    I own a pair of Formula Cura 4 , no one has ever been able to bleed them properly so far, they are a nightmare to work on.

      It is fairly easy. We believe anyone who can ride a bicycle can bleed their brakes.

    What is the viscosity of Formula Brake Fluid please?

    • @bleedkit
      @bleedkit  2 года назад +2

      Unfortunately, we do not have viscosity data for Formula mineral oil.
      But, our Gold hydraulic oil has a viscosity index of 200, which is well above the 98 of viscosity index of Shimano mineral oil.
      Viscosity Index - The viscosity index, commonly designated VI, is an arbitrary numbering scale that indicates the changes in oil viscosity with changes in temperature. The viscosity index can be classified as follows:
      * low VI - below 35
      * medium VI - 35 to 80
      * high VI - 80 to 110
      * very high VI - above 110.
      A high viscosity index indicates small oil viscosity changes with temperature. A low viscosity index indicates high viscosity changes with temperature. Therefore, a fluid that has a high viscosity index can be expected to undergo very little change in viscosity with temperature extremes and is considered to have a stable viscosity. A fluid with a low viscosity index can be expected to undergo a significant change in viscosity as the temperature fluctuates. The less viscosity is changed by temperature, the higher the viscosity index.

      I honestly would not worry about viscosity, there’s imperceptible flow in a brake system. A good quality LMH oil from a motor factor works fine. Just don’t ever chance any DoT fluids!

    Can you use Shimano mineral oil with Cura 4 brakes - given that they also use mineral oil?

    • @BoyanGeorgiev666
      @BoyanGeorgiev666 2 месяца назад

      I think you can since both oils are very similar.Both have a viscosity of about 8.5cSt at 40°C, at 100°C the Shimano stuff is around 2.4cSt and the Gold is around 2.8cSt. Gold quotes a "higher viscosity index" - aka their fluid has a more consistent viscosity over a range of temperatures - but the MTB bros usually want a fluid with as low a viscosity as possible at the operating temperature, so Shimano's stuff actually looks better here.
      The main thing that's different is that Gold Oil has a (claimed) boiling temperature that is EXTREMELY high - they're claiming 360°C. That's waaay in excess of pretty much any other brake fluid commonly used on bikes or cars: DOT5.1's boiling point is initially 270°C and degrades over time, and mineral oils are typically in the 250-300°C range (Shimano's is about 280°C). Frankly the extra-extra high boiling point of Gold should not matter to you unless you are a top-0.1% rider pushing to the very limits of performance - in the bike world, anything with a boiling point over 200°C is more than plenty.

      @@ManeMtb This is what a guy on reddit told me as I asked the same question. I still don't know if I should use the Shimano oil or just buy the original stuff. But there is a video (sadly in italian) on youtube and a guy who uses Juice Lubes mineral oil on his Cura 4s. And that oil is supposed to work with all brakes that use mineral oil, Shimano included. So I suppose we can safely use shimano or any other mineral oil.

      Disposal of the used brake oil? If we are talking about DOT 4 or 5.1 or mineral brake oil, like Shimano red or Magura Royal blood then please dispose of them properly as they are all poisonous and water pollutants. Take them to the local petrol station or car mechanic. Normally they know how to handle used oils.
      But, if we are talking about our Gold hydraulic oil, then this is a completely different story. It is 100% biodegradable and 100% non-toxic. So you can throw it in nature (your backyard). Bacteria will eat it. No kidding at all. 100% safe for enviroment.
