    I own a Ruger 9mm pc carbine , it is absolutely awesome weapon and fun to shoot. 95 percent of problems are operator problems and not the gun. A truly amazing weapon . Ruger knocked it out the park again. The Ruger 9mm carbine 5 Stars...

      I'd say the Ruger PC Carbine is more of a mid-tier option. It's better than a Hi-Point carbine or a Kel-Tec Sub2K, but it's not quite at the level of a Beretta CX4 or CZ Scorpion Evo. I'd also suggest it would be more reliable than the majority of AR platform 9s. I picked up an M LOK model for around $550 after tax, shipping and transfer fees and I love how solid and well built it feels.

    • @AICW
      @AICW 5 лет назад +7

      @@defmud80 The Hi-Point is not an option for those of us in slave states. The pistol grip gets it classified as an "assault weapon" and thus many dealers won't stock them. Even though Hi-Point offers an option with the kydex wrap around the grip, a lot of dealers won't bother ordering those.

    @donaldardell5742 5 лет назад +38

    A couple thoughts on your review: I was concerned when you refer to the PC Carbine as "this thing," it makes your review seem somewhat less than objective. Your criticism of the bolt lock system doesn't seem to provide an example of a "more modern" method to lock the bolt to the rear, when the Ruger blade/10/22 design is serviceable and well known to legions of 10/22 shooters. If you prefer the HK MP5 bolt lock, you'll remember it needs to be manually locked to the rear before an emergency reload, and then released to close not anywhere near as close to the trigger/safety as the PC Carbine. The Ruger PC Carbine's weight is comparable with other similar, or even lesser, quality pistol caliber carbines. The safety is maybe not what you're used to, say, in a AR-style pistol carbine and or an MP5, but very useful, and consistent with a Ruger 10/22 or many shotguns. And comparing a 5.3" barrel subgun to a 16.5" pistol carbine for any reason is not a valid comparison, and honestly, disingenuous. And... it's not a battle rifle, so that's another invalid comparison. And the Ruger PC carbine sights are awesome, especially in concert with the stock. Additionally, your mag prices are off, there isn't a real handgun/pistol that takes an Scorpion EVO mag, and the Scorpion EVO, is a LOT less carbine for a lot more money unless you really like plastic. How would you feel about a Charger-style "pistol" version?

    • @bradleyweiss1089
      @bradleyweiss1089 5 лет назад +3

      Donald Ardell I don’t know if mentioned it because I own a PC carbine and like it alot but I couldn’t stand his review. He was all over the place with his thoughts and comparisons. Anyway you can switch the charging handle to the left and it works out perfectly. You pull the bolt back with the left hand and lock the bolt back with the right index finger. Finally. An awesome set up. And have always liked the modern cross bolt safety.

    • @lazor222
      @lazor222 3 года назад +6

      Older review and comment but I agree. Almost every review where the person doesn't like it of either the pc carbine or charger they basically seem to just go on about how the controls are not AR like, and that it's not modern and won't be very familiar to people. Completely overlooking the fact that it's essentially a 9mm 10/22, and A LOT of us started on 10/22's. I got my pc charger exactly a year ago, and though I'd become more familiar with the AR platform, I felt right at home with the charger. It also seems guys complain about the charging handle and mag release not being on the right side for them, and on the charger, the brace folding the wrong way. They may even acknowledge the fact that all this can be changed in less then 10 minutes but refuse to do it and instead count it as a negative..... idk just seems this platform gets unfairly looked at often. If you want an ar in 9mm buy an ar in 9mm, if you want an mp5 buy an mp5, same for an mpx or scorpion. Don't buy Rugers platform and then complain that it's not one of those

    The Ruger has a huge advantage over your mp5 clone, and Scorpions and similar guns. Its a *long gun* and in a lot of states that means it has little to no regulation compared to pistols. Using Texas law for a example:
    You don't need a LTC to carry it, even concealed in backpack. For a pistol you would.
    You can open carry it pretty much anywhere.
    You can have it openly displayed in your car. Pistols must remain concealed.
    Then on the federal level, the only reason all the pistol carbines are popular now is because of the ATFs ruling on pistol braces. A ruling passed because Trump told the ATF to lay off. As soon as a Democrat is president, I guarantee you that pistol brace ruling is going to get reversed. Then its back to cheek holds if we're lucky, or they may get banned all together, like bump stocks did.
    The Ruger is a very safe bet.

I buy many weapons, with the possibility of complete fuckery in the back of my mind. And a weapon like this is priceless. There will be nothing like being able to hand a friend, neighbor or family member a complete system in the form of a Glock 17, PC9 and 20 mags, all for around a $1000. That's fucking golden. Don't let anyone tell you anything different. This weapon was brought back out, to provide versatility and function, and it fits the bill, VERY well. I’ve only had mine to the range once so far. I fired exclusively American Eagle ball ammo in 115 and 147 grain weights, and I fired both bullet weights suppressed and unsuppressed. I used both 17 round and 33 round Glock magazines. I *did* experience 3 or 4 malfunctions out of about 150 rounds fired; but it is worth noting that they ONLY happened with the 33 round fun sticks. Also, they happened when I was resting the weight of the gun on the magazine base while shooting from a bench. And lastly, they didn’t start happening until the gun was good and dirty - which was largely the result of shooting suppressed most of the time.
    I also own a 11.5” SBR in 5.56 which is my primary home defense firearm - which I also suppress. I didn’t buy the PC9 as a replacement for the SBR. I bought it for something to throw in my "emergencies box" which I keep in the back of my SUV. I bought it specifically because (a) it takes the same mags/ammo as my carry pistols; and (b) because it doesn’t look all scary tactical to the casual (and likely uninformed) observer. It’s basically both a "plinker of opportunity" and a "get me home in a SHTF” gun that will pack just a little bit more punch (by virtue of velocity) than my EDC carry pistol. I’m a gimpy old man, and consequently an avoider of gun fights if at all possible.
    I *also* own a 1943 Inland M1 carbine, and while it isn’t magazine or ammo compatible with my sidearm of choice, it is far more powerful, lighter, more accurate, and more reliable than the PC9. If I weren’t afraid of the possibility of having it stolen (it's nearly all original and quite valuable), I would use it as a truck gun instead, and would maybe have not have even bought the Ruger. But that is the role that I see owners of the PC9 buying it to fulfill - whether they had thought about it or not. Decades ago, thousands of Americans kept a M1 carbine behind their pickup truck's seat, or in the trunk of their car, for exactly that reason....opportunistic plinking/small game hunting, or for a "something arises" situation. And that’s my intended use for my PC9.

