  • Some Stove brands simply make smaller or larger version of their original designs...easy to make, easy to sell. Probably makes the most sense from a business perspective. Alternatively, I'm a natural born inventor...it's a compulsion. When I consider making a different sized stoves I see it as an opportunity to explore new concepts. The stove designing process is quite an adventure. When you start a design down a concept path it takes on an identity, a life of its own. My inventing process forms and shapes around its potential into what that stove can be to someone. Besides when you change the size of a wood-burning stove you also change its burning characteristics so it's a good time to explore all the possibilities.
"Why not re-invent the stove?" Every concept has pros and cons. Each unique balance between benefit and compromise defines a stoves character as to what it means to the camping experience. Which of my designs speak to you?
The "Original" 5"G2 Firebox Stove: Is a rugged "Jack of All Trades." With its folding frame-work of versatility that is still expressing its potential ten years later! It's different parts work with each other so symbiotically that almost anything you try seems to somehow work. Using a Firebox Stove is fun because the exploration of what it can do never seems to end. An endless treasure hunt that challenges creativity then rewards with intuitive function. A classic legend that will amaze and delight the campers of the future. Primarily a wood burner but also works well with most any other commercial or natural fuel. Over-built bombproof durability!
The Firebox G2 3" Nano Stove: Regularly referred to as a "Gem of a Stove" by its following because It's high functioning simplicity. It's small but fierce! To get a high BTU from such a small structure I knew it needed to breathe freely which lent itself very well to its minimalistic design. The small diameter arms and legs are spring tempered for strength. With the Nano, less is more. Less bulk, weight and complication with plenty of function. I use the Nano primarily with the Trangia Alcohol Burner. Secondarily (as backup) with wood (twigs and sticks) which works very well but does require a bit more of your attention. The Nano works perfectly with the Trangia alcohol burner both for heat sensitive cooking and fast boiling with a wide variety of cookware. If you prefer the clean and convenient experience of cooking over alcohol, the Nano-Trangia combination provides an excellent experience for all type of camping
The Firebox Freestyle 4" Stove: Our newest stove design is an amalgamation of the Original 5" and the 3" Nano in size, form and function. The Freestyle isn't as small or light-weight as the Nano and it's not as heavy duty as the Original 5" but it does have a revolutionary trick up its sleeve. It's modular! We're talking about at least six different stove possibilities each with its own unique characteristics.
Tri-Torch 3 panel: Perfect for the ultralight backpacker who loves the idea of not packing fuel, rather gathering it along the way. A high BTU stove that works at high elevations due to being vertically fueled. Also works extremely well with the Toaks Syphon Jet alcohol burner for quick convenient boiling.
Standard 4Panel: A high performance light weight wood burner that also works very well with alcohol and gas burners. Its larger burn chamber can accommodate Swedish Fire Torch Fueling. Perfect for those wanting something bigger than the Nano yet lighter weight than the Original 5".
Hexagon Fire-Pit 6 panel: This set up gives enough space in the burn chamber for big chunky pieces of wood making it burn more like a traditional campfire. It folds flat into a single stack and fits into a single Fire-Pan-Tin, both as a fire-pan and for storage--meaning you can keep it configured for quick deployment at your next camp.
Bushcrafter 6 Panel: This configuration pays homage to the first bushcraft stove designs by legends like "Nimble Will Nomad." Its rectangular design works well with longer sticks and allows for multi-tasking. Also folds flat into a single stack.
Field Kitchen 8 Panel: This configuration gives you more of everything you get with the Bushcrafter 6. Multi-Tasking with larger cookware and using even longer sticks as fuel. This configuration does fold into two flat stacks which does fit into the (Everything Kit organizer case).
Octagon Campfire 8 Panel: This configuration has quickly become my favorite. A nice big campfire cooking experience with minimal weight and bulk. I've had up to three things all cooking at the same time. Also fold into two flat stacks.
The 4" Firebox Scout. The highest function/value ratio! The most smiles per dollar. Very high functioning at a very low price. Perfect for beginners and emergency preparedness where every dollar counts.

