  • My good friend Paul Langosch stopped by today to do some playing and we decided to film some stuff for RUclips. Paul was a member of Tony Bennett's band for over 20 years, as well as George Shearing's Trio and many other jazz icons. I am truly blessed to have a musical friendship with Paul.

    That was really nice Chris. Birdland has a lovely warm tone with a bit of bite to it. Paul swings hard - he would be a pleasure to play with. 1/2 size bass? Thanks for keeping the tradition alive. More licks to steal...

    • @paullangosch7525
      @paullangosch7525 2 года назад

      Hi, The bass I am playing is a 7/8 size. I think the fish-eye lens Chris used on this made it seem a little smaller looking. These days the size of the body of a bass can be hugely different but there is a consensus on the string length. Somewhere between 41-42' is the norm these days.

    • @fishinelectrician
      @fishinelectrician 2 года назад

      @@paullangosch7525 thanks for your reply Paul. It is indeed the lens distorting the size of your bass. For the little DB playing I do- I have a 3/4 Charlick folding DB. I enjoyed your groove and your lines.

    Fantastic! I hadn't seen this show yet, for some reason I missed it. Now I can try to integrate the version where you play it alone, with some of these wonderful phrasings.
    Mr. Chris, perhaps it will be the sound (as some say), perhaps the cleanliness of the execution, perhaps it may be due to your particular technique, but I am convinced that the quality of your jazz lies precisely in the choice of phrases and arrangements that you propose, which truly harken back to the swing era, while being original, they are irresistibly classic. 🎷🎺🪕
    And for someone like me, who is always looking for the "blue side" of jazz, it's simply perfect.
    Greetings from your number one Italian fan.
    Thank you on behalf of everyone.

    Mr. Whiteman... I congratulate you for the guitar sound and the beautiful phrases and the swing displayed in this gig. Would you be so kind, to reveal your secret? How do you get that perfect sound on the guitar? Set, eq, pedals (if used), amp, etc. Thanks since now. Many guitarists will thank you for the information. Greetings from Buenos Aires - Argentina.

    • @ChrisWhitemanGuitar
      @ChrisWhitemanGuitar  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Rick, I don't really have a secret. Most of my tone comes from the fingers and really trying to be clear with my musical ideas. The guitar here is a Gibson Byrdland with .013 Daddario strings(roundwounds) and I am playing through a quilter mini 101 reverb amp. Medium fender pick.
