Imagine a student (akin to Watchtower) in a classroom warns their peers that the teacher (symbolizing world governments) will get mad and ban all games (paralleling the ban on all religions) if even one student starts a fight (equivalent to any form of religious conflict). The student uses the potential anger of the teacher as proof to support their certainty about the ban on games. This claim overlooks the teacher’s nuanced understanding of classroom dynamics, their ability to address conflicts individually rather than through blanket punishments, and the impracticality of banning all games, which are integral to learning and social interaction among students. Similarly, Watchtower’s prediction simplifies and exaggerates the complex relationship between global governments and religions, assuming a unanimous and drastic action against a fundamental aspect of human culture and society based on a speculative event. Just as it’s obvious that a teacher managing a diverse classroom would seek more measured and constructive solutions to conflicts, it’s clear that the global political landscape is too varied and nuanced for a unified, total ban on all religions to be a plausible scenario.

When you understand what they are saying it shows *God is more merciful/patient than we initiatially realised... The more we study the bible the more his personality and ways is understood...*
2 Peter 3:9 New Living Translation
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. *He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.*
      Psalms 103:7-14 New Living Translation
*7He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.*
*8The LORD is compassionate and merciful,* slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
9He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever.
*10He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.*
11For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
12He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.
13The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
*14For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.*

I'm actually glad the Lloyd Evans take was brought up. While the Armageddon doctrine is still in place, how were supposed to perceive it is fundamentally different. This isn't an attempt by the governing body to make it sound more exciting, but rather more appealing to make people come back. It certainly doesn't help them that Stephen Lett has a breakdown of the Armageddon timeline with the final part of the final part of last days. It's evident that they're throwing everything out there to get people to stay/return from scare tactics responding to Covid to Sales tactics responding to the dwindling numbers that they don't wanna admit to.

THIS particular point irritates me. When I was studying I remember saying that I would believe if they did ban religion as I had doubts. I was told that by then it would be too late…..so I got baptised 🤦‍♀️ if this was the teaching back then, I probably would never have been a witness 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

    • @thomash.schwed3662
      @thomash.schwed3662 6 месяцев назад +4

You're absolutely right, Kim. There are many who would never have gone along with the Society had this been the teaching. And, actually, the case can be made that now that this is the teaching, many will leave the Society as a consequence of this change.
Of course, the Society is banking on the majority of Jehovah's witnesses having either a short memory or no memory at all. This despite the fact that the Society has long claimed to hold to a version of (pardon my poor spelling of the Latin) "stari decisis". From the Society's vantage point, "new light" must not contraindicate "old light", but rather confirm and expand upon the "old light". That's clearly not the case here. What was stated at the Society's annual meeting (and printed here in "The Watchtower") contraindicates the earlier teaching. Then again, within this overall topic, we've seen examples of this with regard to specific aspects. For instance, the Society has long had a back-and-forth with regard to Sodom and Gomorrah. That, by itself, could easily have been missed, particularly considering that a couple of times the changes occurred within a matter of months. But, now the Society has changed the overall teaching. Consequently, it's more noticeable. Add to this the fact that it came three days after the "Update" which had doubled down on the message of judgement during the great tribulation.
Reflecting on this over the last few months, I'm even more glad that I left the Society when I did. Had I still have involved with the organization now, being the avid student of the Society's history that I was, this is one particular change which would have had me reaching for an air-sick bag and heading for the nearest exit. Remember, too, that it was at this same annual meeting that the reporting of hours in the field service for the majority of publishers was dispensed with. Of course, the hours were the enforcement mechanism for the field service. That announcement and the change regarding the great tribulation combine to negate the need for the field service altogether. And if the field service be negated, what need is there for the Society? After all, according to the Charter, the purpose of the Society is to facilitate the dissemination of the gospel of the kingdom. Granted, we all realize that the Society has really in recent years become nothing more than a real-estate and telecommunications outfit. But, the majority of active witnesses continue to view it in line with the Charter. That's where the question above comes into the discussion. To put it another way: Why would anyone be Jehovah's witnesses if both the purpose and enforcement of witnessing are now contraindicated?
It all demonstrates that the Society has always been wrong. Even Jeffery Winder, in his discourse at the same annual meeting, tacitly admitted that they've been making it all up as they go along.

