RSNAV unfortunately seemed to discontinue the unit --- Here is a link to ECS which offers a very similar unit! Same install procedure!

I bought ECS unit you posted in your description. Let me answer some questions here to help with the parts i struggled with.
Our cables are different. we do not do anything with the hvac cable. We instead have a wire that runs to the inner top left of the glove box (you must remove it). Youll see where the brown plug goes into a little black plastic unit. and stock wire goes to harness.
The dip switch is different. I have the same model mmi as this video. They should all be up, and number 4 down.
The big cable is same, and the video signal cable precedure is the same.
There are some extra wires to stuff in there, as you'll easily notice theyre optional and go to extra cameras and stuff
To make audio work, u must go to media and select aux source. Then itll work. Even in the background while navigating the cars stock system.
To get to the car play, just hold INFO for 2 sec.
This is awesome, thank you!! Pinning comment
@@griffenaddie awesome. I know someone will end up here like me. Totally worth it. Not as hard as it looks. And the description says android auto only works wired, but that is absolutely bs. Mine connected on bt and works on Android auto no problem at all.
@@Hopelessthuggwould the unit you bought be able to work properly on a 2010 Audi A4?
@tehamijamil2371 yes. There are just different switch configurations u must flip on the box based on what year and nav system you've got etc.
Does android auto run well on the unit?
This is honestly the best tutorial I've ever seen about cars. No fancy words, no fancy tools. Just a guy with a goal. Thank you for it.
haha that's so nice!! appreciate the comment
How your car on with no fob in the slot
This is a great supplement to the horrible/nonexistent documentation that comes with the RSNav system. My unit is newer and a little bit different, but this video was a great help and I couldn't have done my installation without it. Thanks!
Good video. I have an RS5 B8 Quattro and have been looking for this exact setup. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Clear and to the point with no attitude and showmanship.
Thanks!
My man is going to heaven because this is one of the best videos i've watched for tutorial 👌👌
Love the way, this Broski explains everything!!!! in a layman's way so everyone can understand it.. I wish everyone on RUclips would explain everything this easy.. Thank You Griffen Addie
yooo thank you!! that was my goal
@@griffenaddie I kinda want to do this to my B8.5 allroad now. lol
@@Kiss__Kiss Should totally do it! it completely changes the feeling of the car. Much more modern. Link in description to an Amazon version that has super quick shipping and is compatible with your car!
Bro you're the goat great video tutorial man. Just purchased my first Audi today. Got a 2013 Audi A4 with 66K miles on it. It doesn't get any better than this video.
Thanks man!! Sounds like you got a great car.. you will love this .. makes it way more modern
This is awesome! Thanks for taking the time to work this through - now to install in my 14 S4. Thanks again man!

Amazing tutorial. Gave me the confidence to try this out!

Excellent tutorial! Best one I've seen on this subject. Gave me the confidence to give it a go.
thats so nice of you! appreciate the kind words. Good luck!!
Thanks for making the video. Huge help while adding this to the B8 S4 today. The Carlinkit wireless CarPlay is worth every penny! Huge upgrade and installs quickly. Cheers 🍻
love to hear that this video helped! Thanks for sharing. Totally elevates the car. You will wish you had done this sooner!
Do you need to plug in your phone eveytime you get into the car to access Apple CarPlay
Oh my god. Thank you so much brother! This is the best video I've ever seen about anything for an Audi aftermarket part
Aw thanks! Glad it helps

Well done great video just installed mine yet to do a test before placing all back together.
awesome video man... this helped me seal the deal in wanting to buy a 2012 A4 Wagon thanks!
This is the best. ordering this right away for my 2010 a4 avant

How did it go?
You are a legend sir. Thank you.
You are a good. I will be trying this in my girlfriend's 2012 Audi A4. Thank you so much. Keep doing what you're doing.
I have a 2012 a4 was it all the same?
did it work?
Wow I was worried about how to do my 13 A4 and google got intimidating but your video was helpful as hell
Thanks for the kind words! It’s a great mod
Great video, very helpful!
