“cleaning watch face” is RISKY (playing with new technique) pencil eraser

Art gum or the white solid ones. I use Ridico and rub alot. Results are slower but les likely to damage the dial. This would not work on patined laquored printed dials.

There are kneadable erasers I seen used in art conservation, they might be even less likely to damage something.
