      Honestly the interesting thing about these casinos in singapore are how they implemented ways to ensure singaporeans do not have to bare the external cost (9:45), but letting only allowing foreigners and really insistent and financially abled singaporeans to carry on - with the $100+ per entry, family members being able to bar entry, and also not mentioned - if the person entering has prior records of gambling issues (gone rehab/illegal gambling - in singapore you can only buy lotteries and sports bets legally from Sg Pools, run by the government's Tote Board. Online gambling is illegal also), and also public servants and civil servants (think of Law enforcements, etc) are not allowed to enter casinos for personal matters (ie not raid/arrest) unless permission is granted from higher ups. Also those filing personal bankruptcy cant go in, iirc
      Singapore really really wants to earn money and tourism via gambling, but wants to make sure the demand is not among Singaporeans so that the external costs fall onto foreign economies instead of singapore's economy.

    From a local's POV, we are usually too broke/stingy to gamble there (instead gambling at home, which is cheaper and more convenient), and the shops there are too expensive for us to want to go there any way. So that's how it's "sanitised". It traps tourists whole keeping citizens out.

    Your mention Singapore contradicts in its policies, eg, gambling and stop at 2 kids policies. But a lot of these policies are constantly reviewed for its practicality. Why in the 70s, the govt wants to stop at 2, cos there is not enough educational, housing, amongst other infrastructure to support a growing population. However, as years gone by, infrastructure is ready and people these days hv so much lesser kids, maybe one. The good thing about this govt is it never too ashamed to tweet its policy. Casino too, yes, it's bad but for the long haul, to boost tourism, it has to make a choice in view of its limited land size and natural offerings. At the same time out in place systems to manage habits of locals, eg $100 for locals whom wants to gamble. Even without the home casino, the locals are already driving into Malaysia and onboard cruise ships to gamble. This govt is very practical and it's about the survival of this tiny island which most people think it would not hv survived after being dispelled from Malaysia.

I remember enter the cruise with my relatives and it start it's journey from Pasir Gudang Port in Johore, spending one night gambling in the middle of the sea, then the cruise will go back to the Port early in the morning and we go home. Yes, it's weird.
    The inside of the cruise looks so beautiful and rich, full of mahagony woods interior like those Titanic ship, only different is it is full with gambling machine. And i remember that i'm buying a chocolate in that ship using a "dollar" currency, but i can't tell if it was Singapore dollar.

Whenever an outsider with a fresh perspective based on what they have observed in their own (I believe more freedom loving country that actually gives a shit about human rights to self determination), many in Singapore are just too quickly jump to the conclusion that they are being hyperbolic and misleading. Much like the allegory of the cave, Singaporeans have become too restless to fight for change and as a result will never see the sun even when told of its existence. It's still not ready and every couple months or so they announce they have moved the planned ready date couple months further. Thankfully it's mostly the French that have been paying for it (since a French company is mostly at fault), but even that deal is ending

    Singaporean POV
    Back in the day, there were occasional ads on TV that showed the horrors of gambling addiction, the dangerous loan sharks and their terrifying methods of getting their money back.
    The fear and sadness of those affected is displayed very effectively
    Even now, as a young adult, I fear the prospect of losing everything to gambling addiction. I have grown to be very thrifty with my expanses and grown to understand the neccessity of money planning

      @Jason Carter you are reading too deep into this. Normal people won't go to gaylang to gamble. That's shady af. But I have been to Las Vegas to burn away my money. In SG, if I ever want to play around abit, I would probably go to MBS. But the entrance fee discouraged me. yet I'm not so desperate to gamble to go to those shady places in gaylang. Most non-hardcore people who gamble for fun thinks like that, I believe. That's the message.

    • @lordchinchin8924
      @lordchinchin8924 4 года назад

      @Jason Carter Bruh, the same is true for every country in the world. Illegal gambling and prostitution exsits in all countries. If u hate Singapore just because it is too clean for, i guess South Africa prostitution is more up your alley? This vid is more on how Singapore sanitized LEGAL gambling, NOT ILLEGAL gambling. Dimwit.

    • @lordchinchin8924
      @lordchinchin8924 4 года назад

      @Jason Carter Ok, suit yourself. No need to tell the whole world how the cleanest country in the world is dirtier than sewage. People might mistake you for an uneducated caveman.

    • @lordchinchin8924
      @lordchinchin8924 4 года назад

      @Jason Carter At least i do not need to fear getting robbed in my own house, getting shot in schools, afraid of hospitals bankrupting my bank accounts, fearing that racists cunt could burn my house down without recourse, fearing police corruption, fearing my boss burning me out and spitting me out into the streets, fearing that every other race is out to get you, etc etc.
      I'd choose living a long happy life than having freedom like in the US. Coz living in a "free" society that makes u to fear for your life in every waking moment ain't my idea of a utopia.
      But sure, good for you i guess, coz freedom of speech sure is needed to put food on the table and roof over yer head amirite?

    I just got back from singapore after a 2 month stay.
    People talk about how "clean" singapore is. Yeah you won't find gum marks on the sidewalk, but you get off the tourist ares and go to the dorms and government housing and you see piles of cigs, piles of litter, just like ever other place in the world.
    I did a full hike around 2 of the lakes and both had a good share of litter. The best photo i took happened to have a plastic bottle in the dead middle of the lake arm....
    Also, you know what locals to avoid those fees for gambling? Just gable at home. Took me no time to find a group of people playing texas holdem... during covid times 8 people tiny flat, putting 10s and 100s down every hand.
