Thought I’d reply to my own message and give my thoughts on it after a few months. Mine would sometimes have issues when running wirelessly with not connecting to CarPlay or the Bluetooth playing up, so I’ve started using the USB connection which I found works flawlessly with two regular drivers, as a benefit I removed the aerial and the whole thing fits in much easier. I was having to plug in for charge anyway. Also turn off the equaliser (set to normal) as it seems to mess with the b&o system

Great video and very helpful. I also have a 2014 RS5 and am in the process of doing this. I have the MMI unit out and began connecting wiring, but I can’t see the climate control plugs - how do I remove the climate control panel? Do I need special tools? Thanks!
Hello! In my car I only have audio source „AMI” and there’s no such thing as „AUX”. Does the adapter presented in the video just add „AUX” as a source in settings once connected or are any additional actions/programming required?
If your car does not come with AUX as standard, you must enable the "green screen" mode and then enable AUX In. Just do a google search for Audi green screen how to and you should find a guide.
I have a 2017 SQ5 and does not have an AUX input option.... what would I do? Also, if I have use the RSNav USB wiring to connect to my iphone and run carplay, can i use the iphone to navigate to the apps i want to use or do i have to use the knob on my panel?
Have a 2014 RS5 cabrio. Did the whole install. Got a TPMS warning on dash screen plus Nav screen is now black. I plugged everything back to stock and no issues. Does Anyone know why this happened? All switches are turned to off per your instruction. Do I need to try a different switch pattern by chance or did something just not get connected properly?
Great video and I got my unit installed so it worked just as you described. Question, I have a 2013 RS5 which has the aux cable installed but I can't figure out how to activate it. Do I need to purchase a VCDS tool from Ross-Tech in order to activate it? I don't have a setup and car button. Thanks
Scott, shoot me an email, (sales@redmistracing.com) not sure what you mean in reference to the setup and car button. The RS5, at least in the U.S., had the Aux input activated from the factory. Other "lesser" models need the VCDS to activate the green screen. I believe Carista can also activate the green screen, possibly OBD Eleven.
Just stumbled on this while I'd been browsing these units elsewhere..... May I ask- these units seem to be either/or, in that they either allow the user to use CarPlay, or the installed MMI. Not both simultaneously. Have I got that right? Only, I often like to listen to the inbuilt radio while navigating; if I was in CarPlay mode, the inbuilt radio would be unavailable I think? Thanks- great video.
I honestly don't know as I haven't listened to the radio in 10 years or more! I'd just use Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, etc...going to be more up to date vs. the OE navigation. But the entire MMI is still "launched" and you can toggle back and forth between the two with the press of the NAV button. So it's in the background. Assuming, as long as the radio is selected, it'd work with CarPlay operational.
How's the phone call quality? Does it echo? RSNAV claims all of these retrofits have this problem unless you switch the BT back to the Audi MMI after making the carplay connection.
If you can go into the menu and tell me what version of MMI you have, I can probably give you an answer. I would think yes as the main interface box had multiple Audi vehicles mentioned.
Just installed this in my 2014 RS5 successfully the other day, thanks to your video. Every time I move the scroll wheel on the left side of the steering wheel, my center screen between the dials switches to "external device connected" and always have to switch back to the digital speedometer by pressing the the 'mode' button on the wheel. Did you or anyone else have this issue and how did you solve it if so?
It's through a new feature in iOS 13 on the iPhone, a script run through automation. There are a few how to's on the internet and it's fairly easy. You have to set it up through the scripting program and it's triggered when CarPlay launches.
Do you have climate control overlay when you are in Carplay mode? That was my expectation because of the connection to it but I don't see it. Just checking to make sure I did it correctly. Thank you.
This tutorial is amazing. Thank you so much for posting. I am about to purchase this. I’m sorry if this has been asked already. Will it be the same process on a 2013 A5 S-Line? I have Nav and the back up camera. Does Siri and the oem backup camera work well? Thanks again!
Has anyone had issues with the original square MMI connector not fitting all the way into the carplay splitter? Mine goes most of the way in but is definitely not able to move any further, no matter what I tried.
