    • @TheLAGopher

Not just Fox Sports, but NBC,CBS, and the Big Ten network that most cable and satellite companies carry as part of a basic package.
The B1G is also better positioned to cut a major streaming deal with Amazon,Apple, or Netflicks, since they haven't married themselves to
one broadcast partner as the SEC did with Disney. Adding multiple ACC schools (and probably Notre Dame at that point) would certainly
bring in enough extra content to send games over to streaming.

The reason why most teams get downgraded in SEC is because it's usually only four big powerhouses in that conference and you have to face them every year and it's demoralizing when you get spanked 63 to 3 fsu fans😂

Being born and raised in the Midwest and currently living in Chicago, I cannot overstate how important ND is generationally for fans. In terms of brand, culture, academics, geography (Chicago's #1 team) and tradition they're on their own tier. The SEC is aware of that as well.

Another key factor is ESPN's financial situation. Business is business and the ROI (return on investment) identifies the profit/loss factor. Washington was all in last year and the 2024 team is completely new. USC might be able to do something, but their hires always seems to go wrong for them.

The biggest problem for the sec in my opinion is the enrollment size. I read an article where the big 10 schools have about 200k more students and they are playing the long game. I believe the state population is larger in the big 10 schools as well. The only article I could find referencing the population of both conferences was before the addition of Rutgers USC UCLA Oregon and Washington to the big 10 and Oklahoma to the SEC. The sec had an advantage of about 10 million people at that point but I’m guessing the advantage is for the big 10 by a large margin just due to California alone. The numbers I found put it around 40 million just in California alone. Then NY is around 20 million. That’s a lot of people to buy online subscriptions. I’m also curious about the average income difference.

I see the future of NCAA football to be similar to the old NFL /AFL days. The Big 10 and SEC will grow larger and any team worth talking about will be in either the Big 10 or SEC. At the end of every season each conference will have a playoff to see which team will represent their conference in the NCAA championship game.
Rankings and playoff invitations will no longer matter. The playoffs will be done by the conference instead of the playoff committee.

I think winning Nattys is what ultimately serves to create the public perception of the better or more powerful college football conference these days. It is as simple as that. The B1G racked one up this last football season but needs several more running in close succession to create that public perception of being the more powerful football conference. FSU would have to join the B1G and win a natty to have a bearing in that most powerful perception. If FSU wants to travel coast to coast regularly playing football games. More power to them. Interesting discussion / great topics...
I'm "assuming" 3 things when it come to B1G expansion.
1- FSU and ND are B1G's next two preferred adds.
2- B1G expansion cap is 20 (maybe 21 w/ ND, if they dont par-up with FSU). After #20 expansion become dilutive to profitability.
    * I dont believe media partners will fund further expansion; Not without a clear understanding of how steaming will effect profits.
3- If ND remains independent; The B1G could add FSU alone, or look to add an FSU +1, to hit that 20 team conf. marker.
    * Miami is just one of several FSU +1 options. UNC, UV, GT, event A&M, CU, KU will be under consideration. To me the small private university in Coral Gables, with no stadium, and an declining fan base is not necessarily the best option.

Even the SEC has to go to Missouri. I think it will work out better for FSU as their early season games have been affected by hurricanes. The northern schools are going to kill to be in Florida later in the year for recruiting and weather. It will be similar to the ACC. I can't think of many snow games vs BC or Pittsburgh at least for FSU. ACC had it set where every school played at least one Florida school FSU or UM every year. FSU opened vs USC in LA in 1997 and played many Big 10 schools in the 80s and 90s. With bigger NIL deals for national schedules I doubt many teams will care expect the SEC ones who use excuses like weather as to way they can only play in one area and the same schools over and over again

UNC really isn't a huge add at least not as big as some people think if I were the B1G I'd rather add Miami but after that who's left that's really capable of being worth 100M a year ... They can double down on their current market and take Clemson but their not worth as much as FSU now and their values decreasing because unlike FSU they were never a national brand FSU maintained a chunk of it's value even while missing bowl games ... Add NCstate and Virgina maybe GT and Virgina Tech ... Are those teams people are really gonna watch or are they just more Missouri's ... Maybe TCU Oklahoma State West Virgina and Baylor I mean maybe but the BIG12 isn't in collapse like the ACC they might be harder to get ... And who's really in the West or North that's not in the B1G right now and is worth taking other than ND who would never join the SEC ... The B1G taking FSU ND UNC and like I said Miami would leave the SEC with no real way to compete with them and while the SEC is still slightly ahead in terms of the on the field product the B1G is already beating them in every other way and it's only a matter of time before that starts to matter