And this is still a "win" for Satan,... in that while you escaped the watchtower cult and its false teachings,... you have decided everything is a "myth",... and completely missed God's FREE GIFT of SALVATION by GRACE through His Son, Christ Jesus!!!! Hallelujah!!!!!!!
Many Christians fail to recognize that many former jw's, like yourself,... that wake up and escape, are often SO hurt and so angry and so bitter,... that they completely miss a REAL and PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with God!!!
Listen,... He IS REAL!!! And you are LOVED by Him more than you can ever fathom!!! So much so that He became flesh and died on the Cross to PAY for your sins and demonstrate to you his merciful and unending LOVE for you.
He wants to love you and fill your heart with a joy that words can't describe!!! But,... you have to TRUST Him and ACCEPT that it is a FREE GIFT by GRACE,... and NOT something you can EVER EARN!!!
You have suffered SO MUCH at the hands of deceitful men being used by Satan. DON'T LET WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO YOU, KEEP YOU FROM YOUR FATHER!!!
      PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE,.... consider,....
being honest with God and telling Him,...
"God,... honestly,... I don't know if you are there or not. But I do know that IF YOU ARE THERE,... I want to know. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE,... IF YOU ARE THERE,.... PLEASE,... I NEED YOU!!!"
If your heart is contrite,... our Father is faithful to both forgive us and save us, through His Son, Jesus Christ. You have ALREADY BEEN RANSOMED, THE SACRIFICE MADE and the PENALTY PAID.
BUT,... each of us is given the free will to accept or reject God's gracious GIFT.
      Don't reject it.
Humble yourself,... fall on your knees and cry out to God and beg Him for His love and presence in your life! God is faithful and merciful and WILL reveal Himself,... if you are sincere.

She didn’t believe me because I’m not a witness. I go sometimes because of family. Also at my grandpas funeral the pastor said only about Jesus. Like it was all about Jesus. If you know anything about JWs they will very rarely speak about Jesus. It sounded like a mainstream church sermon. I about fell out of my chair.

You die with sin, you go to hell. Then you get resurrected to get judged. Then you go to hell. ??? Also JWs: you’re born an “enemy of Jehovah” according to Lett. You grow. You get baptized JW. You make a mistake. You’re marked for destruction. You’re disfellowshipped and die. You’re destroyed then resurrected to be judged to get destroyed again. ?? I just don’t get it! Why not live life as Christ suggested: with Joy in Abundance and take up your Cross when you must, be human and grow and develop and believe and “Fear not!” “Stand still and KNOW that I Am God!” All this u and down, live and die then come back then go back is a lot of bouncing a ball up and down and back and forth...like a yo-yo.

If i remember right they did kind of qualify the change. It seems like they referenced those who never never knew vs those who knew but left. The difference being that if you never actually knew you'd be less responsible than someone like the majority of us who knew but left. Not that they were totally taking away they possibility of a former member rejoining right at the end and surviving, but that it would be less likely for that type of person. Again not that they totally ruled it out, just cast doubt on it. But i could be misremembering it too. I only watched that part of it once and either way i do feel like it's a big change considering they used to say any non-JWs would die at the end. That teaching never made sense to me considering there were supposedly a bunch of Egyptians that left with them.

The existing member can simply say, "it's ok that you have your doubt because when these events happen you can come back and we'll still be together in paradise" opposed to the possible waking up that may occur if the existing member attempts to engage as to why the individual is leaving. They're a corporation in decline trying to maintain existing numbers

Here is what I can see happening, Wally. At some point I can see governments making a move against religion by enacting laws to punish abusive actions of cults; taking away religions' tax exempt, privileged status in society; and going full secular, treating just as every other secular institution without the special privileges and deference they currently enjoy. Coupled with this, there could be some damning exposes of the corruption and crimes practiced by certain religious institutions over the years resulting in many people leaving organized religions and becoming atheist or just practicing their own personal, independent kind of spirituality.
When this happens Watchtower will point at this series of events and say it's the fulfillment of the destruction of Babylon the great mentioned in Revelation. They will say Revelation is symbolic so it wasn't talking about literal destruction but the destruction of organized religions' privileged status and standing in society.
This kind of shenanigan would be straight out of the same playbook they used with their predictions for 1914 failed. They just said it's an invisible presence and sort of spiritualized everything.

I agree with you that this is a huge change for WT. One of the primary reasons for preaching used to be that when the end comes all of those who are not baptized JWs will be destroyed - in spite of the glaring lack of evidence (or even contrary evidence) for their claims. I think that a few consequences of this change in beliefs may be: (1) individual JWs will feel less urgency to go out in the ministry, (2) those associated with the WT will feel less pressured to get baptized, and (3) the WT and individual JWs will be more confident in admitting that they "do not know" about details regarding salvation. I think this is another small step in the WT drifting away from a religious dogma that is tribalistic. It also, very subtlety, acknowledges that for many non JWs there is just not enough evidence for their scriptural claims. I also do not think that any of these changes will affect the field ministry, because the door-to-door work seems pretty fruitless anyway.
With all of that being said, I truly believe that the reason these changes are being made is that the GB realizes they are bleeding members and it is not sustainable to go on with the current business model. They are slowly softening their stance on a number of issues that make the religion distasteful to so many people. They may shake things up and lose some members, but they are losing members now so what do they have to lose? I think they know that some drastic changes need to be made or they will start losing members every year.
Thank you and keep up the great work Wally.

