I've used it since it came out in 2018. Came from a 6DII and 5DIV. It's basically a 5DIV at a fraction of the price. Same sensor, same dynamic range. Can attest, the battery life is phenomenal and after 4 years, I haven't needed or wanted anything else. Great video, keep it up! 👊
@@CodyMajeres yea it's still sharp and a nice first FF for anybody who will be picking it up.. I rather spend a bit more picking this camera than EOS RP
just got one to pair with my R6. idk what it is but the R just feels so much better in my hands. also its the only r series camera with the mini HDMI. i HATE the micro HDMI so I love this camera
Hi Cody! Love your videos about the R, I picked one up this month wanting to step into the mirrorless game. I would love it if you could make a video discussing gear/accessories you own!
Why not customize that Touch Bar as a white balance slider? I’m thinking of getting that camera and that’s the first thing I probably would do, since like everyone says that Touch Bar is useless… well I figure maybe it can be of good use if I were to set it for WB.
That’s a good use for it! I would have to try that, but my white balance doesn’t tend to change a whole lot. I have it set to ISO for me personally, but I end up using the screen to change ISO 90% of the time. I think part of the issue (for me anyway) with the touch bar is it’s not that easy to use. It’s not just touch or push, you have to like touch and slide a direction for it to register, and sometimes it doesn’t register the first time for me.
I like my Godox key light, it’s an incredible value for the dollar amount. I would recommend getting the Bi-Color version that is now available to allow you to alter the white balance. Mine is stuck at 5600K
@@CodyMajeres I honestly don’t use it as much but I do have it set for 2 things. And I only set the left and right to tap which is toggle on and off the touch and drag option. And then for playback I have it set to image browsing, slide the whole bar to select different images and I can swipe through them pretty fast. I used to have this bar set for autofocus method but I actually have that set as a button.
That kind of depends on what you're shooting and how you're shooting, but I'll try to answer. Canon states 370 images per battery. Another person has gotten over 1,100 on a battery. I've personally seen it go much higher than that, as I've shot for over a day and a half with one battery. Depends on if you're shooting something like sporting events where you'll be in burst mode capturing a lot of photos or something like landscape where you don't take nearly as many photos. I've been very pleased with how long it lasts!
I own two EOS R bodies and love them. Even though I've migrated to the Sony A7Siii for most of my video work, the EOS R's still get plenty of use for photography or when I need a really nice webcam. The only reason that I moved away from it was to get 4K without a crop.
Glad to hear you still find use and enjoy your EOS R’s! Understandable for the 4K crop, but still getting a lot of great use out of mine around that feature. Thanks for the comment!
@@markshirley01 I agree - 1080p is very good quality out of the EOS R. For those that want to publish 4K videos, it upscales to 4K very well. Side-by-side you can tell the difference in video quality with native 4K, even when upscaled. However, the improvement is incremental. For the price point (especially if shopping used market) this camera is an awesome choice.
Just purchased one with 24-105 L lens from Canon Online store for discounted price. I wonder if Canon will upgrade firmware for R to make options in AF for people, animal and birds detection available like R6 and R5 have? For this, better AF and IBIS I'm considering R6 instead of R. Not sure if it worth the extra $700-900 for this.
I was between those two as well. It all comes down to what is important to you as a photographer! I would assume that Canon will not upgrade firmware for the R to have those capabilities though.
Don't let the intro fool you, I'm not one to run on the beach 😅
Who shoots on the Canon EOS R?!

Appreciate it, Kyle! 👊
I just picked this up for my secondary camera, I bought it used but I really like the feel of it!
It really is a great camera at a great value, especially in 2023!

It does feel good to hold! Didn’t realize that about the HDMI but another plus for the R! Still my pick for best value on Canon’s mirrorless lineup :)
The look of the R images is very appealing and unique. The camera body ergonomics are great. I find myself reaching for it more often than my R5.
I’ve never had my hands on an R5 but you’re not the first I’ve heard say this!
great video bro! clear and unbiased explanations. keep up the videos, i’ll be waiting for more!
Appreciate that a lot! More on the way!
What ISO you shot this video in?
I keep it at ISO 400 with the EOS R if possible.

Thanks Jayden! Mirrorless game is a fun one. I've got 2 videos brewing about gear and accessories so stay tuned!

Nice opening scene! Enjoyed your video. You mentioned you use an EOS R for work. What kind of work do you do as your 'day job?'
Also, what are your thoughts on the godox key light you use? Have you done a video on it? Or on your 'studio setup?'
Thanks for the question! I’m a content coordinator for a home builder, so I produce all their internal photos and video content.

I still have my EOS R 🥰 and when I shoot for my business I rent a second EOS R
I've been loving it as well! If you have any good use for the slider bar, let me know cause I'd love to actually utilize it more 😅

Hi Cody , another informative Vlog ..will my canon 80d battery go into the r camera please ? Take care x
Yes, I'm still using all my 80D batteries!
@@CodyMajeres cheers Cody , makes it nicer when people reply ..hope your subs grow as you are direct and to the point but in a pleasant way x
I appreciate that! Happy I could help :)
Buenos días, la calidad de la imagen y el enfoque no hay diferencia notable con la R6?
I have never personally used the R6 for any work so I can’t say for sure! But the image quality and focus is great on the R
@@CodyMajeres Gracias.
It’s soo crazy, because I absolutely love my R slider bar.. I use it all the time
What do you have it set up to do??
Love my EOS R, its a phenomenal Stills camera and the ergonomics are perfect for me. Great Video, thanks Cody
Thanks for watching!

1080.quality is supposed to be good - handy if you only do social media work and have no need for 4K
