That woman is the epitome of bravery! I’m more convinced than ever, after watching this interview, that I’m so thankful to have been born in and live in the United States of America.
What a way to meet your husband! Incredible living history filled with endurance, perseverance, love, commitmentl & intelligence . This lady & her family deserve a happy life filled with prosperity & joy.
In my opinion , this video should be REQUIRED VIEWING for ALL AMERICANS especially those under 35 . As an older American , I feel like we , as a society have become EXTREMELY SELFISH & GREEDY . So instead of complaining about your 10 year old vehicle or how you need a new designer _______ ( fill in the blank ) please think about the fact that this woman wasn't even given decent shoes to wear while working outdoors in the cold . Worse yet she also worked in the same conditions without ANY SHOES !!! This is what true life struggles look like --- NOT the miniscule issues that we carry on about . Owning a MOUNTAIN of objects is NOT going to bring happiness . I have learned over the decades of my life to find GRATITUDE whenever possible , even when facing a difficult situation . I say to myself -- somebody somewhere has it worse than I . It keeps my perspective on a reasonable level AND I stop wallowing in self pity !! I just wish that more people would think and act with similar attitudes .😁
I totally agree. I'm middle aged, 37, grew up poor and was abused from the time I can remember. By everyone in the home. I had to struggle to just get a career and a vehicle. I go to work and people complain about having to be there, and then there's me, who escaped addiction, escaped an abusive man, and then had to dig myself out to get through schooling as a single mom, and I thank my lucky stars I get to be at that job. I feel blessed every single day that I made it through and get to do what I do (EMT). I still live paycheck to paycheck, but my son and I have what we need and we aren't abused. And I'm always surrounded by people complaining, that grew up in supportive homes with parents that paid their way through school and cheered them on the whole time. Not even working with sick and dieing people every single day gets through to these young people. It blows my mind.
I think it’s ridiculous that people like you genuinely believe younger people aren’t aware of this issue and only care about getting new cars and designer items. I actually feel sorry for you and your generation, it’s not the younger generations that aren’t informed it’s yours. We are constantly soaking up information, online, like right now. And when we do, you and anyone else your age makes fun of us for doing it, you all say things like “social media is ruining young people” and “go and play outside instead” then have the nerve to be on the same exact apps as us, saying this should be required viewing especially for those “under 35” like hello? we’re already here watching things like this, having to deal with your nasty asses and nasty attitudes towards us when we do, maybe it’s you that’s worried about a 10 yr old car and designer handbags but the only things that young people I know are worried about or people in their 30’s are worried about are trying to survive the cost of living and being a living embodiment of what it means to create a kinder safer world for everyone in it, don’t run around making weird statements about entire generations you are so obviously completely out of touch with.
As parents, it is our job to not only teach our children of the struggles of others in the world, but to teach our children gratitude for the fact they were lucky enough to be born in the US.
This should be required viewing for all teenagers. No, I must correct that, it should be required viewing for all Americans. It is hard to believe this kind of life exists in the twenty-first century.
As parents we just need to do our jobs and educate our children. All my children understand the struggles others endure across the world. It does not need to be mandated by the government. Parents just need to do their jobs as parents.
Brave soul, thank you for sharing your story. You are smart and clever and didn’t give up. These are the qualities that build democracy, that build healthy societies. Welcome to the West. You and your bold family are so very needed. Blessings.
You’re a wonderful really brave woman and I wish you every happiness and joy welcome to my country of the United Kingdom. You are very welcome here and I hope you have a wonderful life. Lots of hugs Ashley xxxxxx
I think people around the world should hear about this woman's story everyone around the world needs to hear this nobody knows how awful North Korea is
Listening to you share your experiences was very compelling. I admire your courage and tenacity in facing those challenges head-on. Your unwavering determination and resilience are truly inspiring, showing a strength of character that is both rare and commendable. Your ability to persevere in the face of adversity is something I deeply respect.
Incredible story, I believe that UN should build communities to reach people in North Korea to support them since for a human it is quite unfair to struggle with Chinese and North Korean goverments and folks at the same time.
How moving, and she I extremely brave, really hope the rest of her life is a happy, and a healthy one,as well that her leg gives her little pain from now on.☺️Bless her ,& her family.
May your life be blessed with happiness and love. We're so spoiled in the UK by comparison, and your story inspires to appreciate what we have here, freedom and liberty, the most priceless attributes. It also makes me see the North Korean regime for what it is-Orwellian and crushingly repressive
Some of the comments on this video are deeply concerning. She is a brave, strong, and beautiful soul ❤ people really have no idea the horrors others face in this world.
You sound as tho' you live in a country where weapons are freely available, another point of view is that lack of availability of weapons means that others do not have weapons of course.
I served my country, stationed at Camp Hovey,South Korea, the people were beautiful and grateful for our presence,I would do it all over, met some of the most humble and caring people in my life.
I'm in awe of every North Korean defector. I am truly humbled by your bravery and determination. How did you get your son? I believe he was living with your "mother in law". Did she just hand the child over to you? I pray that your brother is still alive 😢😢🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. I can't imagine the agony of having to leave him, it's beyond horrendous 😢
What an amazing story of perseverance and strength. I am happy she is free and has her son. I will never again judge immigrants bc you never know their story.
This lady's story is horrendous but her courage and determination to get out of North Korea is inspirational and amazing. No matter how we complain in the West this lady's terrifying experiences highlights how fortunate we really are not to have be under a brainwashing dictatorship in poverty, starvation and only a one in thousand chance of escape. How awful Communist China is running young girls and woman to sell them. Turning informer is built into China's unfortunate workers from the cradle, no one is safe there, even privileged government officials.
Thank you for sharing this story. I'm so glad this sweet lady escaped, and with her son. I hope one day she can be reunited with her brother. I pray for North Korea, that one day freedom and peace will become a reality. 💗
I was completely riveted by her story! What an incredible woman! If they made a movie about her life, it would be amazing and I would not want to miss it! More people..especially Americans need to hear about how horrible totalitarian regimes are! I so hope she reunites with her brother someday… I am so amazed by her bravery.. WOW!
The guy at the border helping but contacting someone to sell her on as a wife 😢 the last words with her brother, my heart. 3 years ago and this has gone on so long .. what will the icc do and why are they not recognised in Geneva Convention what ...
I agree, but fortunately most people like that will grow up, gain more wisdom and learn better. They are uneducated people who don't realize we are a Constitutional republic, not a democracy, and they've never had real life struggles so they try to find meaning in their lives by creating desperate struggles in their own imaginations. Plus, they also find like-minded people, uneducated like themselves, and in that they find community and feel like they belong somewhere.
If you’re reading this comment you’ve already been immensely blessed with an abundance of love, wealth, luck, health and joy! I’m so proud of you for surviving everything you’ve been through! Love and Peace for everyone

What a strong will woman fighting for her freedom...
