Floor was recovering from the flu during this concert so she wasn't 100%. In one of her interviews she talked about it lingering during these Latin American performances. She came down with it in Bogota, Columbia, completely losing her voice that morning, yet still performing later in the day. Ya, stamina. We can hear the raspiness in her speaking voice during this concert as the symptoms hung around.
"Devil & Deep Dark Ocean" was song #16 of the setlist and Floor's 14th song, because they added two instrumentals before. Watch their last song of the evening, "Ghost Love Score", and listen how she needed to improvise that last note, as it was beyond her possibilties that evening. P.S. I am always wondering, how good Floor sounds, even with a sore throat.
This was song number 17 out of 21 during their decades tour which was done to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band (even though it had technically been 22) and, in my opinion, to properly close any doubts on wether she would ever leave the band. They played songs they hadn't played anywhere from 5 to 20 years, so at least half of the show during the tour was Floor performing songs she had never sang before. I think it's one of her best performances, even though she had been sick like a week prior to that performance
This is actually my favorite Floor performance, because of all the different styles and techniques, and I love the theatrical nature of this performance, with Marko and Floor going back and forth. "Dead Boys Poem" from the same concert is probably second.
Original male vocalist for this is Tapio Wilska and real old stuff when Nightwish was a baby band on small stage. Nightwish (& Tarja Turunen) - Devil and Deep Dark Ocean - Live 1999. 4 min YT clip Nightwish- Devil and The Deep Dark Ocean With Tapio Wilska @ Lahti 21.7.2018 (HD) with Floor Tapio Wilska has better voice for this song than Marko, but when hes mainly visiting vocalist there is not much official material.
You might hear things that are 100%, but over 90% of singers can only dream of sounding half as good as Floor sounded in the end. Foor is just a league of her own (aka she has NO competition)
Ya I really like the ending too. Think it's supposed to give you hope and keep going. Of course Floor's smile and expressions can't help but make me smile too! ❤😊
Welcome back to Nightwish Julia, we missed you. I nearly forgot how good you are at this. That 300k subs is well deserved. Much love and happy holidays my friend 🤗
Julia, you've done it again. Love to hear your thoughts on a piece of music. One of the great things about live music is the humanity of it with things like you pointed out, fatigue indicators, which most people would not notice but would not be most likely in studio versions as they would just do another take. I've got to say that when it comes to perfection of skills and abilities in live vocals we don't have a whole lot to compare Floor to, especially when you take in all the versatility of her vocals. I recommend "Dead Boy's Poem" from this same concert for your next Floor/NIghtwish reaction. Thank you for a great reaction!
You make me even a bigger Nightwish fan every time you analyse them. When you explain how talanted she is even if I already know it. I had the chance to see them here in Sweden when Floor were maybe 7-8 months pregnant one of their last concerts before she gave birth. And had the chance to get a 2nd row place I will always remember my first Nightwish concert. Even then she performed as she used to do.
Well done Julia! If you would like to see Floor contrasting with another male voice you MUST listen to "Dreamflight" of her Band After forever live 2007 at Progpower ❤ For me it's a diamond in wich you can see her excellent breathing and singing technics.
Simply lovely reaction again Julia 🎶 even though Floor was recovering from the flu still this is one of my favourite concert’s performance wise and I like the older songs now have a live Floor version 🧡 hope you do some more songs from this concert 🎉
2:08 - 2:42 “oh that’s right, they’re insane!” 😂 9:30 - 10:00 “where the hell did that note come from?” - your face! 👏😊 “You don’t need me to tell you that’s flippin high!” 12:00 - 12:22 I knew you would enjoy those vocal onsets! We love watching you review Floor & Nightwish magic! ✨
Great to catch one of your live chats Julia! As we mentioned in the first chat, it would be wonderful for you to revisit Epica with some of their newer music. Especially some of the collabs like Sirens of Blood and Water with Charlotte Wessels and Myrkur, The Final Lullaby Ft Shining, and Rivers with Apocalyptica.
Floor was unwell and thanked Dr Troy's advice during those shows. She is unstoppable. The pure will power to also deliver the GLS parts in this show was insane and Epic! Thanks for another top Nightwish reaction. Looking forward to more.
Julia, thank you for this awesome Christmas present! I am so happy you found your way back to NW and especially this song. Great performance and an exceptional analysis!
Julia I recommend - song of myself - live wacken 2013 - for me one of the best Nightwish`s songs and performances - you probably start headbanging too :)
I've been waiting for this one! So excited to see your analysis. This is one of my favorite songs by Nightwish, it's got a little bit of everything and really shows Floor's versatility.
Thanks Julia👍,for your analytics and knowhow to give us a glimb what singing is all about. I think,Floor is certainly a great "subject"/person for vocal coaches to react to and explain what it's all about. That said, physics and the natural talent will play a big role in that also and the combination of Tuomas his compositions and great musicianship off all involved are a recipe for epic music.🤘 Have a nice christmas and a h(e)a pp(v)y new year.🤘🎄 Greetings from Spain.
It's been forever since you've done a Nightwish reaction. I love the vocal accuracy in strict timing on this one. Awesome seeing you cover their fantastic reaction once again.
This song is an absolute banger 🤘😎🤘. Kai's drumming on this is just crazy ( Kai Hahto "The Human Metronome", or in my book Kai "The Machine Gun" Hahto )!!! In one interview Tuomas/Marko said that Floor has a lungs of a dolphin (That long note is 💥)!!! Plus, she holds the last note (A4) of Nightwish - Ad Astra for 17 seconds (10/6/2022 Sweden Festival). If this wasn't impressive enough, I can also add than now she's just one, I mean ONE, second short from equaling Pavarotti's longest belt ever recorded. So,.... Nuff Said !!!! NWSU/FloorFan.
Always happy to see you complimenting Marko as well! Floor is absolutely astounding, I saw her live 14/15 years ago when she was still in ReVamp, and WOW. She was super nice too afterwards.
love your reaction as a vocal coach. In "Shoemaker" from the album Human Nature Floor shows all her glory. Hope to hear your take on that. She has done this tribute to Eugene Shoemaker live on many occasions. She is the Valkyrie goddess
nothing makes me happier than seeing Julia enjoy all the facets of metal and voice dynamics within the genre. Julia, you are truly a gift to the world with these wonderful reactions and analyses. Much love from Adelaide Australia, so glad you are back uploading
Everything Floor does is hard to tell Julia. It was almost like at that long note she switched to auxiliary oxygen tank and kept going. Lol, maybe she first used left lung, then when it was almost empty she pulled the energy from her right lung.
When i was a kid i always told my mum when im older im going on a concert and make videos for her...yea about 9 years later in 2022 i got second row mid right spot and i had tears in my eyes
Marko's Devil character is amorously pursuing Floor's Mermaid character. She is having none of it, and manages to get away. An older song, from the 2ndalbum Oceanborn in 1998, before Marko. Studio vocals by Tarja and guest Tapio Wilska. This Buenos Aires concert was on the Decades tour, where they played a lot of older Tarja era songs. You don't have any reactions to Tarja yet. Please try, from the 2005 Helsinki concert (End of an Era DVD) "The Siren" or "Phantom of the Opera", Marko sings with her on both.
Hooray!!!!🎊 🎉 Finally get to see your beautiful face and hear your wonderful voice. Thoroughly enjoy your assessment of vocals and hope you and Elizabeth do another collaboration 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻💯
That bit where she hits the E6 when Floor holds her head all the way back reminds me of Godzilla as he releases his atomic heat ray. I'm almost certain Floor is not a normal Human.
Oh, Julia! You returning to NW after ages and then with that song and such a long analysis even, feels like an early Christmas gift and did not disappoint at all! Dead Boy's Poem, same show, next please
Ahhhhh Julia.... Buenos Aires 2018 where Floor breathed new life in to a number of Nightwish classics that pre-date her time with the band and made them her own. Phenomenal group of musicians all masters of their craft and as always an wonderful insightful reaction. Thank you. 🙏😊👍♥️
I enjoyed you climbing in the mike, resting your arm on it. Very much at ease, enjoying the next encounter with Nightwish. Especialy after you discovered the E6 from Floor. You made my day! Best word of it: Floorthingling.
Love, love, your Nightwish/Floor reactions!! ❤..... And yes this was deep into their set AND Floor was sick, and yet this vocal beast of a woman was able still perform at a level few if any could achieve. Have you reacted to Dead Boy's Poem? ( Bueno Aires ) ...... stunning!

