I saw an interview with Billy Gibbons talking about playing 7s a few years ago, bought a set of his Reverend Willy's strings in a .07 gauge and never looked back. Ive got them on all of my guitars now except for my DBZ and its got 8s. Great video, sir!
I've heard from road crew people (many years ago) that many famous guitarists play very light gauges like 8s and lower. Even SRV dropped down to 9s because his wrists were starting to feel those 11s. I just put Reverend Willy's 7s on my PRS Paul's guitar.
EVH, Brian May and Beck all used light (9 or below). Vai uses 9s most of the time and into a tour he might upscale to 10s if he's feeling his wrist has become louder.
@@guitarstuffstudio I thought I was being racy using nines...... I'm an OAP now and I'll get some 7s and 8s to try them out. Some of my guitars have tens and I have a problem bending more than half a tone. Cheers!

Welcome aboard!
One of the best things I have ever done was change to light strings.
I think 7s are just a little too light for me. 8s are my sweet spot

Nah SRV never went to 9's that's bs! He may have went lighter but not that light!

@@JohnVieto yeah that's true, I forgot SRV was using 13's I think he went down to 11s or something like that.
