  • In this video we look at William DuVall and the respect he has towards former AIC lead singer Layne Staley. I talk about both singers and how good of a job DuVall has done in a no win situation really. But how he has done a great job in helping the band continue on.

      The only thing that sucked about Duvall and took some adjusting to for me is that he IS quite similar to Staley in his vocals, so you sometimes listen to a Duvall Album and just go... The Music was written about life lessons mostly disturbing with so much truth we all could relate .Listening now just takes us back ..Layne slaying with the earth shaking raw passion in his powerful VOICE ..NEVER FORGET the VIBES transpired like a run away train bursting into your soul .His decline was / is painful..addiction is UGHLY and EVIL .The demons erodes from the inside until a shell of ones self is totally gone ..NOTHING MATTERS but the drug and death isn't feared but welcomed to finally end the suffering .Bless his twisted and loving heart !! ❤️ like Jerry says ..well I'll love you anyway 😘 spoken for all who still love Layne !! ❤️

    Years ago when Rainer Fog dropped, a friend and I were talking about the post-Layne records and how easily we could hear Layne on them even though it was DuVall & Cantrell. To us, DuVall was and still is the right pick while occasionally nitpicking that seeing Maynard would be sick on a couple of old tracks like the Tsunami Benefit concert from 2005. As long as Cantrell continues writing music under AIC, it's easy to imagine Layne singing on those songs with the harmonies.

    When I heard “a job to do” from the closing credits of John Wick chap 2, my first thought was that it was an AIC song that was never released. Thought it was Layne’s voice, music credits show that it’s written by and performed by Jerry. Jerry could vocally front AIC, always wondered why not?

    • @FWDSUXARSE
      @FWDSUXARSE Год назад +5

      I think the vocal harmonizing between two singers has always been a signature AIC sound. Jerry's great but I like him doing harmonizing with another singer. Gives it more layers.
      Jerry could front AIC but I just think it's got a richer sound with dual vocals.

    • @Ariel_thenotsolittlemermaid
      @Ariel_thenotsolittlemermaid Год назад +6

      Because he never really wanted to be a singer- Layne had to convince him to start singing on AIC's songs.
      Not to mention that he can't do most of Layne's harder vocal lines, and that many of the sings have both him and Layne singing so he wouldn't have been able to do it alone.

I was and still am a HUGE Layne Staley fan and wasn't sure how I was going to feel about William but he got up there and did his own thing and didn't try to be a legacy version of Layne. He was just himself and I think he honors Layne's contributions wonderfully. One of my favorite songs by the original AIC is 'Them Bones'. William said at the Rock on the Range show in 2009 they never sing this song live but they were gonna do it for that show and then I heard that opening scream & lost my $#!+. I feel he honors Layne very well.

The 1st time I heard A-n-C's I was so happy that someone out in the music business was playing an eerily same type of music I naturally was writing. As my band grew opportunities came our way. On the verge of bigger companies reaching out to myself and songwriting partner (phenom guitarist) my songwriting partner went down the road of injecting drugs. 2 yrs later he committed suicide and ended his legacy as the "best" guitarist ever born in Michigan. The band that never was. As a musician, I'm happy that A-n-C's has risen again and has always inspired me. Thank you. So glad I got to see you at Tiger Stadium

    I refused to listen to William Duvall's Alice In Chains for about a month. Not because I didn't like it: Post-Layne Alice In Chains is exactly the right kind of sludge metal that I've always loved. It was for the same reason Dio's Sabbath fell flat... *IT AIN'T OZZY*. *IT AIN'T LAYNE*. But once I got over that, just like with Dio, and stopped trying to compare the two, I got to actually try listening to Duvall's AIC, And Duvall honestly did it. He managed to keep a band rolling on after one of it's wheels fell off and exploded. That's a darn good accomplishment, and he deserves to be proud for having landed on his feet into the shoes of someone like Layne Staley.

    William DuVall BLOWS!! This is not AIC, it's a cover band!! If you have ever seen AIC live with Layne than you wouldn't dare try say William is a "great" replacement...he sucks!! Out of respect to Layne they should have called themselves something different because it isn't Williams songs that are selling tickets, it's people wanting to hear Layne's songs.

    The biggest fatal mistake they made in my opinion was not finding a vocalist of similar caliber to continue - DuVall is extremely subpar, and before you people lash at me in the comments, I'm not one of those "no Layne, no chains" guys. The issue is that these songs need to be elevated with equally great vocals to reach the heights they deserve, and DuVall's talent is nowhere near that of the rest of the guys in the band. Take the Mike Inez situation for instance : Mike Starr was an incredibly talented bass player, and he really brought the bass to the forefront of some of the most iconic songs of the band. When he was replaced, the band brought in a guy who was on an equal caliber of talent; even if he wasn't Starr, he could still bring that incredibly unique bass to the forefront of the songs and make some amazing classics with the band, such as Rotten Apple, A little bitter, Nutshell, and many, many more songs that exemplify just how great of a caliber of a bass player he is. No one today has any issues with Mike Inez being in the band just because he isn't Mike Starr, because he made it work, he was that good.
    The same goes for the vocals. I'm not hating on William. He in fact seems like a great guy and all, but he is just nowhere near the same ballpark of talent as Staley was. I don't dislike his singing because he isn't Layne, I dislike it because its subpar, and just like the example with Starr, if the band had brought in another incredible talent, even a female lead singer, I would be all over it; But they didn't. No matter how many times I try to convince myself to like DuVall, all it takes is to listen to him live try to belt the chorus of "Man in The Box", or sing "Them Bones", or any of the other Staley era songs, and my ears just cringe. Its doing a disservice to these incredible pieces of music, to the point where its almost insulting.
    Its a real shame honestly, and I think that if the band would have hired someone entirely different before BGWTB came out, they might have managed to achieve even greater artistic heights. As much as I enjoy some songs off their 3 DuVall era records (Private Hell, Acid Bubble, Black Give Way to Blue, Breath on a Window, Choke, Lab Monkey, All I am, Fly) , I cannot fool myself into thinking these albums stand anywhere near the same level of pure awesomeness as all of their work with Staley.
    I love this band dearly, and their music has been instrumental to my life, and I wish the members all the best, but I cannot help but be saddened that they didn't go another route after the unfortunate passing of the great late Staley. Someone with the level of Staley's talent deserved to be replaced with another singer of equally raw talent, that does not try to imitate him, but can still reach the same levels of power, tight vocal control, grit, and pure raw emotional delivery of the songs.
    I believe fans who keep reiterating that DuVall is a perfect fit are just fooling themselves because they love the band so much that they try to convince themselves its all good. I've been there myself, but its just not it.