Did you disconnect the battery first before starting the installation? Some installation guides recommend it, as will also prevent you needing to clear codes (?) if the power is on whilst components are disconnected. The car manual however warns that windows me need resetting if battery is disconnected, so don't want to muck about with battery unless necessary
Thank you for the video. The others (also from the company itself) are trash. You helped me a lot and gave me confodence to do it by my own and it worked perfectly 😊
ah so glad to hear that!!! its been awesome to know this video is helping others install it
Stumbled on this in researching Apple Carplay for the 2016 A4 Audi Allroad I just purchased yesterday, same dashboard as the one you show. Incredibly kind and generous of you sharing your expertise and time! With 3G being phased out, already is in many areas, does this effect the carplay wireless interface unit which mentions that it's tied into 3G?
Hi! Thanks for the kind words- so the 3G being referred to is actually the MMI(Audi term for stereo) version. Essentially in older cars is was called 2g mmi, then in newer cars 3gMMI, then 3g+MMI. The wireless CarPlay will work great in your car! This system works with anything above 2Gmmi. (Typically 2011 and newer)
Thnx! works great. Easy install using your vid. Have a nice day and again thnx.
This man is a legend
Ha thanks!
Wonderful details tgis helps!
Awesome video man! The best I've seen so far. I'm so glad I found your video. But quick question, does it have a wire for USBC like an Android phone? If so, mine sending the link. Thanks so much!
Thanks so much! The version I made in the video does have a female usb wire that you could connect a android wire to. BUT the current version on the rsnav website is wireless so no wire is needed
@@griffenaddie that's even better! Thanks again
Thanks for your help!
Super video watched a few that kind of made sense one thing is you did not mention the use of the AMI lead in the glovebox and switching to connect wirelessly ??
the system I installed here is wired rather than wireless. Just left the MMI to aux connected in the glove box . ( I think leaving the aux plugged in but not connected to anything is a necessary step)
Best video man. Good job
Thanks!
Great video! Tho i have 2 questions, does the rear view camera shows on the screen when put in reverse on a carplay? And do you always have to connect your phone to the car in order to work? If so I dont see the use in these it will drain the phone battery and I could just put a phone in the phone holder while using stock audis operation, right?
Very helpful!
Hey man, firstly thanks for a great video. I've never taken apart an Audi media console before but after clear detailed steps in your video I feel pretty comfortable with it.
Quick question, are there any instances or varients of a 2016 q5 that this device doesn't support?
I'm assuming this device takes audio through the aux input signal, is this dependant on a factory aux input in the media menu? If the q5 doesn't have factory aux option in the media menu, will using the Ami adapter simply allow aux to function as required for this device or does adding Ami aux cable require some sort of coding or activation?
Thanks again
hey! thanks for the compliment. On Rsnav's website I see two options for a 2016 q5. so make sure you order the right screen size(7 or 8.3 inch). You can always email RSnav before hand to ensure it'll fit with your exact car. It does take audio through Aux, but you have to leave a aux cord plugged into the glovebox but just not connected to anything. Then it will all go through either bluetooth or your corded system. No coding necessary, you just use the oem "media" button. Your car is slightly different/newer than mine. apologies if I cant answer all of the questions. All in all, if you order the specific one for your car, there should be no coding necessary, just plug and play.
Thanks a bunch! My module quit working and I think I'll upgrade to this Android-Auto version.
amazing tutorial and to connect your phone you just connect it to any transmitter? or by bluetooth?
This is a reale reale good video!!!!
thanks so much!
Hi there, thanks for the video. Do you know if there’s any option available to get wireless CarPlay on a 2011 s4?
Very informative video man !
Do you get music Bluetooth as well ?
If you get a new kit you will. I got mine used from someone so it was the "old" version that was wired only. Now they only sell wireless
Nice detailed video! Does it affect your B&O sound system quality? Does the adjustments from Media still apply to when using CarPlay?
The sound is exactly like OEM, no difference. The media adjustments still work!
Awesome video step by step thanks
Thanks!
Might be a stupid question but can anyone advise me whether CarPlay will be compatabile with the Audi CD changer MMI as appose to Symphony, Multimedia or Concert? I have a 2008 Audi A4 B8 if that helps. Thanks
Quality content
wow, Best tutorial, thanks
Best video for this hands down
thank you so much!! means a ton
Thanks for the tutorial! Was very helpful. I tried installing mine today (2013 B8.5 Audi S4). I have the strangest of issues - my MMI does not show up but carplay works.Upon searching, it’s been the opposite issue for many people (carplay does not showing up). I have all switches to off position FWIW. Tried disconnecting the LVDS cable and installing the audi one back - then MMI shows back up. Any ideas?
