This is episode 4 of the Turbo Rotary Minibike, where we took it out for the first test drive with the turbo! We changed the gearing to give it more torque but went a little too high, so we need to re-regear it. It sounds absolutely insane when driving and it seemed to be doing well and making boost! Next up is going full send and getting up to some higher speeds to see what it’s capable of!

Get a torque converter with medium/high gearing to fix that low rpm flat spot, and to give higher top speed, you could run premix, probably only 50/1 if you’re on pump gas right now. The premix will stop it from blowing up if you’re really worried about that, and of course porting the tiny intake it has would give a lot more power but I understand you don’t have a lot of time on your hands to fabricate something like that. But you could always Dremel out a little bit of material, and a rough intake surface helps mix the gas with the air better, cleaner burn, more power, bla bla bla

Back in 1963 I had a minibike with 8" wheels and a Scott-Atwater 15 c.i. Outboard engine on it with a water tank up front and it thermo-syphened to cool like a Model T auto. Anyway, I am writing because of your mention of 'wheelieing'. Don't know if that's a word or not. What happened is that the first time that I went around a corner & 'gassed' it, the wheel came up while it was laid over. A real heart stopping moment, I'll say! Got straightened up and rolled off the throttle. I watched out and never did that again. BTW, that engine was from a class "C" race kart. Fun tho', since I survived.
you need to resize the intake ports to be round thats the air restriction that is causing the problems

I wish y'all would've installed a boost gauge. That would've been really cool to see how much boost it's making. That Sachs single rotor is a beast with that small turbo on it.

Very nice bike, sounds great! Good progression in the build also. I dont like the clutch band-break tho, those are scary with that much power. I am shure you could make a sprocket brake with some sort of mc calipers.
Adjust the pilot jet. Its the small screw under the carb nearest the intake side of the carb. Will help the low speed running
Definitely need some higher rpm clutching, rotaries don’t make any power low rpm wise so if you could toss an adjustable clutch or a tq converter on it you’d be set for the track. Then dial in the gearing for top end and it would absolutely scream. Definitely check the plugs to see what your mix looks like and then you can play with jet sizes/ 2 stroke mix ratios to really bring it to life. Absolutely wonderful work guys, keep it up 👍🏼

Tip: During the 1979 IMSA racing season, Mazda ran it's RX-7 entry with fuel injection... which helped improve it's mid-range throttle response & power.
Looks sick, would love to see a boost gauge to see how much boost its making.

The tank looks inadequate and if it doesent breath properly it could starve it for fuel. Needs bigger tank and better air/fuel

If you took that motor apart and did some porting and open up that intake it would help a lot with throttle response but also you have a very long intake so of course the throttle is gonna be really laggy

How about putting the turbo on the rotary go cart?
I think its time to take this to next level and get fuel injection system and programmable ecu to optimize power.. also maybe get bit better turbo than that thing so there is not chance of engine failing due turbo braking.

Oh yeah you can tell it’s way faster than before.
I still think your exhaust is to small diameter and your loosing out on some hp. My buddies twin turbo RX7 is now rocking 3.5inch exhaust and it came alive compared to the 2inch that was on it before.
jo guys in ur carburetor should be 3 jets low rpm mid rpm and high rpm

Whats the redline on that engine? It sounds like you're just barely starting to hit the power band. Rotaries don't come alive until high RPMs.
This km 48 that they are running has a stock redline at 6000 rpm
