I only have one used bookstore here nowadays. But I do enjoy it and go about twice a month. I know nothing about how they do credit as I've never done it. Very interesting hearing about your used bookstore experiences compared to mine.
It's a shame we are losing so many of these shops, but Mr Bezos needs his rocket money I suppose...
@@GenreBooks23 Yes. I think mine were lost more due to the pandemic. Or at least that was the nail in the coffin anyway.
First, I love that you are already planning for the new year. Oh! Congratulations on your over 500 subscribers. 🤗 Second, I like that you also have a spreadsheet printed out. I was going over mine as I was listening to your video. I have to run. I'll have to come back and finish the video.
Thanks! Stuff looks better printed out :)
Hilarious 🤣. This is a fun tag. Thanks for tagging me, I shall look forward to this one. Loved your answers. Organisation can certainly be an issue and credit, what’s that? I’m certainly up for a Hay on Wye meet up 👍🏼
Thanks! Yes, credit - I don’t think the Waterstones card would cut the mustard- not that I spend that much on new books…
Excellent.
Cheers!
Your description of the organization--or lack thereof--in your favorite used book shop was very humorous. It's amazing that you are able to find anything at all. Sadly, I don't have any used bookstores anywhere near me. We used to have both an independent book shop and a used book shop in town, and both have closed. It's very sad.
Well you will need to make the pilgrimage to Hay-on-Wye! I could buy a years worth in 3 days:) I’ll blame all the bookshop closures on CriminOlly: too many people on Read What You Own..
Ok, this one's made for me! Thanks for the tag!
You’re welcome, look forward to your responses!
I’ll watch this soon (hopefully). But I’m flummoxed to find that I’m not subscribed to you. Either I dreamt that I subscribed, or RUclips unsubscribed me…
Odd, but you’re back now :)
Poul Anderson fan here too! Didn't know it was his birthday, great books!
RUclips must be sending these out late, it was yesterday:). On the bright side, today is Fred Pohl’s birthday!
Looks like RUclips eliminated my comment for some reason. It was merely to say that I found "The Complete Northanger Horrid Novel Collection (9 Books of Gothic Romance and Horror)" Kindle Edition. The UK version is £1.49. You can buy them separately, but why pay more?
Indeed - I thinks that’s the one I got. Had to buy it before Read What You Own in case it drags on!
Thank you for this. I had no idea. Happy Birthday to him!
You’re welcome!
Great progress and some fabulous books there. Really enjoyed this wrap up. You always give wonderful suggestions that I want to add to my pile of possibilities 😊
Thanks Debs! Think you’ll be overtaking me soon though :)
I think the greatest mystery of Scattered Bodies is Burton's moustache, why was he not allowed to keep it? In book 2 I wonder if Mark Twain will be as miffed.
Maybe the lost ‘taches are what they are questing for!
Looks like you’re making some excellent progress! I need to read more Asimov.
Thanks! Have you read the Robots books?
@ I’ve only read I, Robot. But, I loved it.
A Korean Miss Marple?! That's something I have to see! It looks like you have some great plans laid out for next year.
Thanks - yes, it's an anime series (is it still anime if it's Korean) with both Marple and Poirot!
Fabulous plans. Glad the bookshelf tours are ready to go, I enjoy my weekly fix 😊. I’m so with you on the idea of joining in book events but doing your own thing as well and your ideas sound great. I think I’m also doing all the group read as you mentioned. Once again, many congrats on the 500 subs. I wish you many more to come 😊
Thanks Debs - looking forward to the group read!
The tote bag of peril is a fun idea! I've only begun assembling ideas and plans for next year.
Thanks - adding an element of randomness to the proceedings is (so far) fun..
First of all, congratulations. I'm happy for your success with this channel. I came across one of your Pulp reviews and stuck around since. I am glad I did, you have my favorite booktube channel. 2025 is looking to be a fun year. I look forward to your Rabbit Hole and Marple Cinematic Universe projects. Hollow world stories have long fascinated me. And while I haven't read much Christie, I have read a couple Miss Marple tales and watched a few adaptations. I enjoyed them and am curious to find out how you take them. Anyway, good luck on the next year.
Thanks for your kind words!
I would have been happy to join you in 1925 but I will go as far as November 18, 1922 (with Proust). If you'd like some Gothic company, I'd like to check out Jane's "horrid" novels. Just give me a reminder beforehand.
Will do!
What a great plan for the year, Gavin! So many wonderful events. I am very impressed by your planning.
Thanks Pat, now just need to read it all :)
Congrats on 500!
Thank you!
I’m a huge reader but I never heard of this author before! Gonna go and look them up 🙌🏼
Cool! Check his “Planet Stories” shorts. A few on Project Gutenberg..
Well past 500 subscribers now Gavin. Best wishes and happy reading!
Thanks Nigel!
Amazing how many of those books, or at least the authors, were part of my childhood and to some extent are still part of the culture today. What a decade!
Indeed, the end of one century and beginning of the next seems always to be a fertile time for creativity!
Sorry for taking so long to get to this video! I always love your Tuesday Book Tag videos; thanks so much for tagging me! I’ll have to think a bit about how to answer these questions… I didn’t know that there was a market for Western books overseas, but I didn’t read my first Western until my family returned to the States, so I wasn’t looking. It’s kind of sad that the popularity of the genre is dwindling a bit. It’s like how the heyday of movie and tv Western has long passed…
Hi Tahlia. No apologies ever needed! There's not much call for Westerns here anymore it seems - in a way I can see why, I was watching an old Randolph Scott (!) movie the other week, and had to cringe at the portrayal of Native Americans (and cringe-squared when realising many of them were played by white actors in makeup). But when the genre gets it right, it's fantastic!
Loving these old pulp reviews. I've always fancied doing similar in text reviews, but could never find the time.
I'm still scratching the surface here!
Definitely my favourite shelf so far. What a wonderful selection of books 😊
Thanks. It was the Dictionary of Critical Theory that did it, wasn’t it?
@ oh definitely 👍🏼. What a book 😂
I'd take "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd" over "Captain" any day.
Wouldn’t have been as good in the film, all standing in their desks though..
@@GenreBooks23 True. And "Lilacs" is very long...
I like that cover for The Dark.
Yep, it’s a spooky one. The more I think about it the more I don’t think I’ve read this one, so have that to look forward to..
What was this country with one television channel?
Zimbabwe (1983-1987)
@GenreBooks23 Must have been a great experience!
@tillysshelf Pros and Cons, but would not change it!
I think PG Wodehouse explained the pronunciation of Psmith - 'It's pronounced Psmith, as in pshrimp'.
Haha - that clears it up then!
I really enjoyed this video, Gavin. Very interesting! I'm definitely a mood reader, too, so I try to have plenty of tempting non-fiction options on hand as well as fiction. 😊
Sounds like you're truly going to love that Gernsback book. Anticipation! ❤
Absolutely:)
I make so many plans, and stick to half of them, but worse than mood reading is mood buying!
@GenreBooks23 😂😂😂
Love this. Great answers. Many congratulations on hitting 500 subs. So well deserved. Love your channel 😊
Thanks Debs!
Thank you so much for doing my tag! I hope you enjoy your Gurnsback book when you finally get around to it :)
Thanks for making the tag, it was fun!
@@GenreBooks23 Glad you enjoyed it :)