No delay at all honestly. Amazon used to carry it but they stopped so you'll have to go through RS Nav to get one. I'd stick with the stock screen models, like the one I used as they see to be the most bug free. I've had mine for 3 years now and no issues.
Great video! Thank you for posting. I saw on the forums originally you were looking at the 8.8” screen version. What was your deciding factor to this one? I want to keep the piano black trim. Not sure if that’s possible with that kit. I’ve messaged Daniel about it. Cheers!
That's exactly why I went with this kit, I wanted to keep the trim matching. I believe Daniel said it wasn't possible. I looked at a carbon fiber version but the cost was too high to justify it.
Forgot to mention how to remove climate control panel and unplug climate cable before removing media center with keys, very easy to remove, pry climate panel open from bottom left hole (use a litte force)
I’m having an issue getting audio. I know you mentioned getting into the green screen but I can’t figure it out. I’m also connecting a mmi cable in the glove box and getting nothing. CarPlay shows up, just no audio. HELP!!
Mine been working and just stops working , removed the glove box and the light are flashing normally in the retrofit , but still can't find it when searching by wifi or bluetooth , any solutions ?
I've had one or two times when I I had to completely disconnect my iPhone and remove it from the CarPlay menu and then start over, connecting the iPhone from scratch. Have you tried that?
They may or may not have a model for a 2009, just depends on what MMI system you have. You'd need to reach out to any of the vendors to figure that out.
Hey there thanks for the video. I installed mine today however I didn’t get an external audio input cable like you did in the video. I did get a cable that I plugged into the box and had a usb on the end of it. Do I need to buy an external aux cable like the one you have in the video? Thanks for your help
RS5 Fanatic thank you for the reply! My final question would be, does it matter what time of this cable? I see there are female and male adapters as well as ones with lightning cable and usb in the end as well. I want to make sure I get the right one!
I recently installed the interface but it won't start ? I have no AMI connector in my glove box, but an aux connector in my mid consol. When I start the mmi I can't choose AUX but the Interface won't start by pressing the NAV button. Can someone help me
Cannot use the existing bluetooth or USB (at least in the RS5) as the CarPlay module now occupies the USB slot if that makes sense. Front and rear cameras should work, I did not make any changes other than plugging the appropriate cables into the CarPlay unit. I only have a rear camera and it works exactly the same as it did prior.
One question for you! So I really enjoy the Bang & Olufsen sound settings/tuning in the MMI menu (especially the sound directing towards driver), is this feature still functional in the background while CarPlay is running?
Hi i want to ask u, i am writting from Turkey, i am looking for car play too and did lots ps search, there are many people having videos like you all around ; installing performance screen over light buttom, between air blowers by passenger side etc. My service here and people i ask here says me to stay away such a things likes this cause electric system can make a chassis and burn, u may use your mod 2-3 years with no proplem but who knows after that electric cables can burn and my service said they fix a car who had chassis prop and man spent 1000 $ to restore; So i cought in middle should i install carplay screen or not

So make sure it's the correct version for your MMI and it has the features you want. www.amazon.com/Compatible-2010-2019-Multimedia-Wireless-Mirrorig/dp/B0BNJ25XW7/ref=sr_1_9?crid=1UNH2VXO14T4&keywords=Wireless%2Bcarplay%2BAudi%2BS5&qid=1689949455&sprefix=wireless%2Bcarplay%2Baudi%2Bs5%2Caps%2C195&sr=8-9&th=1
Hi, many thanks for your detailed video. Clearly I can see it has helped others users as well as myself when installing these retrofit modules.
I wanted to check, I ordered my unit from Eurostyletunning, all works well except the sound in right speakers is low on sound, quality and bass from the left speakers. Is this something you have ovserved too? It creates unpleasant music experience and then I tried adjusting balance but it doesnt help much or lower sound quality.
Any tips on this would help.
Thanks
I haven't experienced that myself to be honest. Could possibly be a damaged speaker.
@@RS5Fanatic Thanks
The speaker is fine as when I play a CD or Radio the voice is perfect. Its this new Retrofit module that is doing this.
Will check with seller
Thanks alot
Great video and very helpful. I also have a 2014 RS5 and am in the process of doing this. I have the MMI unit out and began connecting wiring, but I can’t see the climate control plugs - how do I remove the climate control panel? Do I need special tools? Thanks!