FSU doesn't need help being relevant to be honest they don't even really need the money their not broke and with the expanded playoff it's unlikely they'd ever get screwed again ... I am not sure this coast-to-coast conference situation is not a mixed bag, especially when you are looking at the sports like soccer, gymnastics, etc. that are an important parts of the school's athletic program but not a big revenue generator. The op mentioned the Big Ten catching and passing the SEC by adding some of the stronger ACC teams, but one could argue (as did the op) that the two leagues are already pretty even, and top to bottom, the Big Ten may actually be better this year. I also am wondering where the point of diminishing returns is on the number of teams in a conference, regardless of how strong they are, and that applies to both the SEC and the Big Ten.
You also need to look at how well the teams fit into their conference. My two teams are Arkansas, where I am from and live, and FSU, where I went to school, so this colors my perspective, but I think both FSU and Clemson are better SEC fits and Notre Dame is a natural fit for the Big Ten.
I find it interesting to see the current cooperation between the Big Ten and the SEC as they put pressure on the NCAA to make some changes. Keep in mind that another option out there that is not being discussed is what happens if there is a split, with the Big Ten and SEC (Big SEC) being in one group and the teams that elect to remain part of the NCAA in another group. This could certainly impact the picture even further, especially if there were reasons that NCAA teams couldn't compete with the Big SEC group.

The SEC's pride will ultimately be their downfall. The SEC doesn't think that it *needs* anyone. The SEC could thwart the B1G and stop them dead in their tracks if they were to reach out and add Clemson, FSU, UNC, and NC State. Get to 20 and be the undisputed best conference in the nation. Sure, the B1G COULD theoretically add Miami and Virginia (or GA Tech) and be content, but it wouldn't in any way, shape, or form be as good as what the SEC did in this scenario.
That said, if the B1G adds FSU, it's over.
I wouldn't expect that the B1G HAS to have a travel partner for FSU, but I can say that having to play a 9 game conference schedule in the B1G, going coast to coast, then also having to play Miami and Florida, leaving only one slot for a non-conference "cupcake" game, will put FSU at a disadvantage. Personally, I'd rather Miami came with us and kept that rivalry as a protected conference rivalry rather than letting it potentially die.
Don't get me wrong, if it came down to "You go alone or not at all" you go 100 times out of 100, but still...
At least in the case of the SEC, you now have the Florida game as a protected rivalry and can still play Miami as a non-conference game with the ability to schedule two smaller schools for non-conference as well.

This is crazy 😂. Bama and ga obv clear um and OSU. 2nd tier sec clears again by a wide margin and 3rd tier sec clears. U could add ole miss a current top 10 team to this list as well in terms of winning the sec will always be the cream of the crop bc the sec recruits at a completely different level reason being all the best recruits are from the south. It's hard to pull them from the south to a completely different lifestyle in the north.

ND is contractually tired to the ACC. Not sure why everyone keeps missing that. They played for the ACC conference champion in 2020. NBC gets all of their homes games, but all other games belong to the ACC.

Correct. Big difference is that they could get out much easier than all other full members.

@CFBAddiction nope. They're tied to the same contract that FSU is. They'll have to pay that exit fee. Their locked in also. That's why you don't hear any kick back or responded from ND on the matter. They're in bed with the ACC. That happened as soon as they signed to play for the ACC conference in 2020. Otherwise, they would have not made the playoffs because there were no non-conference games that year. ND is locked in until 2036.

NBC will be promoting Big Ten Saturday Night games during it's Notre Dame contests and both ND Big Ten matchups in 2024 (At Purdue and at USC) will be road games likely featured on Big Ten Saturday Night. Slowly but surely ND brand will be tied closer and closer to the B1G.

The SEC doesn't want FSU. FSU is not as valuable as you think you are. also the SEC is looking to expand not add to a state they already have a Team in.

FSU is not AAU. Some people say that is a preference and not a requirement. The BIG will probably add Miami plus one other and call it good. Unless ND becomes available in 2030.

All the AAU is simply a glorified Lobbyist group. That is not a static, Nebraska had it & lost it. In fact before Nebraska entered the B1G, they were no longer an AAU member. Each and every year schools are added & dropped. It is not a measuring stick for the quality of education a school provides. By the way Florida State viewership numbers are more than twice that of Miami. Watch a Miami game & notice there are no fans in the stands.

@@timothyblack3322 There were ten teams vetted by the BIG several months ago and only one was from Florida and that was Miami which is AAU. This may not be important to you, but it is to the BIG.

@@ChrisSadowski-pp1np‘vetted’ can result in two things: B1G wants Miami and B1G doesn’t want Miami. It looks like the vetting likely yielded the latter. Why? You don’t see Miami fighting to get out of ACC. Hmm..

@@jamesw4445 Miami would leave given the opportunity from what I've read. They and other ACC teams are waiting to see if FSU can get out without too much of a penalty. The teams that aren't looking to get out are the teams with no options; Wake forest, Syracuse, BC, and a lesser case NCS.

Mi State was not AAU when admitted. FSU is on the cusp, and frankly, should have been granted over ND, who has no hospital and performs little research (good school, but AAU is about research more than anything). If the B1G wants FSU, and I believe they do, temporary lack of AAU will not be a hangup.
