Hello Pandora [Plays] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing at Wacken Open Air in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K+ audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

@@PandoraPlaysMusic hey Pandora great reaction ! and Welcome to the best band and female vocalist of our time, I know bold statement but if you take the journey you will understand ,the YT fan base is massive,passionate & very active, 80% of which is for the Floor era,she stepped in Oct 2012 ,and has been their 3rd,current & "Final" vocalist ,GLS is the epitome of Symphonic Metal with more of a classical influence as is many of their compositions but many from this concert are much heavier ,also GLS is the most reacted to song on YT ever with several vocal coaches having over 2.5 Million views .But this was but a very small taste of what Floor & NW has in store for you.
**there are 2 pivotal events since Floor Jansen came aboard NW in late 2012 #1 Wacken 2013 - #2 Beste Zangers 2019 at this popular Dutch tv show filmed on Ibiza some top Dutch singers past & present get together and the person on the center couch for the day has one of their songs or a song that has meaning to them sung back to them reinterpreted by the other singers,novel idea .
Floor opened the show with the 1st song below and just blew everyone's mind,only two of the other singers knew who Floor was but none of them had heard her sing with such versatility,after the 8 day run of the show Floor's & NW's popularity soared,stadiums filled up and ticket sales shot up.btw since Floor joined NW & after this show NW's fan base has tripled . on Mama by Samantha S.Floor completely changes the tempo and song structure ,the song is about Samantha wanting to be more like her Mom, Que Se Siente by Rolf is originally a merenge ,mambo type song so of course Floor does it her way,Winner by Tim A. he wrote for his brother who has Spina Bifida,

Nightwish are from Finland, though the singer (Floor Jansen) is from the Netherlands. Tuomas, the keyboard player, writes most of the music and lyrics. They are an incredibly versatile band, with no two of their songs really sounding alike. To get you started down this fabulously deep rabbit hole, I’d recommend, from this same Wacken 2013 show, Song of Myself, Storytime, Romanticide, and Everdream.

Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6)
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken ( pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

My favourite singer is the obscenely talented and beautiful Melissa Bonny of Ad Infinitum. Ironically Melissa said in an interview recently that Floor is one of her favourite all time singers. Floor is amazing for sure.

I'm Dutch too! I love that Floor is able to sing all of the styles of Nightwish and even does Tarja's songs better than Tarja did. They have a live performance of StarGazers within the last few years where Floor is doing all of the operatic singing that Tarja used to do, and she puts that girl to shame.

Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of almost four octaves (D3-G#5-F6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a Master vocal coach. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. This band has a huge variety to offer when it comes to music in general. It's mostly symphonic metal (which is broad in of itself) but they also play folk metal, score-like metal, opera metal and some power and heavy metal as well. Even some symphonic pieces with no metal. You wont be disappointed.

Hi Pandora, If/When you go to see Nightwish or Epica in concert, they are not like your typical metal shows, you'll see just as many Women and Girls as Boys an Men in the audience, of all ages, whole families go to see these bands, the atmosphere is fantastic, these bands appeal to everyone, I can't wait to see Epica in March next year in England :)

How I wished, like millions of fans, I was there but unfortunately.... What an amazing experience it must have been.
Not a band to sleep on if they are doing a show nearby...doesn't matter how large or small the venue this band is incredible and it is so much fun being in the crowd :D This concert was a touchstone event one of the great live shows of any band and most of us could only have wished to have been there!

As the others already have told you, this is Symphonic Metal - the merge of symphony and metal music, often composed in chapters, telling you stories and giving you experiences you will remember.
Nightwish are the greatest live band ever and the top of the top in Symphonic Metal. Floor is the most powerful and versatile singer in the galaxy - you have only scratched the surface of Nightwish's and Floor's capabilities - at most 10 - 12% in this song. But it shows both her and the whole bands versatility.
Tuomas (keyboard) is known as the Metal Mozart or the Modern Mozart - and he is a phenomenal composer and a phenomenal writer, creating complexed compositions and likewise poetic lyrics, filled with quotes from Shakespeare, Scientists and other deep thinkers.
This is music to experience - more than just listen to.

Yep I've seen Nightwish 3 times live already (not this exact Wacken 2013) and have tickets for 2 more show.
The biggest of those concerts I've been to I easily concider as THE BEST live concert I've EVER seen.
Nightwish with Floor Jansen moved to another level they are the best live band I know. They are insanely good and the music (mostly composed by keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen) is just genius.

Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best and most versatile female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), the Valkyrie Queen of metal herself Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen). Floor is a classically trained soprano and has a vocal range of more than 3 octaves (D3 to F6+).
Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had (and my personal favourite), she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today.
The other vocalists are -
Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals.
Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals.
Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera.

Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious goldmine of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff (including 2 other bands, After Forever & ReVamp) that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well. She is also an absolutely lovely, funny, smart and grounded person (in fact all the band members are exceedingly down to earth individuals). She has her own channel here on RUclips where she regularly posts covers of songs.
The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter/composer and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen.
The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is EXTREMELY varied.
The "Symphonic" backing tracks of their music is composed in the majority by Tuomas and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
This was the 13th song in this particular set, Floor is belting notes like that the entire set.
Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible.
Most new reactors are better off sticking with the Wacken 2013 set to begin with as it offers a taste of a lot of what Nightwish has to offer, they have multiple concerts though all of which are superb.
Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Storytime, Ever Dream, Romanticide, Ghost River, I Wish I had an Angel, Song of Myself, Dark Chest of Wonders, I Want My Tears Back and Amaranth all from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vacken).
Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance.
Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version.
Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make a lot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way.
Prepare for the Nightwish army to arrive and enjoy your Nightwish journey, I know I did!😎🤘

Serious, i've waited a long time for someone like you...you just listen and enjoyed the video. Diving deep into it, so you could caught every single little tone of it. That was awesome...just one nice thing i missed...your voice.... Sadwise, i have to say, you didn't speak that much at the end. Even if it is a 10 minute video. A little bit more than a 2 min talking would be amazing. But i'm glad you wanted more of it and i'm happy that you are different. Because many reacters are realy in hurry, or what... and often complain bout longer songs. WTH...But than i know...no need to subcribe.

Pandora this was the greatest festival of all time. Germany really knows how put on a party !! Day one of Wacken Open Air i didn't know what to expect. It was awesome i saw Deep Purple and Rammstein along with a few local bands and ask myself how does it get any better. We didn't go day two because my brother and cousin wanted to go. It was OK with me because the beer in Germany was a lot stronger than in America and i was a little hungover !! Just as long as i could see Alice Cooper on day three .After we saw them my other cousin insisted we watch Nightwish. I was fine with that, I had never heard of them and OMG how good they were =) You really need to watch more from this festival, "StoryTime" for sure. Just follow Gabriel's list !! Enjoy Just enjoy it all !!
