Yes, I know it's their property, but think of the possibilities that could be accomplished if you inspired these passionate people. *shake my head*
+ravager48 Yeh square seems to have a problem with the crono trigger series. FF12 was supposed to be a crono trigger game but got changed into FF12. On top of that FF3 and FF4 were remade on the ds in 3d. Then they got around to crono trigger and it was shameless port with no updates besides the damn touch screen. Then they shut down alot of crono trigger fan games that get any buzz but they have yet to shut down any Final Fantasy fan games. Pure bullshit.
I'm glad they didn't try to ovehaul it, they don't have the mentality to improve it anymore or even to create a good sequel in the series. It would have ended up with a bunch of people that look like a japanese version of Calvin Klein models like their current RPGs.

It was obviously built on a PS2 dev kit or emulator... No way that would come close to running on a N64. Think about it... Even though the N64 was capable of running games at 640x480 (the obvious resolution of the CTR demo), hardly any games ever used that resolution. Most games ran at 320x240 and barley ran at 20fps at that! This demo is running at 640x480 has decent draw distances with high poly count characters (for a ps2 game) and is running at at least a solid 30fps. Think of Super Mario 64 or Golden Eye 64... both ran at 320x240 and Golden eye barely ran at 20fps and it looked like crap compared to this demo... I even wonder if the PS2 could handle this demo. Think about Dragon Quest VIII... It looks very similar to this demo but the characters in that game had 2D textures for faces... This demo had fully rendered 3D faces! So it technically looked even better then DQ8! And made by only 3 or 5 people?!?! Come on... It was probably done on a PC and made to look like it was running on a Square Engine for a console... The programming talent to find the rendering efficiencies to have that game run on even a PS2 would be doubtful.. but not impossible. N64? Impossible.
Pisses me off to no end that this game got C&D. You can see the ammount of love and care that was put into this and shows that the people who made this really love the game to include details like Crono's and Frog's win poses.
They probable secretly finished it in house, thats what I would have done. But this taught me a lesson, you never release something like this until its done and there is nothing they can do about it. >_> Looks like a lot of it was done already, the engine and some of the openning.
Most likely this was almost completed if not completely finished. And also chances are the source material still exists but is stuck on some dusty HDD or CD-R/DVD-R in a drawer. I honestly hope this beautiful artwork and design is not lost forever. Some of us can hope for at least a source release at some point.
this is why i hate the Chrono trigger port Square Enix: OMG someones remaking chrono trigger and it looks better than what we could do! quick lets shut them down and say we were already gonna remake it! /insert shitty port Square enix: But it has 2 NEWWW DUNGEONSSSS /insert troll face
MannyKunV I just realised...Square Enix took down this remake because they knew it was better and could make more money if it had a price tag on it. So they took it down. Now imagine we got a completely shitty remake of this game, Square would be like "Ugh,the game is so bad. We don't care it is a remake made without our consent,it's bad as fuck. Let the developers suffer" This goes for all video game companies. They only take it down because they know it will make some good money or in case of a free game, be loved by more fans than the original.
It kind of makes no sense that square had C&D this game, I mean they could of asked to publish the game and share a split of the profits, or even ask them to work for them because this looks beyond AMAZING for a fan game, and it shows that they have the talent to make a game like this.
@@snowstorm9172 The law is a bit stupid on this. Basically, if they don't protect their IP from EVERYONE, they can't protect it AT ALL. In the 21st century, copyrights have no real need to exist. They do nothing except inhibit human evolution, be it artistically, technologically, or otherwise. I think people will figure this out, eventually - there's no need to prevent a technology from being improved, for instance, solely because an individual feels like they deserve to keep making money off of something that CAN be improved - especially when they REFUSE to improve it. In the artistic realm, it's even more arbitrary - why should a person be able to copyright a character, idea, or even a song or lyrics? Let stories be told - if they get popular or screw up the canon - who cares? The masses choose what is right and good, the creators just create. The only reason this game was stopped was because a certain corporation didn't want anyone else making money off of something they feel is theirs. But it never was theirs - it was the ideas of hundreds of different people - the majority of whom probably no longer receive paychecks from Square-Enix.
That's patents, sir. Patents do not belong in areas like software, for example. They generally are just plain wrong, there is no excuse, let alone reason, for justifying patents. The length of copyright just needs to be reduced to something reasonable like 50 years, and things could be re-copyrightable that have lost copyright like every 15 years unless they have been made public domain by the copyright holder at the end of the copyright. People are selfish and so they want some way to protect their intellectual property, this is served pretty well by copyrights.
It's 2020 and somewhere deep in my heart, I wish Chrono Trigger Resurrection was able to be completed. I'm sure Nathan has moved on to bigger and better opportunities in life, but I will always respect him for being a true fan - someone willing to spend 3,000 + hours creating a classic true to nature and, at the time, willing to offer a demo of 10 different scenes to us fans at no cost.