I believe what Lloyd is saying is "If god kills you now, kills you after watching you beg for forgiveness or waits to kill you after a 4 hour slide show of your life's choices, you are still are killed that day" so it not a drastic change in watchtower's doctrine according to Lloyd. Thus watchtower is just muddling the water so some people think they can return to the fold after leaving. Basically throwing a line to former believers to pump up the number of active tithing members. I could be wrong but that is what I take away from Lloyd's perspective.

I used to try so hard to keep alert and awake during those studies; the boring guy at the podium reading in a monotone voice asking a question, the guy with the microphone jogging to a seated sister who would grab it while he still handled it, the fart rippp noise it would make, the overly long answer, me thinking, Jesus Christ, shut the fuck up and get through the paragraph! It was awful. And if you got up to take your child to the restroom everyone would glare at you so sometimes you’d stay in your seat and just focus out the window on a pigeon walking around the lot, daydreaming, wondering if the pigeon’s neck ever ached from all that head motion, then you’d get the giggles, then the kids would think you wanted to play so they’d start to laugh until the husband (the “Head”) would look at us as if he’d kill us, then we’d start again...the brother with the mic running to the same lady...oh god!!! HE is suppose to be perfect so come one Watchtower. Those folks were judged already. The rest of us left have not been judged.

I feel that Jehovah would read people's heart condition once the Great Tribulation starts, jumping back in to save yourself doesn't feel right to me anyway.

I remember when I was a child asking an elder about this. I asked, What about the people who live in jungles or islands where they don’t come in contact with anyone, they’ll die too? I was told they would and not to ask questions like that. I think about it all the time.

Crazy how they can judge a bunch of ppl especially when one of the head elder is out buying 800 in liquor. He's been disfellowshipped but he was literally one of the ones that also said something about tight pants. It's Absolutely hypocritical to say anything like this

i understand both pov’s, i definitely think that this is great we can now wait for evidence and live normally, however my parents said that jehovah in the end would know your thoughts and and it wouldn’t matter anyway because you essentially knew what was right anyway. Maybe that’s what lloyd means giving that a lot of jws think similar to my parents, especially their hall

It IS big deal, but more so for me because of what the adjustment says about "Jehovah." As a PIMI, I looked at every study session as an opportunity to "draw close to God." There are things in the Bible that make you question why God did what he did, but the thought stopping excuse that got me through those doubts was that Jehovah does not make mistakes in judgment. He read hearts so if he caused someone's death, it was because there was no hope for them. It lessened the sickening feeling I had when reading about women and children being slaughtered at God's hand or direction. That is now gone. What they are now saying means that Jehovah knowingly ended innocent people's lives. Children. Infants. The unborn. How is this a loving God? A merciful God? A God you can trust?
In addition to that line of reasoning, the Bible itself states that God found no one righteous or worthy of saving in Noah's day and in Sodom and Gomorrah. So the GB now says the opposite. There COULD have been some who were redeemable, but God killed them anyway and he'll bring them back so it's ok. They are literally disregarding the Bible they claim to follow to the letter! What does the Bible REALLY teach, indeed. 🙄
If JWs see this as an opportunity to slack off without feeling guilt, then good. But I sure hope this wacky theology wakes people up so they can break free of the indoctrination not only the JWs, but the Bible and religion as a whole. It's toxic and divisive.

My JW friend (the only one that speaks to me despite my apostasy) says we do not understand Jehovah and He can do anything He likes, that Jehovah can change his mind like a chameleon 1000 times.

I struggled with this question all the time when I was a JW. Even Christian denominations generally do not have an justified answer for this in my opinion. One of the many reasons I am no longer Christian.

They professed their false prophesies through the literature they published luring in people at the same time who were eventually exploited and manipulated to their benefit and sustenance $$$
Being an active JWS is in fact sharing in their sins, which by god's viewpoint is just as condemning ( Revelation 20:10 )

The Socieities often repeated "new light" surprisingly seems to match up with the need to pick up new members or when they have a problem getting people to join up. This not only goes back to C. T. Russell when he sgtarted it up, it also happened during his reign. Also happens there with every other leader or group of leaders who come in. Also happens repeatedly with their leaders when they have a bump in the road. Didn't start with C. T. Russell, and old C. T. made changes when the Adventist group (Millerites) he originally ran with then ran into their bumps in the road with their apocalyptic teachings from the mid 1800's, and thus begn the 7th Day and the Bible Students. It is a long story that started not long after C. T., it continues until today and the changes to their obvious errors are found no longer satisfactory to their rank and file, but they take action, for the most part, only when their income drops. Then, they wait for the drop off off, hope to gain new members, and hope the people stuck on what they find unacceptible and leave or die off. I can guarantee you, there would be many many unhappy witnesses from early 1975.