One possible solution- once you have everything connected properly, double check that the mmi-aux cord is still plugged in. you should still have the mmi-to-aux plugged in the glovebox and leading to nothing(not plugged into a phone). but mmi-to-aux must be plugged into the mmi glovebox spot
I ve got same problem, did you solve it?
@@bruxmeister yes- got the lvds cable replaced and that fixed it
Hey there, I just picked up a 2009 Audi a4 Quattro and thinking of doing the same, does the apple car play you installed let you do Bluetooth music now? Awesome explaining and video too!
Hey Griffen,
thank you for this video.
If you use navigation, do you see the navigation arrows in the gauge cluster as well (Google maps navigation for example) just like in the stock navigation system?
I must admit, I think I only used the oem navigation once or twice. I usually just used my phone with Apple Maps or Waze. With the RSNAV it does not use the front gauge cluster arrows like the oem navigation would. BUT, you can choose full screen navigation/half screen ect. through car play center screen
heya thx for this video....do you know if the newer version that is wireless uses the existing bluetooth and does it need a hotspot from your phone to work? my existing bluetooth is kinda jacked and i currently use a echo auto for bluetooth. Hoping the phone just ends up connecting to the rsnav box. Do you know? Also for the wired version you have does it charge the phone when plugged in>
Hello! from my understanding if you have a b8.5 (has bluetooth music) it uses the existing Bluetooth music that comes with the car. Although, if you have a b8(bluetooth phone calls but no bluetooth music) I'm not quite sure. If anybody knows, feel free to drop a comment
It’s seems that I need the AMI cable. Do you have a video showing how that should be installed using this unit?
Honestly really good tutorial gave me the confidence to give it a go. How much did everyone buy theirs for not tryna overpay it’s currently 270$
thanks! Check out Facebook marketplace or craigslist. I got mine (in video) I think for around $150 used? cant quite remember
Hello! What did you plug your phone into to get onto the carplay screen? and does the carplay work if the phones unplugged?
Hey bro great video! Super easy and well explained. Do you think I can do this w my Audi A5 2009 3.2L Quattro?
yes! just ensure you have a MMI that is capable
Excellent tutorial! I have the same S4 without Nav and backup camera which I want to integrate. My controllers are on the dash instead of the console. I presume you don't have to code anything just plug and play?
yes just plug and play! I know they sell the back up camera, but am not to sure if that needs coding in or if it is relatively simple.. just make sure you order for your specific car and MMI!
I followed your video to the letter but it doesn't work, I have some other cables in the box that I don't know what to do with. Are there any settings I need to change? B8.5 A4 with mmi
I scrolled through the comments but didn’t see this question.
While in CarPlay mode does the climate control stuff still come on the screen when you’re adjusting say the fan speed or seat heater?
Thanks! Super helpful video! I was considering doing an iPad dash until I saw this.
great question!
-the fan, temp, and heat seater does not come up on screen like normal. But, I did not find it to be a problem as it still adjusts just like normal and displays on the lower red led screen right next to the controls.
So you can still see temp, fan speed etc it just doesn't display on the upper screen when you are using CarPlay
Nice Tutorial i loved it. I have one question does the streeringwheel functions normaly work with the carplay in an Audi A3. I saw a video and the man in the video sad the Streeringwheel functions does not work anymore because of the carplay device. thanks for the help.
Hi, thank you! Not entirely sure if the functions work for an A3. I only have experience using this on my personal S4 and friends s4's. never on an a3.. sorry. Could email Daniel Kim at rsnav to see!
Hi, many thanks for your detailed video. Clearly I can see it has helped others users as well as myself when installing these retrofit modules.
I wanted to check, I ordered my unit from Eurostyletunning, all works well except the sound in right speakers is low on sound, quality and bass from the left speakers. Is this something you have ovserved too? It creates unpleasant music experience and then I tried adjusting balance but it doesnt help much or lower sound quality.
Any tips on this would help.
Thanks
ah so sorry to hear that! No that is not something I experienced, but I ordered from RSNAV. sorry to hear that and that I can't help more.. I would check all the connections again?
Thank you for the incredibly helpful video! I just unboxed mine, and it has a ground wire on the large plugs for the head unit. Do know if I need to worry about/ground it somewhere? Thanks!
If there is an easy ground I would say go for it. I don’t Believe mine needed grounding and worked flawlessly!
@@griffenaddie Thank you!!