No special tools. Just pull straight back and it comes out. Once out, you have better access to the plugs.
RS5 Fanatic THANKS!
holy molly, best video ever
@@RS5Fanatic thanks! Worked perfectly fine! Awesome tutorial video
How long did it take to ship?
What were you doing wrong until you were able to get it to work?
I did not turn off the Audi Bluetooth. Needs to use the RS Nav bluetooth.
Did you put the new black box behind the MMI unit?
Correct. Tons of space in the RS5 but it's still a tight fit with the wiring.
@@RS5Fanatic Thanks!
Hi,can you watch a music videos(youtube)during the drive on that screen?I also have A5 but sportback.
How's the phone call quality? Does it echo?
RSNAV claims all of these retrofits have this problem unless you switch the BT back to the Audi MMI after making the carplay connection.
Hi can you please give us link from where to buy that unit
I have Audi Q7 s line plus with MMI plus system
Great install vid, tx! Question: Does your OEM backup camera + guides still work as expected?
Yes it does, works exactly as it did before.
There is a front camera as well from china, you reckon it will work as well?
@@Exray737 I can't say for sure, would need to contact RS Nav to find out.
would you or anyone be able to tell me if this is compatible with 2014 audi allroad?
5:10 didn't see allroad from this list.
If you can go into the menu and tell me what version of MMI you have, I can probably give you an answer. I would think yes as the main interface box had multiple Audi vehicles mentioned.
RS5 Fanatic HN+_US_AU3G_K0942_3
@@romayojr Yes, should work! I believe I have exactly the same.
@@RS5Fanatic awesome. thanks man! i'll keep you posted on here if i decide to order one
Same on mine. I monitor the oil temps 100% of the time so I'm always forced to click back if I use the left wheel.
Hello what if the car does not have the ami plug in the glove box?
If that's the case, I believe you cannot use this system. Not 100% positive though so please check with the manufacturer.
Hey. Where did you get those shift paddle extensions from? Ideally a link.
www.pinalloy.com
Hey man, when i talk on phone via carplay, other side says their voice echoes back to them. Did you experience this or know how to tackle it?
There is something in the setup software that you can adjust and try to make it better.
Since it uses Wifi to connect since I have a dash cam that uses WiFi will both be able to connect?
Hey , how did you get your car to greet you?? I find that so cool! Awesome video!
It's through a new feature in iOS 13 on the iPhone, a script run through automation. There are a few how to's on the internet and it's fairly easy. You have to set it up through the scripting program and it's triggered when CarPlay launches.
Can you provide a link to buy this product? Thanks

Than was quick. Thanks!
@@djrx2 Most welcome!
Wow… super helpful!
Do you have climate control overlay when you are in Carplay mode? That was my expectation because of the connection to it but I don't see it. Just checking to make sure I did it correctly. Thank you.
Where did you purchase the AMI Audi Cable for the glove box? Thanks
You can get them off of Amazon for a few $$$
Thanks for sharing this guide.
Do you have any idea if this will work on Audi A4 B8.5 2013?
Thanks!
Should work for the 2013!
Has anyone found a way to make this work on a 2008 Audi A5 3.2l?
This tutorial is amazing. Thank you so much for posting. I am about to purchase this. I’m sorry if this has been asked already. Will it be the same process on a 2013 A5 S-Line? I have Nav and the back up camera. Does Siri and the oem backup camera work well? Thanks again!
Should be the same installation process. And yes, Siri and backup camera both work!
Has anyone had issues with the original square MMI connector not fitting all the way into the carplay splitter? Mine goes most of the way in but is definitely not able to move any further, no matter what I tried.
Good question...you may want to check out the RS Nav Facebook group. Large user group there and they may be able to answer your question.
How responsive is this? Do you notice a delay with carplay?
No delay at all honestly. Amazon used to carry it but they stopped so you'll have to go through RS Nav to get one. I'd stick with the stock screen models, like the one I used as they see to be the most bug free. I've had mine for 3 years now and no issues.
You said you were doing Carplay installation. What did you do that makes it different from Android auto installation. Thank you.