Woohooo Julia is back, Nightwish as well! Great song, great reaction and breakdown - what more could we want? Well, maybe time to have a look at The Warning again now that they’ve toured Europe and America with Muse and performed live songs (More and Evolve) at the MTV VMA’s! If I remember correctly you were very impressed with them last time you reacted to them! Get ready to become a real fangirl 😂 Edit: Forgot to ask, how is your Phd going?
You, really, should check out her previous band ReVamp. I think she was more vocally experimental there. Disdain, Live, Graspop, 2010, is what you'll want to listen to. A great review!
Great comeback to Nightwish rabbithole. This song is an old classic from early Tarja-era back in 90's. The original version is somewhat different. I highly recommend to you that you listen to that on your own. Have a good holidays. Greetings from Finland.
@@572Btriode Nah. Anyone who had been sick before knows it could be to a point where no one could stay on stage for long without becoming a complete train wreck.
I couldn’t agree with you more with regard to just about everything you said here, but I often have the same reaction to floor’s impact on my appreciation of her both as a performer and as a model to point to as a performance coach. Cheers!
You know what Julia? I watched and listened to you as usual - without logging into RUclips.... But at the end of your analysis I concluded - no, I can't subscribe to your channel again, because I did it a long time ago, but I have to log in, because a thumbs up for you from my side is simply mandatory!
Well hello stranger! Yes it's been a hot minute since you reacted to them and thank God you are back with them! Marko and Floor are the only two that can take a powerful song and make it like a short movie scene between them. I don't want to say musical but I don't know how to other way say it, but damn! Oh and by the way not to change the subject; but why is it when you stop the song and talk about everything I can listen to to you whole heartedly and smile but others and forgive me I cannot? Is it wicked of me?? Maybe it's just me. 🎼💋🌹
This is actually my first time hearing those two sing this song, the original was on the second album, so it’s pre-Marko and still fairly early Tarja They both took a fairly different approach to what’s on the album, but they still nailed it in their way. I really must check out the full Decades show, I like what I’ve seen so far
That day just before this concert Floor had the flu and lost her voice. So it was really amazing she was able to pull through and do this concert. She said it was part Adrenaline, some pills and her voice was so trained to do this that it was autopilot for a lot of the high end stuff, That she herself was even amazed her voice did what she wanted it to do for most of it.
How did i not catch this reaction 😯🤣 i love this song. Awesome reaction 😊 Edit: she was probably a little fatigued do to battling the flu during the tour.
Floor was recovering from the flu during this concert so she wasn't 100%. In one of her interviews she talked about it lingering during these Latin American performances. could barely stand unaided before this show..... but Troy had plenty of medicine! and..... speaks for itself!
My mistake, it was Mexico City where she was still sick after Bogota.
This was song number 17 out of 21 during their decades tour which was done to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band (even though it had technically been 22) and, in my opinion, to properly close any doubts on wether she would ever leave the band. I think it's one of her best performances, even though she had been sick like a week prior to that performance

