I am a descendant of Captain Yeaton. My grandfather was Conrad Yeaton of southern New Hampshire. (Nashua and East Pepperill, MA) There are two branches of the family.....the branch in Eastern Maine says the name as in this film. Those of us from New Hampshire say the name like "not yet" and his first name like a "great hope" When they moved his body, they contacted my mother (Bernadette Ann Yeaton) as the eldest of that particular family line. The authoritative biography on Yeaton is "His Window on the World" by DiFrancesco. His painting is on my bedroom wall.thank you
I am a descendant from the Maine portion mate, the Pike side of the family. They were right, the family came over from England in 1635 on the second voyage of the James. Robert Pike of Wiltshire England. Robert Pike had a son, Robert Pike Jr. who was one of the many judges who overseed the Salem With Trials. Further down the lineage a great uncle of mine Zebulon Montgomery Pike, soldier, explorer, and father. Would be the first recorded American who discovered Pike's peak Colorado. (He took the mid range exploration of the Louisiana Purchase, while Lewis and Clark went further north). So, it would seem by way through marriage and ancestry we are cousins of a sort, it would appear.
I was one of the pall bearers that brought the remains of Hopley Yeaton back to his final resting place at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Ct. I was a 3rd Class Cadet...
Thank you for this video. A house he lived in the Spate house in Eastport recently fell to old age and neglect. A sad site.

I'm also a descendant of Hopley Yeaton. My mothers name is Yeaton and our family resided on the west coast in California.
I'm a descendant as well . I was at the Coast Guard dedication art the academy when I was a child.
I'm surprised to have found this. You even pronounced the name correctly. The Coast Guard gets it very wrong with their award.

although we are related, Jeff, no one knows for sure who has the correct pronunciation. But I think I do.
He is interred at the Coast Guard Academy.