Thanks for the video but I am so confused because looking at the rsnav wiki manual. They talk about taking kit glove box to get to the can bus junction or soemthing? Is that optional.... Your way seems so much easier by using the climate control... but I am a bit confused why there manual goes the hard way?
hmmm to be honest, I am not too sure about the other way you mentioned! The only thing relevant around the glove box is that you need to have a MMI to aux plugged into the output in the glovebox (does not need to be connected to anything just plugged into the glovebox)
@@griffenaddie Well i will be going your way for sure, the manuals they provide are the most difficult thing to follow, so thank you for taking time to make this
Hey man I have a 2011 Audi a5 cabriolet with pretty similar design as your control area. Do you think the new link you put in your description will work with it? How do I check if it’s a b8 etc or is that an Rs specific thing? Thank you
Hey when looking at RSnavs site it says NOT FOR CONCERT or SYMPHONY or 2G MMI or 3G MMI Basic. I saw in a comment you said you only needed 2G. I have a 2013 Audi S4 and was wondering if it will work only having 2g MMI along with navigation? Thanks!
Hi, 2Gmmi I do not believe will work with this... Email RSNav to double check as you have NAV... So cant say for certain.. Sorry!
Mine is a 2010 A4 SE and does not come with the built in Nav that your car have hence there isn't any NAV button either. Also my mmi is Audi Symphony. How can I use the same rsnav as yours but in my car?
you can go on rsnav.com and get one that is configured to your car and mmi system
hey man, is there anything like this for an audi a4 b8 without a mmi syster? i got my audi screen controls above the ac unit
yes! I believe you can order a system tailored to your specific car. Just choose that option on rsnav.com. And if you're not seeing it email support for help
Did you get those 2x radio remover tools with the RSNav?
no- bought on amazon for $5
Would you say this is relatively the same process for a 2014 S4? My OEM mmi Module stopped working and dealership quoted me about 5k for a new module plus labour. Also wanted to ask if the 2014 s4 (b8.5) would require an AMI cable or not if you do know. Thanks
I believe the new RSNAV is bluetooth. You would need a MMI to aux cable in theglovebox but it can be attached to no phone and just stay there. if your entire MMI system stopped working it could be a deeper problem. Not sure. would try to get the codes and research the problem
Very helpful video. Does the wired connection charge the phone? Waze can drain the phone on long drives. Does Spotify keep playing when you return to Mmi functions?
yes it does charge the phone! just a bit slower than an actual wall charger.. yes-- Spotify keeps paying even if you switch back to normal MMI functions
Hey Griffen, do you know if i were to install the newer wireless kit is there any additional steps in the install process? Also i feel like i have seen people mention issues id the old apple connect cord in the glove box is not plugged into something does is just need to be connected to any attachment? Thanks in advance and awesome tutorial was super helpful.
I have never installed a wireless version, but, I think that there may be an antenna that would go in along with the box. The new wireless version does give some feedback echo when talking on the phone. And yes you have to keep an "aux" output plugged into the "aux" mmi in the glovebox. I think that just ensures proper sound while playing music. I can say, with my system- the music sounds exactly the same playing through the RSNAV as it did from the mmi aux from the glovebox
if u instal this mod can u use the original nav? seccond question if u have the option of the nav in ure cluster like go left with the arrow do that stil works?
you can still choose to use the cars navigation. If using CarPlay navigation you won't get the dash arrows.
I have the same set up but I’m having a hard time getting it into CarPlay. I was able to get into the CarPlay version once but can’t seem to get it back. All I have is the default resnav selection with google maps and various apps. I’ve only had the car a week so it’s possible I haven’t completely figured it out but I thought it would be easier to do. Stumped atm!
strange! Make sure you are selecting CarPlay. and holding all the buttons etc correctly.
Does this work with an 2013 a4? I have a backup camera and system in my glovebox but it only works for for phone calls etc. I only have the concert stereo though
it may work. Check this article out. hifimax.net/blog/how-do-i-know-if-my-audi-mmi-is-2g-or-3g
if you have anything above 2g mmi it will work!
thanks for the incredible information.
i wonder if i can hear the car radio when i have waze on screen, then waze notifications interrupt the radio like in new cars.
you can hear the car oem radio with Waze up, although you would not be able to hear the Waze notifications then
thanks
Do you know if they offer this kit for Android?
so would this one work for the MMI 2G high? i have a 2009 B8 A5 with the radio controls by the gear selector
I believe you need 3g mmi
just to be sure the one that you buy from (ecstuning) comes with two cables(red and white) like the grey and the yellow one(that we need to not touch)in the video, do we have to use both of the cables or just one (those who come with the unit when u buy it) ?