Square Enix, seriously wtf? We've been waiting for this!
"sigh" this had so much potential Square-Enix doesn't even know that this remake could have been a gold mine!
They probable secretly finished it in house, thats what I would have done.
But this taught me a lesson, you never release something like this until
its done and there is nothing they can do about it. >_>
Looks like a lot of it was done already, the engine and some of the openning.
Most likely this was almost completed if not completely finished. And also chances are the source material still exists but is stuck on some dusty HDD or CD-R/DVD-R in a drawer.
I honestly hope this beautiful artwork and design is not lost forever. Some of us can hope for at least a source release at some point.
still looks and sounds good 20 years later.
this is why i hate the Chrono trigger port
Square Enix: OMG someones remaking chrono trigger and it looks better than what we could do! quick lets shut them down and say we were already gonna remake it!
/insert shitty port
Square enix: But it has 2 NEWWW DUNGEONSSSS /insert troll face
MannyKunV I just realised...Square Enix took down this remake because they knew it was better and could make more money if it had a price tag on it. So they took it down. Now imagine we got a completely shitty remake of this game, Square would be like "Ugh,the game is so bad. We don't care it is a remake made without our consent,it's bad as fuck. Let the developers suffer"
This goes for all video game companies. They only take it down because they know it will make some good money or in case of a free game, be loved by more fans than the original.
Damn you can really tell how old this comment is
I soiled my pants when I saw this project back in 2000. Damn Square for killing it.
Magnifique! if only it could be released....i love the chrono cross ost at the beginning
OMFG!!! This is awesome. Each time I looks at this remake, it make angry cause we will nver be able to play it...
It kind of makes no sense that square had C&D this game, I mean they could of asked to publish the game and share a split of the profits, or even ask them to work for them because this looks beyond AMAZING for a fan game, and it shows that they have the talent to make a game like this.
That's not how it works. This "game" was BLATANTLY illegal, andSquare would get into SERIOUS problems if they DIDN'T C&D it!
@@corjonbett What kind of problems? Seems odd to me that this would cause them issues
@@snowstorm9172 The law is a bit stupid on this. Basically, if they don't protect their IP from EVERYONE, they can't protect it AT ALL.
If someone made a game with crude parodies of all their characters meant for defamation, they'd still be able to cry discrimination, because they didn't prevent an eearlier fangame from being made.
Look at this, and now look at Trails of Mana that just came out.... 16 years, and thats what we got...
but it gives me hope bc they’re starting to remake their legendary titles again (Secret of Mana, FF7, now hopefully chrono next)
Was the source code of this ever leaked?
No : )
Real shame. Someone would have finished it for you.
this demo is more polished than many completed games from nowdays
But... The Future Refused to Change.
いつ見てもクオリティやばい
2005年のユーザーメイドなのにえげつなすぎる
2:10 ここからクロス→トリガーとエンディングのBGMが続く構成秀逸すぎる

