Such funny timing... both the wife's F150 and my F250 started doing it this month. Dealer changed her hood latch, a little annoyed its not covered under warranty for a 2019. Mine has only done it once this week, kind of waiting it out...
Thank you so much for this video! I have this problem and the alarm did wake me up in the middle of the night while camping! it was during a rain storm and the people next to me said they didn’t hear it but anyway my temporary fix was to unplug the horn, and it’s still unplugged and today i got ‘hood ajar’ messages and haven’t opened the hood in weeks. Guess i know what it needs now.
You can also test your existing latch with an ohm meter. When they go bad, you’ll get intermittent circuit when you wiggle it. Had my 17 original latch replaced under warranty.
Have this issue on my '16 F150. I've had times driving when I would get a Hood Ajar Msg on my dash and alarm going off at 3am. Looked at the mechanism and its unusually rusty. Unsure why that would be as the vehicle has lived in Texas all is life. Great video, this confirms my suspicions.
Mine has started going off in my 2018 more often now and it's always when I am sleeping or at work and it's driving my neighbors crazy. I'll have to check mine and see if that's the fix. I was wondering if I could plug into my truck with ForScan and disable it in the software so I don't have to purchase a new hood latch.
Mine was having this issue but the fleet service didn’t want to get it fixed. I disconnected the harness and saw that it defaulted to an open alarm. I cut the wires from the latch, soldered them together and reconnected the connectors. Seems to do the trick
Is that still working for you? I don't see the need for a hood latch alarm and i was going to do that to my 2015 F350.Could you give a little more detail on how you did it? I do not want to buy a latch.
@@doug3805 if you want to do it, just open your hood and look for the connector going to your hood latch, mine was just left of the latch itself. Cut the wires that go from the connector to your latch. You could just use a wire nut to connect them together. Then tape over the nut and use a zip tie to hold it out of the way. Definitely fixed my issue
I like when after we’re done working on allumidutys and the hood says hood open even though it didn’t have any issues when the customer brought it in. We were replacing those 5-6 times a week a couple of months ago.
Yes. You will need to look up forscan DOT org & get some computer things. We offer remote programming but you will need to email us. Links are in description & about tab on channel
Is this a similar issue on a 2012 F250? I haven't gotten a hood ajar warning but my alarm has been going off like crazy all throughout the day and night
Is it possible to lower the sensitivity of an alarm? Something noisy drives by and the alarm goes off. Thinking its the vibrations from stereo bass, and big trucks...
Have a 2019 alumiduty f350 6.7 and there is a high pitch alarm whistle coming from around the dash as some kind of warning or something. It goes off after a couple mins of driving or so. Not sure what it would be
Mine would go off so randomly until I found the dial under the dash to turn down the sensitivity. Once I turned that sucker down to half way haven’t had an issue since. But man I could fart next to it and set it off. A gust of wind would set it off. A fly landing on it would set it off. It was nuts. At camp sites with our trailer I would rush out there thinking someone was in it or messing with it. It was on the max setting before I turned that sucker down.
I have a similar problem my alarm is malfunctioning and turning on the lights on the inside and outside and does this periodically until I turn on the truck. I do have a door ajar message that does not seem to go away even when the door is closed correctly. What should I do at this point?
My 2018 F150’s alarm kept sounding so I turned off the interior sensors and it seems to have 86’d it. I have a new hood latch on the way to solve the Hood Ajar message. All easy fixes. Otherwise, this truck gives me NO trouble at all.
Yea, my alarm goes off randomly. The other day I was driving down the road and the hood ajar light came on my dash. Stopped and opened and shut the hood and it would not go off. I continued to drive home and the light went off by itself. Is this under warranty at 77,000 miles? 2019 6.7. Nice video. Thanks
Ok, I did all that, new latch assembly, and it still failing with Hood Ajar alarms when parked after short drive, and in the sun, ambient temperatures must be above 80 too. Doesn't fail in winter, took 3 summers to confirm its a heat related issue...
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod if you really want to know......... Beginning in 2019 the Alarm system has sensing alarm events that have followed a similar pattern. Due to these false alarms and other issues, I found finding the cause/ causes of the alarm events required a OBDII Reader. Adjusting the stops down, as the Dealership did, has no affect on the switch what so ever, but shows lack of knowledge as switch is completely isolated from the Hood’s height. Service Advisor also said the Alarm went off while he was standing next to the truck, but said that wasn’t an issue.?. May 2022, Visit Yosemite, 82 degrees. Bypass the sensor. One and done.
Very common and a dab of dielectric grease on the micro switch plunger helps stave off any dirt and moisture ingress.
