well technically, Kirk Alyn was the first actor to play Superman on the Silver Screen, George Reeves was the first actor to play him on Television and the first actor to ever portray superman was Bud Collyer, on the radio. It was the Radio play that introduced a lot of things that weren't originally in the mythos. like kryptonite and Superman Flying.
@@kevinmatsumoto6483 Jacob said that George was the first actor to play Superman on screen. I corrected his statement. No one asked for the rest. Have a good day.
My wife and I have visited Metropolis many times over the past 16 years for the annual Superman Celebration. It's a great town with many activities and attractions to visit including not only the Super Museum but also the Ohio River front, Harrah's Casino, and the Metropolis Cemetary where Robert Stroud, the Birdman of Alcatraz, is buried.
I DO join you every day Jacob😊. I don’t comment every day tho. Thanks as always for the years of comforting entertainment. Looking forward to meeting you in Oaks. _tyler
I have enjoyed this more than you know..!!! I will watch this over and over...I just love Chris Reeve as Superman and In my opinion the best..!!!! I allway's go back to his Superman movie's.. Wonderfull childhood memories however I never tire of them.. And later on In life so sad about Chris's accident he was In many way's the real true superman the way he fought his battle's... Thanks so such for this vlogg. Your friend, fan, and follower. XXXX
Also as a super fan of a Superman.!! Please Please never stop doing your channel and fantastic content...I would and many many other's would miss you and the channel like mad.!!! who or what could possibly replace you..... No one.. 🏆🏆
Thank you Jacob for another exciting adventure. I learned a lot about Superman. I didn’t know was very fun to watch. Keep up the good work we love you.❤❤❤❤❤
Kirk Alan was the first live action Superman. He played him in the 1940's movie serials. He had a cameo with Noel Neil in the 1978 Superman The Movie. They played Lois Lane's parents during the train scene.
I was born in Chicago, and grew up in northern Illinois and I remember when they made Metropolis Superman's home town. It was a big deal for a while. Always meant to go and see it, I never made it. At least not yet.
Morning Jacob 🤓📸 I thought you be late with ur video, but not. It's ok . Thanks for sharing this Superman hometown in Illinois. It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's Superman lol
I lived in Metropolis in the early 90's as a kid. Superman festival in June is fun. You should also check out Fort Massac and The Encampment in the Fall.
I’m a truck driver and before i stopped doing over the road driving metropolis was my favorite rest area to stop at it’s really big and clean and always had parking but I never got a chance to visit the town tho
Kirk Alyn was the first actor to portray Superman, in movie serials. He was invited back to play a cameo (as Lois Lane's father) in the first Christopher Reeve movie. That scene was cut, but then restored for the extended version.
My husband is a big Superman fan, he would love this place. I started him a small collection of Superman stuff. I can’t believe all the items there are. They had Superman PB in the 80’s. I am surprised you don’t remember it. 🤷🏻♀️
Hey i work at the casino there. Harrahs lol glad you came to our lil town ...but live in paducah ky they had eclispe glasses on superman during the eclispe .. it was cool
My friend and I are going to Vegas next month, we're from Canada, and I CANNOT wait to smash pennies! I actually found a list of all the penny smashers there and I've been saving every penny I come across because we no longer use them in Canada.
The Superman character was co-created by Canadian artist Joseph Shuster. Born in Toronto, he is a cousin of Wayne Shuster, one-half of the beloved Canadian comedy duo Wayne and Shuster. Joseph, who passed away in 1992 at the age of 78, said Metropolis was modelled on Toronto and the Daily Planet was inspired by the Toronto Star, which he delivered as a kid
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s a guy on a camel riding in a dirigible, surrounded by possums 😮. But those camels eyes. 👀 dark, black like a dolls eyes!
I've always wanted to visit there. I've been a Superman fan since I was a young kid. To me, Christopher Reeve is THE Superman. I work on pinball machines and could fix your Grandmother's Superman pinball as well!
My wife has relatives in Marion, IL and we've been to Metropolis a lot. I was there a few months back and I believe that the comic book murals are fairly new and looks like it's still being worked on. Big John's used to be a chain of grocery stores that all had the statue in the front of the parking lot. Now I think the one in Metropolis is the only one left. It's owned by the same company that owns Huck's convenience stores that are in the Midwest and upper South.