めっちゃプレイしたい
i cry everytime i see this video...this was a fucking masterpiece...
Oh, I am CRUSHED!!! I just watched this and within 3 minutes was ready to buy whatever it takes to relive this game from a new perspective. I loved it immediately, how it looked like it was staying true to the original. It's a shame this was suppressed.
Never Forget this, 11/2019
if only this game project was kept 100% secret then release it to the public. that would been perfect :D
WHY DID THIS GAME HAVE TO BE CANCELLED!? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!?!??!
GODDAMMIT SQUARE! DAMN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how come i only became aware of chrono resurrection just yesterday??? i don't play much video games nowadays, but i would definitely play an up-to-date 3D version of chrono trigger and ff7! someone, please finish the project!
I will NEVER forgive SQUEENIX for squashing this fan-project.. they should have funded it but instead NO they destroyed it.
I'll never stop coming back to this.
It's fucking disgusting that the public could've had this for free and now nobody can.
That's what happens when money is the prime motivator. :/
They got stock holders to appease.
I would donate to a kickstarter project like this, and i'm pretty sure all CT fans over the world would support this as well.
This looks so awesome
wow I remembered this because people now asking for a Chrono trigger remake more often since FF7 just got released. I remember it looking good but wow this was 2004?! That's pretty impressive there are remakes nowadays that don't look as good as this
Really square... Really. I understand you had your reasons but this was a huge punch in the gut to your fans.
Such a shame that it was shut down, even after so many years I still belive we lost a wonderful game.
W H A N G
「NUT」下ォザ ayyyyyyyyyy

Oh man that updated title theme gave me goose bumps!
This project really is dead? No one had picked it up and continued on it? /:
Ah I remember way back when this was cancelled, such a sad shame that this will never see the light of day.
CHRONO TRIGER DESRVES a REMAKE how nice... ^_^ CHRONO TRIGGER & Chrono Cross are awesome games...
I remember seeing screenshots of this way back when. It was a huge disappointment when the project was shut down.
P.S. Thanks for making me look awesome!
Hey Grenn la Grenouille!
Have you ever found the Trésor Interdit?
Thank you Square Enix!
Don't worry we get FF 10 3 instead
Lt Ultima Great! Wonderful! ... but I think that Chrono Resurrection could have been more popular.
~Tatsu
Tatsu T. Koraeru I think he was being sarcastic there.
Fuck you Squeenix!
@@MisterSpeedStacking yeah, i hope square Enix goes to hell
This is so beautiful!
I wish Square Enix would stop being so selfish and release a HD remake of Chrono Trigger on Wii U and PS4. They keep reporting losses and wonder why. Hmmm... just release this game. It's a shame that the developers stopped development. The leader said that quote "it wasn't their game to make". And I can respect that though. It was very profound.

This song take the breath out of me, like a first love.. 2:20
WHANG brought me here.
You guys did a great job, I wanna play this game so bad you wouldn't even know ... Damn Squenix what're they thinking :'(
Maaaaah I love you guys :'((((
aaaaaaaaaaah!!! Such a huge project dammit :((
Your work is so awesome ='')
THIS NEEDS TO BE RESURRECTED FOR NINTENDO SWITCH
That would be awesome yes :D only if we could !
been about a year or so since i first watched this, and am only sadder at what could have been, and for the work that went into this labor of love. R.I.P.
I can't stop watching it... I'm so sad... I don't think I can't forgive Square-Enix. They're really screwing the company's history with the trash they're making and with this kind of decissions. You guys deserve all fans's respect.
Wait a minute! This was fan made! This is very impressive!!!
Love the theme song, and effort for this. Real childhood memory!!
Muito bom... ChronoTrigger precisa de um Remake ou continuação direta. 🥇🏆❤️🗡️
Okay, this is epic
Queria muito que esse projeto tivesse continuado, pena que a square se intrometeu :(
Código Secreto também
Square maldita
Holy hell, this looks awesome, I can't believe it!
Thank you !
Luis Martins
I have so much respect for you two. words cannot do it justice but i can console with you as a game developer, i am still in the process of making a mod for a game myself, Tiberium secrets for C@C tiberium wars... you're work is fantastic and im glad they at least looked into hiring you. please send me a PT message when and if you can, i'd like to talk =)
You just won a basket of E-cookies. ^^
Seymour13 Patents are the greater evil here, you know.
handofstand potato potato, all boils down to the same screwed up notion. ;)
Seymour13 No actually you're thinking of Anarchy or something similar, that's not what I was talking about.
This looks so good. The fact they were shut down hurts the very fabric of my soul.
The concept art looks like a 12 year old's DeviantArt account.
WOOOOW, Unbelievable, Amazing, GFX, Animation, Art Everything....
I want to cry :(((
That's not what happened in the original game.