      that sounds pretty trash, i've got 300-400 rounds through my freakin micro 9mm Kahr CM9 (which is unbelievably tiny, like almost LCP sized) without a single malfunction. And I've never cleaned any gun I own yet TBH lol. Also got 300-400 so far through my Hi Point 9mm carbine with admittedly one malfunction in the first few rounds only. Since then perfect, and that was with the factory 10 round mag, no malfunctions with the redball 20 round mag. And that's a 249 carbine. And I dont ever plan to clean it lol, I'll just shoot some spray lube in the bolt assembly every so often (the hi point is said to be a bear to take apart and a lot of people follow the spray into the bolt never clean method with it).
      honestly dont know if i've just had good luck but I almost never have any malfunctions with any of my semi-autos. Even my tiny LCP .380 and CM9, in hundreds of rounds in each (thousands overall between them). I've had like one malfunction with my LCP (very early, on the last round of a mag) one with my hi point, one with my PSA AR that I hesitate to even count as it was like literally the 2nd time i ever pulled the trigger with it and was a really weird malfunction, it literally just airballed and didn't pick up a round from the mag somehow, never an issue since) pretty much none ever with any other semi auto I've owned, including my Glock 19 I've had 10+ years...and as I said I've yet to clean any of my guns (I dont put thousands of rounds through them, just got back into shooting the last 5 years and ammo is too expensive!)

    Different strokes my friend. For ban states, this is a good affordable option into PCC's. It's a good option for folks that aren't trying to be in a local operator cadre. This thing is selling well, and will only do better once more mag wells and caliber options come out. If Ruger was smart, they hang up the Mini 14 and put those production resources into the PC Carbine line since they already offer actual AR's. As I write this, Ruger has just dropped the pistol grip chassis for the PC Carbine. Things are only getting better, as it after market is taking to the PC Carbine as well.

    I own one of these and researched before buying it and found some flaws it has like cheaper steel parts that wear sooner then they should but there's a bunch of aftermarket parts like extractors and the like in an A2 tool steel for cheaps. Also the ejector tends to bend with people that own AR rifles because they have a habit of slamming the magazine in the magwell which bends it causing the ejector to catch on the bolt when firing and causes stove piping after about 1000 - 1500 rds out of the box. Overall I'm very happy with it and it rings the iron perfectly. I'm in my 50s and I'm not going to be running around shooting Communists in the jungle anytime soon so this is perfect for plinking outdoors and home defense.

    Thanks for an honest review. That’s a nice change of pace. I’m still going to apply for a firearms license for one I Sweden were I live.
    Over here all gun ownership is regulated and the semiautomatics are hard to get a license for. In my case I would apply for a hunting license for a 9mm PCC. The law stipulates that a hunting rifle must have at least a 18” barrel, if it’s a semi all types of folding and collapsing stocks are outlawed (if they produced that way in the factory) and the particular model may not have been issued as a military service weapon.
    Almost all PCCs fall outside of those criteria’s. I would love to be able to buy a MP5 or Vector but it’s not an option to me we’re I live. The Ruger PCC is already taken Sweden buy storm, best to apply for a firearms license before they outlaw it.

    i've got a hi point 9mm carbine, wonder your thoughts on that. got it at a gun show for 249 new. i knew what i was getting into, which is it's a bit crude but goes bang every time.
    i actually love it as a plinker with the redball 20 round mags. i have had one malfunction in i dunno, 300 rounds? it was early on, and could have been a misloaded mag, not worried about it. i slapped my trs 25 red dot on it which i got from amazon a couple years ago for a whopping 40 bucks, the total package is theoretically under 300 and i love shooting it, such a fun plinker. the trs 25 pairs really well with it being cheap, light and compact.
    i thought about the pc 9 but it was twice as much (so, less of an impulse purchase). i dont like the boring styling of the pc9, and like you mentioned the heavy weight.
    i was also looking at the beretta cx4, it seems very hard to find, maybe even discontinued, and is more towards the 700 dollar range.
    now that you mention it i want a scorpion evo. they run expensive for my tastes at 900 dollars. however i mean i recently bought a $800 phone, so i guess i could spend that on a gun someday....
    the main value of a 9mm carbine imo though is the cheap ammo, while giving you centerfire pop. i can get 100 rounds of green and white box type 9mm ammo at wal mart for 17-18 dollars. it's like halfway between .22lr and everything else in cost, makes great plinking round. for whatever reason i just dont enjoy shooting 22lr that much, it doesn't give me that pop and feel of a centerfire. yankee marshal mentioned not enjoying shooting 22 too so i know i'm not alone. i like shooting 22lr in my ruger wrangler because it's single action so it's inherently fun, that's about it.

I also shot a hoge poge of hollow point self defence ammo that I have collected over the last few years. I had zero malfunctions. All cycled perfectly. Groups at 50 yards were 3 inches consistently. I only used the SR9 magazine that came with the rifle, 17 rounds. I love it