I don't know if they still do conventions of a sort; but I know alot of Actors that have been a part of the Superman Legacy have been there to see it and allow fans to enjoy meeting their Heroes 😎✌️
Superman came from Smallville in Kansas (according to the comic book) Metropolis might have been in Kansas but I think it was in a big city…it doesn’t say which one. According to to the comics that is. But this is fun also.
Sir my best memory of the superman museum was a Halloween kids superman costume from the fifties around the belt it said this is just a costume it will not make you fly
Hello Jacob. My name is Adam. My brother owns OLD SCHOOL PIZZA near Dekalb Illinois. You stopped in about a year ago for a video. If you are ever in this neck of the woods again, I live right near the pop culture pizza place, and I have a massive collection of Elvis Presley Memorabilia. It fills my entire house. I'd love to give you a tour sometime. Thank you very much. Take care.
Yes, Kirk Alyn was the first actor to portray the live-action Superman. He played the role for two fifteen-segment film serials, the first in 1948, and the second in 1950. On the radio, starting in 1940, Superman was played by Bud Collyer (who was best know for game shows Beat the Clock and To Tell the Truth). He voiced the character in the 17 animated Superman theatrical short cartoons (1941-1943), and continued to do so in various cartoons until his passing in 1969. George Reeves' first outing at Superman, Superman and the Mole Men (1951) was later divided up and used as a two-part episode, entitled "The Unknown People" of the Superman television show.
Hey Jacob you know that clock in This video that's the clock that was in the pee wee herman show. His name was clocky... I absolutely used to love that show pee wee's playhouse ..☺️
After watching Adam the Woo do a couple of neat Mississippi river towns I got to thinking that some one should do the Mississippi River from beginning to end. You have done Route 66, the Lincoln Highway and the Dixie Highway. I would love to see you do the Great River Road.
There are people That all they do is work on pinball machines and jukeboxes etc. I was so glad to see that they had some of George Reeves things and some of Christopher Reeves I remember Seeing the one with George Reeves and the one the Lois Lane statue is of.I also liked Dean Cain. Thanks for showing this to us. Cheri
Look up Bud Collyer in Wikipedia. HE was the first one to play Superman. He stared in the radio show that brought him to the attention of the general public. He also reprised the role in the 1966 animated television series "The New Adventures of Superman". BTW, kryptonite was originated by the radio show
I wonder how many people came to Metropolis to view the eclipse since I think totality came through here. I hope there someone out there who got a photo of Superman in the foreground and the eclipsed sun in the background.
I really enjoyed this video, Jacob! It was known that actor George Reeves had committed suicide. A number of years ago, his death was investigated and evidence has shown that George Reeves was actually murdered. Though, some disagree with him being murdered and say he did commit suicide.
Bad news for the Superman pinball machine in your grandma's basement, Atari-brand pinball machines are a lot harder to get up and running compared to other brands. Their time making pinball machines was short-lived, so there's not much of a spare parts market for them compared to other more popular companies like Gottlieb, Bally, and Williams.
That's my kind of museum. Though, I kind of wish more comic book art was on display. Or at least that there was more stuff featuring Superman's villains. They're frequently underrepresented in stuff. Still, there was Luthor, Doomsday and Bizarro.
Only starting in the Donner movies. Before that, Superman was less Jesus and more Moses. But then, what would you expect from a hero created by two Jewish boys from Cleveland.
The outdoor camera is mine, I was trying to stream a 24 hour RUclips channel of the statue , giant Superman statue came, but it became to hard to do it from Florida
Wonder what year the Cadillac was in front of the museum?!? We had a 1953 Cadillac Fleetwood that was pale green like that one with a dark green hard top to set it off n it had a custom pale green snakeskin dashboard n pale green custom upholstery with tiny Cadillac emblems embossed in it with the rest of the bolt of material left in the HUGE trunk n the gas tank was in the taillight you had to lift up to gas up!! It was SUPERB!!! I know you aren't really interested in cars so I don't fi d it unusual that you blew over that 1950's Cadillac gem in front of the museum, which in my opinion, if you've seen once, it's enough, but I am not into superman either.
Good morning,Jacob. It’s nice to see you in my neck of the woods. George Reeves wasn’t the FIRST man to play him on screen. That was Kirk Alan.
what about Ronald Reagan
