This was done in my homeland too. I'm from Venezuela, which is pretty much Latin America's version of North Korea in all but name. For years I was saving up money so I could flee the country, only for the government to render that money useless by slicing off five zeroes off of our currency. Effectively making everyone's savings be worth pennies under the new denomination. It ruined nearly 3 years of hard savings but I learned my lesson and so did the rest of the country. Most transactions are done in dollars these days, and when I resumed saving money, I would exchange it, at outrageously inflated rates, to US Dollars to preserve their value.
It was worth it, I eventually managed to break free by the tail end of 2019
interesting
Why do you type in perfect US English? Impressive.
@CableTvTomato Comunist states don't work partly because of the international sanctions and media demonización perpetrated by the US as a result of not paying tributes to them (politically speaking).
I'm not saying comunism Is the answer, nor I like it. But I realize what happens when you deviate from the influence of the imperium.
@CableTvTomato well to be fair thier has never been a communist state to be allowed to exist and survive on its own without capitalist powers trying to destroy it.
@CableTvTomato the only communist power to ever attempt that was the ussr, china is not communist.

"Their genius is self-sufficiency".
"Three million dead in the famine".
Okay.
George Wilson well, people need time to learn and adapt
That was in the 90s, and it's one of the major events that forced them to become very self-sufficient. Nowadays the only claims of starvation in North Korea you'll see are in clickbaity titles and propaganda pieces - even according to the CIA World fact book they are actually fairing much better than other countries with similar GDP per capita levels...
Edit: Of course there is scarcity of certain goods in North Korea, part of it due to the regime's not-giving-a-fuck-about-the-people "military first" policy and part from international sanctions, but scarcity of specific goods is a much more mild issue than, you know, mass starvation...
It's always the CIA. Those pesky little spooks. I hope you are not defending the Kims for free, little buddy.
@@georgewilson7432 those are facts even the CIA, the biggest enemies of the Kim regime, accept. If you do not, you are the one denying reality here my friend. Nobody is "defending the Kims", but there is a lot of stupid propaganda about North Korea out there on the Internet and few facts. As I said, if you think they are experiencing mass starvation nowadays you have just bought into that propaganda...
GEORGE YOUR AN ABSOLUTE IDIOT YOUR GREED IS A DIRECT CAUSE OF THEIR SUFFERING AND ANYONE IN THE WEST THAT IS TOO BLIND OR STUPID TO UNDERSTAND THAT FACT NEEDS TO GO GET A FUKING BRAIN AND A BETTER SENSE OF MORALS

One of the only non Chinese speakers who pronounces yuan correctly. Yuan= yu-en. I appreciate that.
I honestly really really hope that one day, a revolution happens in North Korea. The citizen's will, at some point, have a revolution. The sooner, the better, but of course in a realistic view point, it won't be happening anytime soon. I of course could be wrong, there is always that chance. I just hope someday the citizen's form a small group that begins the start of a revolution. It only takes one human soul, to start something that can make history, and grab the world's eyes and hearts, that one soul, grabbing the attention and gaining the trust of others to finally want change. Will spark something the entire world will be watching in hope of good news. The world would hear and see possible killings of the innocent. It takes guts, blood, and tears to make change, a change for the history books to be remembered by the human race.
It won't happen. the neighbors will prevent it
