Yes! Far from the Madding Crowd directed by Schlesinger is a perfect evocation of the novel. And the soundtrack and cinematography are superb. When I traveled to Dorset, I was able to track down all of the filming locations. Maiden Castle (not a castle but a prehistoric site) outside Dorechester was the place where they filmed the scene of Terence Stamp's character showing off his swordplay, with the light gleaming on the blade.
This is terrific, Gavin. I loved your discussion of Pip meeting Miss Havisham. I have also never read any Trollope. I don't know how or why that is, but I feel like I've missed out on someone I should have encountered somewhere by now. I have just bought The Warden because several people have said that that's a good place to start. Really enjoyed this video, Gavin.
Great responses. I have just started enjoying Trollope, I’ve only read two though 😊 I really must read Great Expectations and David Copperfield, my Dickens reading is very limited - spent years deliberately avoiding him due to school 😂. I also must reread King Solomon’s Mines. Fab video 😊
I reread King Solomon's Mines fairly recently, when I decided to attempt to read all of Haggard's fiction. It stalled, as these things always do with me, albeit next on the list is my favourite Haggard book, Nada the Lily.
Never heard of King Solomon's Mines but you have me intrigued! Of course you're allowed to cheat (no Victober police here) and that adaptation sounds great.
Loved this! Added King Solomon’s Mines to my future reading.
Thanks. Hope a 40 year old recommendation stands up :)
@ I’m sure it will!

Nice! Hope you didn’t drive any sheep of the cliffs..
@@GenreBooks23 I refrained. But I did dance with some cows...

Thanks Pat- I will have to take the Trollope plunge next year!

Thanks Debs. I definitely have gaps in my Dickens reading too..

Ooh, I’ve not read that one. Next for me will be Ayesha!

Thanks! H. Rider Haggard is great fun to read: completely overblown adventure tales :)
