  • Life in North Korea is kind of a mystery. Kim Jong-un is very restrictive on what can be shared with the rest of the world, so true information is difficult to find, but we did our best to dig up what life is like living in North Korea in this animated documentary.

You're not wrong. Economically and logistically, N.K. couldn't maintain a prolonged war with any of the worlds greater powers. Especially if China strait up cuts them off. But having such a large standing army means they can't be threatened easily in the short term ether. You couldn't just wander in and take the place over. I don't think any sane power would even try that. Up front losses would be prohibitive. It'd be far smarter to just blockade the country out. Their navy isn't nearly as impressive as their standing army. The sad reality of doing that would be untold civilian suffering.
Apart from that. The military is more about parading N.K. nationalism. The narrative that's been preached since the beginning is that N.K. needs no one and that nobody else compares. Having a huge army to show off feels powerful.

If it weren't for Russia and China, they'd have been invaded already.
Shame on the leader of Russia and the leader of China for that. Cut them as a military Ally or the blood of that country will be on your country and when the season is over JESUS CHRIST THE LORD will deal with you accordingly for you assistance in wickedness on the earth.

Barbara Demick’s book “Nothing to Envy” is a beautifully written narrative of the experiences of about 6 North Korean escapees who were able to get to Korea, mostly in the 1990s/early 2000s. It is their stories, told to Demick who was the LA Times S. Korea correspondent for many years. It is really moving and paints a vivid, but not sensationalized, picture of the experiences of these people…different social classes, but all from the same area (very close to the China border) and the price they also had to pay for leaving. One thing left out of this documentary was that many, many women who escaped into China were s*x trafficked, and that is a terrible tragedy. I believe it is quite difficult for the average person to get out of N. Korea now as China has stiffened up the guarding of the border, and there are very few refugees getting to South Korea. Keep in mind, that China deports all North Koreans back to North Korea if they are caught, hence the complicated, dangerous and expensive ways to escape and get to a S. Korean embassy. My best wishes for the people of N. Korea to live in freedom.

I was in North Korea 🇰🇵 last year, the only city I was allowed to be in was Pyongyang, and I had a tour guide with me at all times and we followed a government approved itinerary that started with visiting the statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. The point I’m making is nobody see’s any other part of the nation simply because the Government only lets you see what they want you to see. I’m now planning a trip to South Korea 🇰🇷 for next year.

One thing is not accurate. Defectors usually go through Thailand and not Vietnam. If they went to Vietnam it is very likely they will be sent back to China to go back to NK. Most defectors come to Thailand and walk directly into a police to be arrested so that they will be sent back to "Korea" or South Korea.

Nah man, those people never lived a real life. They think that's happiness. Some people who escaped say that in North Korea you had less preoccupations. Your main cocern is to stay alive, all the other things don't really matter. They grow up thinking theirs is the best country of all and some families with escapee children don't believe their kids on their stories about the outside world. They just can't think anything but "how lucky I am to live here". It's so sad.

    • @m0rrk

@@idiotsandwich1045, I agree completely. They are forced to pretend to be happy, they want nobody to know what actually happens in North Korea, same goes to residents in the North finding things outside of the country, as more people will leave finding out that life is better in South Korea, or in less extremist communist countries.

I think the reason why tourism keeps growing is because of the talks with Russia, China, and other countries. Not to mention that people are curious, they want to know what is going on! There are more safe ways of doing that, such as watching videos like these. I highly recommend the documentaries from National Geographic.

I remember watching a documentary about North Korea. They were following around a guide the entire time. It was just a giant production put on by the North Koreans for the film maker and the film maker said it himself. They brought him to one of the factories and he said, they are trying to prove to me that they successfully produce their own products. They were trying to show him that North Korea is completely self sufficient and reliant. They brought him into a store where there was only a few people in a huge store. He said those people are likely actors pretending to shop. They brought him to their place to sing karaoke but he said he was certain that the place wasn’t even his guides and all the people there were just putting a show in for him to make it look like people in North Korea enjoy themself. He said, all in all, one big scam. He also said all the people were extremely thin. He said l, you can tell that every day there is likely torture. Pray for the souls of North Korea. Pray they find their way out and find peace and freedom.