That could explain some of the perceived fatigue Julia picked up on, which wasn't apparent to my untrained eye.

The last melodic part of this song is one of my all-time favorite. Something about the progression and the long flowing notes gets me
Ya I really like the ending too. Think it's supposed to give you hope and keep going. Of course Floor's smile and expressions can't help but make me smile too! ❤😊
long time no see Julia.... another great reaction. Thank you for coming back to Nightwish again after a long break!!
I think that's from the South America Tour where Floor was kind of sick. That she still manages this type of high-class singing is outstanding.
Welcome back to Nightwish Julia . Been waiting for your return. Now for your mate Elizabeth to do the same 😇😇😇😇

Hello again, Julia. Nice to have you back reacting to our beloved Nightwish with Floor. Loved your detailed reaction.

Nice suggestion for Tarja’s songs. I would also suggest the classics - Wishmaster from that show (or maybe the Beauty and the Beast with Tony).
Actually the 2nd album is Oceanborn and that's where this song comes from.
Wishmaster was the 3rd album, released in 2000.

She said it was part Adrenaline, some pills and her voice was so trained to do this that it was autopilot for a lot of the high end stuff,
That she herself was even amazed her voice did what she wanted it to do for most of it.
How did i not catch this reaction 😯🤣 i love this song. Awesome reaction 😊
Edit: she was probably a little fatigued do to battling the flu during the tour.