I love how you just modestly include your pre-production products with no explanation in your videos. Other companies would hype the hell out of them. Yours just show up on your site. Let’s hear about that isobutane burner and the modular utensils!

We have, and use regularly, almost all of the Firebox sets. They're the most impressive and innovative cooking tools on the market today. I've done everything from roasting Cornish game hens to pastry & crepes on them. With wood & charcoal, there's a learning curve certainly, in learning heat control. However, with the Trangia burners, both alcohol and isobutane (and this includes Steve's new diffuser unit), heat control down to just barely simmering is fantastic. As a chef, I can't see needing any other tools for overlanding, motocamping, backpacking or bikepacking.

The nano has been my favorite, easy to carry and use and is very versatile but if I was just starting out I’d probably just go for the freestyle everything kit. It can do anything you’d ever want to do with this style of stove, you’d never need to “upgrade”.

You wouldn't use a grill plate with a pot, you would use the included Firesticks that will hold the pot up. If you were to use the grill plate for the pot to eat in it would warp without meat pulling the heat out of the grill plate.

Thanks Eliza! As much as I love to give my customers what they want. The point of the freestyle is flexibility. Currently the different grills and even the fire grades can be used across all the different configurations and even for different functions. If the grills attached to each configuration I would have to have a special grill for each in other words you would have six grills to find space for in your kit rather than making the current one or two work for many situations and needs. I know it differs from previous designs but when you are exploring new concepts it takes you two different conclusions. Thanks for your understanding support and encouragement 👌👍😎

@@fireboxstove Yeah, would be pretty tricky or just flat out end up with a lot to carry.
I think, for my family's camping at least, that some way to hold the grill steady in the hexagonal and octagonal configuration would be the main desire. If I decide to go for it later on maybe I can fiddle around with it a bit and figure something out to prevent us accidentally shifting the grill around while we cook 😅

I have the nano with x-case as well as the freestyle. For my uses, I think the freestyle is just a little too big/heavy for backpacking (maybe I need the titanium version). For two people, a nano and a trangia works a treat, and I know that I can always use wood as a backup/emergency. But for 3-4+ people the bottleneck isn't the stove, it's the number of stoves, so 2 nanos would work better than one freestyle/original firebox, in my opinion. For car camping, or where size and weight is less important, then freestyle all the way. There's more flexibility, stability, and it's just more comfortable. I can only imagine the firebox is even more so. And as for the scout, I think it speaks for itself as a simple, no nonsense, indestructible emergency tool. No need for elegance or nuance there, just dependability.

    CHALLENGE:
Steve, can you create a twin walled, air heating, Firebox for a final burn of combustibles to reduce smoke for stealth camping?
Essentially a twin panelled outer. Fire inside, heating air between panels to burn the last of the combustibles as the hot air rises.

Hey Steve, just a heads up. I don’t know if it’s just me or others are experiencing this but my emails from you will not load. I use an ipad pro (rather new one at that) for checking my email. I have been having an issue for a few months now that certain companies that send me email, their emails lock up my email app and won’t load. The only fix for me is to delete those emails (so it won’t try and open them) and restart the app.
It’s interesting, that only companies that sell tobacco/vaping products or weapons (knives/swords) seem to have this issue. I can only assume you got lumped into this because you sell those evil knives! This shit really makes me po’d as it’s just an aweful coincidence that only certain companies are being blocked, and that’s exactly what’s happening as far-as I’m concerned. I don’t need Apple deciding what emails I can receive!

Steve, do you ever find many bones left in with the way you debone your fish?

    • @fireboxstove
      @fireboxstove  Год назад +1

That depends on my timing. If I allow it to go a little too long the bones are more likely to break off and stay in the meat. If I debone earlier the skeleton stays intact better but it's more difficult to get the meat to separate from the bones. Sometimes my meal is nearly bone free and other times I bump into one here and there.
For the most part it works very well but there is some strategy/technique involved. That's the old saying there's no substitute for experience 👌👍😎
