strength of schedule and talent during time, etc unless otherwise. As for possible rumors ACC implosion with at least 7 teams in mix, we shall wait and see. FSU and Clemson heard were main teams to ask more $$, which think ACC flexible to do, but did other schools especially ones in the mix to leave ACC want to be left behind? From recollection, think Notre Dame wasn't mentioned in the "Magnificent 7" teams in possibly leaving ACC so it could be somewhat a disadvantage to Irish if they're left out longer they go. In addition, unless figures/calculation are way off, Notre Dame get somewhat of maybe $50 million for a home games on NBC/year or some outrageous number alone for each home game/season; arguably about same or more compared to current SEC tv contract. New B1G contract from recollection is ~$1 billion/year for conference in next 8 years. Hence, $$ and igos are going to play roles in negotiations no matter what happens.

While I personally would love the level of competition (we might actually be competitive in the middle of the pack) I just really don't think there would be any interest from the Big 10. Not unless we became an AAU school and a few other things. Culturally we might fit in better with the SEC or maybe the Big 12 (considering they have Baylor, TCU, and BYU now).

    Excellent video, but let me tell you who I think the Big 3 Conferences should choose to invite if the ACC implodes, and why:
    SEC: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Miami
    Big Ten: Duke, North Carolina, Virginia, Notre Dame
    Big 12: Louisville, NC State, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh
    Georgia Tech is too firmly entrenched in SEC country to NOT go to the SEC. Plus, the Yellowjackets will have a natural rivalry with the Georgia Bulldogs. Meanwhile...Duke, Virginia, North Carolina & Notre Dame are all great academic schools, and the Big Ten has always prized academics. And as for the Big 12...Louisville, Virginia Tech & Pittsburgh all make perfect sense for the Big 12. I think the 4th spot could go to either NC State or Boston College. But I chose NC State simply because that school's a slightly better fit, at least in my eye.

    I think the Big 10 will get: Virginia and Duke (AAU and Basketball Blueblood, which they have not had since the fall of Indiana), as well as convince Notre Dame that they want more than salvation?. The SEC will get UNC, Florida State, Clemson, and Miami. The Big 12 may pick up Louisville, Pitt (for WVU and Cincy), and Georgia Tech (for UCF). Syracuse (for UConn), and BC. NC State may be too small for the SEC. They, too, are at 16. But, they may opt for VTU and NC State. After all, they took Missouri. And they are not as bright as the Big 10.
    We can disagree with Georgia Tech but consider this. The Big 10 has not said a single word about them since 2019 (the last year they discussed adding Kansas). That is not their pattern, nor is the Big 10 really additional crazy right now since the departure of Kevin Warren. They know that over a specific number, chances are they run the risk of dilution. They also know to keep USC/UCLA happy, they have to get co-travelers to come in for them. They are already at 16 members. Wouldn't Stanford, Cal, Washington, Oregon or ASU make much more sense than going after Georgia Tech? I also see no interest in GTI from the SEC. If they wanted them, they would have had them.

      @@vernonsheldon-witter1225 I don’t either but was a hypothetical that I thought was more realistic than other people’s opinions and suggestions and formulations of the Big12. This is of course assuming BIG10 took Syracuse, Virginia, UNC, and Duke and SEC took Va Tech, NCST, Clemson, and Florida State. Because if that happens, then my hypothetical scenario would make sense. Big12 can’t be hypocritical in their argument and approach if complained about PAC and ACC with elitism and arrogance and do that shit themselves. Boise State gets way more viewers than multiple power schools and is more of a national brand and would be a good addition. My hypothesis was that the PAC doesn’t expand and add SDSU and SDSU was available like the ACC schools which are not but if they were, then alignment would be sort of what I suggested. You remember that not too long ago Clemson, Fla State, and Miami were interested in going to the Big12 albeit with Oklahoma and Texas in the conference and thus out of fear that triggered the rest of ACC schools do that ridiculous GoR they all agreed to so no one else would do what Maryland did and those 3 didn’t bolt for Big12.

    The only ACC teams that have enough media power to even be considered by B1G is ND (even though football has special status), FSU (is close to gaining AAU status), Clemson (worse academic fit for B1G), Miami (just received AAU status but football commitment needs to improve), and maybe NC. B1G will likely be $10M+ per school ahead of SEC no matter what happens and will expect those schools to be able to pull their weight when it comes to media money. B1G is unlikely to consider Virginia, Georgia Tech (limited college sports media interest in a professional sports town unless that school is Georgia), Pitt, Duke or anyone else because its mostly about the money. Academic fit is nice but only if you can generate enough media money to keep the payouts to each school in the conference approximately the same. So are the Presidents/Chancellors of ND, FSU, Clemson, Miami, and NC worried more about a cultural fit when it comes to sports (SEC), or about getting equal (or slightly more) money plus a huge academic boost worth hundreds of millions of dollars in future research grants generated by becoming members of the B1G research consortium? I suspect within the next 5 years we will know the answer.

    With the exception of Florida State and Clemson every other school in the ACC sucks ass in football, historically. Their records against Florida State and Clemson are just insanely bad.
    Why any conference would want those schools is beyond me. I don't care what market they're in if they suck nobody's going to watch.
    Now before anybody says anything, I know that we have been down for about 6 years. That's a hell of a lot less than every other program in the ACC. If anybody would really like to see the numbers you can take a little initiative and look it up yourself but if not just respond below and as soon as I get time I'll look it up and post it on here. I don't mind doing research I'm a former debater and was😮 a pretty damn good one at that.
    Mississippi and Texas both have two SEC teams. Florida could certainly handle it and our viewership numbers would still kill 3/4 of the SEC or Big ten teams.
    If the SEC chooses somebody other than Florida State then it will be out of spite. Spite for not joining in 1991. Spite for kicking SEC teams ass on the regular. Spite for being the only team in having the only athletic director that have the balls to step up and say this contract sucks and it will not stand.
    Florida state's collective has nearly tripled since "The Snub". I would not be surprised at all if the Big 10 or the SEC does not offer, we go back to being independent. Of course at that point scheduling would be really difficult because none of the big boys would want to play us.