Nothing really...I'm just using an iPhone.
@@RS5Fanatic Thank you. Installed mine on Friday. How do you answer calls since it's not a touch screen?
@@TeeFat You use the center console MMI controls.
What paddle extensions are those?

Great video! Thank you for posting. I saw on the forums originally you were looking at the 8.8” screen version. What was your deciding factor to this one? I want to keep the piano black trim. Not sure if that’s possible with that kit. I’ve messaged Daniel about it. Cheers!
That's exactly why I went with this kit, I wanted to keep the trim matching. I believe Daniel said it wasn't possible. I looked at a carbon fiber version but the cost was too high to justify it.
@@RS5Fanatic thank you!!
Forgot to mention how to remove climate control panel and unplug climate cable before removing media center with keys, very easy to remove, pry climate panel open from bottom left hole (use a litte force)
Removing the climate panel at the end and moving the media cables down makes it easier to push media player back in
The climate control can just be pulled straight forward and out with plugs attached. Can remove them after the fact.
I’m having an issue getting audio. I know you mentioned getting into the green screen but I can’t figure it out. I’m also connecting a mmi cable in the glove box and getting nothing. CarPlay shows up, just no audio. HELP!!
hey i got the same issue, did you manage to figure it out, let me know!
The funny jokes you put into this are great haha!
On the dial code part, I didn’t see on the chart a line that says S4, would the code be the same on the S4 as on the A4?
I would assume so if they're the same MMI system.
Is there discount if we buy from your link? Or buying more than 1?
No unfortunately, I have zero affiliation with RS Nav or any other CarPlay vendor. Just a consumer like you!
Would this work on a 2009 Audi A5 as well?
They may or may not have a model for a 2009, just depends on what MMI system you have. You'd need to reach out to any of the vendors to figure that out.
@@RS5Fanatic thanks for the reply. I will reach out to them
I don’t have a nav button. Guess I can’t get this
They may have a different model which'll work with your vehicle. Just go to the RSNav website and see what is available.
Hey there thanks for the video. I installed mine today however I didn’t get an external audio input cable like you did in the video. I did get a cable that I plugged into the box and had a usb on the end of it. Do I need to buy an external aux cable like the one you have in the video? Thanks for your help
Yes you do. Can get a cheap one off of Amazon.com!
RS5 Fanatic thank you for the reply! My final question would be, does it matter what time of this cable? I see there are female and male adapters as well as ones with lightning cable and usb in the end as well. I want to make sure I get the right one!
@@riotshockey9 Just get the USB version. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005G81J5Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
do you think its possible to retrofit a virtual cockpit into the RS5?
It'd need to be designed from the ground up to do so. I would imagine it would be incredibly complicated and very, very pricey.
Is it avaible for 2016 A4,
Yes, should be.
I recently installed the interface but it won't start ?
I have no AMI connector in my glove box, but an aux connector in my mid consol.
When I start the mmi I can't choose AUX but the Interface won't start by pressing the NAV button.
Can someone help me

@RS5 fanatic Cant we use existing Bluetooth mic & USB & also will my existing back and front camera work. I have Audi Q7, 2012 .Please comment
Excellent! 🙂
One question for you! So I really enjoy the Bang & Olufsen sound settings/tuning in the MMI menu (especially the sound directing towards driver), is this feature still functional in the background while CarPlay is running?
It is. There is an option to use the EQ which comes with the CarPlay unit but you don't have to use it and it keeps the B&O active eq functioning.
Hi i want to ask u, i am writting from Turkey, i am looking for car play too and did lots ps search, there are many people having videos like you all around ; installing performance screen over light buttom, between air blowers by passenger side etc. My service here and people i ask here says me to stay away such a things likes this cause electric system can make a chassis and burn, u may use your mod 2-3 years with no proplem but who knows after that electric cables can burn and my service said they fix a car who had chassis prop and man spent 1000 $ to restore; So i cought in middle should i install carplay screen or not
Modern electronics are fairly robust these days, based on what I'm hearing with the larger screens are just fine. Any electronic product can fail, no matter how complicated, or uncomplicated it is. If it's a big worry, then the unit I installed uses all the factory components including the screen.
Excellent video!