Hey! Reach out to ECS and they will support this question. I don’t won’t to give wrong info
So you no longer can check your Oil level and reset tpsm and use all those features from before if you add the car appleplay right? Wouldn’t that be a huge negative thing?
How is the sound quality via Bluetooth compared to some high-end FM transmitters (which are still pretty disappointing) or compared to MMI Bluetooth Adapter?
Sound quality is very good! Same as oem Bluetooth OR aux
You're apple play module looks different than the one on the RSNAV link you shared. Once I order it will it change or am I missing something I have a 2012 S4 with NAV. B8.
Hi, yes the link picture is different, but it is the standalone unit just like the video. Except it is now a wireless version as they don't make the wired anymore. (I don't have any affiliation with RSnav so not sure about the ordering charge etc)
Any idea if this would work in a base model A4 B8. My car doesn't have Bluetooth, navigation or anything like that. I can't even enable the green screen
Just check the MMI version. If it’s over 3G+ it will work
This is how you make a tutorial!
I have an 2014 RS5 would this work with it as well, or do I need to look at another model?
Hello, I believe you can order a system thats compatible with your car on RSNAV.com. Just make sure you go through the menus and match your car model/year and MMI system with the drop down menus on their website!
@Michael Parker nice car !
Great video and I got my unit installed so it worked just as you described. Question, I have a 2013 RS5 which has the aux cable installed but I can't figure out how to activate it. Do I need to purchase a VCDS tool for $200 from Ross-Tech in order to get to the green screen and activate it? I don't have a setup and car button. Thanks
Hi Scott,
could you explain what you mean by activate the aux ? Can you not get the RSNav to active CarPlay?
Try holding the NAV button
@@griffenaddie Thanks for the reply Griffen. I don't have any problems getting CarPlay to start as you noted by holding the Nav button, I just can't get any sound since I don't have the ability to select the auxiliary audio input from any of the menus on MMI even though the cable is installed. From other feedback, it looks like I need an OB2 dongle so I can activate it from there which access the "green screen" which I can't get to otherwise. Some are able to get it by holding down "setup" and "car" but I don't have a "setup" button. Others use "car" and "menu" but that didn't work for me either.
@@scottmahl2352 hmmm.... I See. Last thought before going that route would be-- do you have an MMI output in your glovebox? If so make sure there is a MMI to aux plugged into the output (and just leave it in the glovebox plugged in. No need to have the aux actually plugged into anything). Besides that I would search around on audizine to see if there is any other solution besides the VCDS. I do remember hearing some variations specifically with the RS5 about the green screen troubles but am not as familiar with RS5's .... Hope you get it solved! Let me know what fixes it! Good luck
I’ve found an amazing a5 coupe that’s fully spec’d out. How does this system hold out long term? Thanks for the video bud.
It’s great ! Worked perfectly while I had it
Have you had any problems with the RSNAV UNIT being so tight? Many people in other tutorials warn about the need to place them in a ventilated areadue to equipment warming.
I had no issues. Yes it is tight, but could make the space and sort of jam it in there. Had no overheating or any issues even on 3+ hour long drives with it on the whole time
would the unit you linked in the description fit on 2010 Audi A4?
Is it a B8?
Hi, can you give me the exact model ans brand of this équipement? I have exactly the same car and i watts to install it but to be sure I prefere install exactly the same kit in the same car.
Thank's a lot for your answer and your incredible tutorial.

only difference is they don't sell the wired version anymore! just wireless
is the carplay automatic once you reenter the car? or do you have to do the hold nav every time you re enter the car?
you have to hold down the button every time
I have a 2013 q5, same installation process? Thanks for the great video.
I’m interested as well
should be more or less the same, just make sure to get one for your specific car if you can to ensure it is correct
Good to go. 👍
awesome!!
Hello, great video but I have one question. Can I listen to music via Bluetooth(on RUclips from my phone) and have Waze on the screen?
not sure tbh! I would think so - but not entirely sure
Thabks Brodie I got a 2012 a4 and wanted to know how to get car play without rendering the old software and all the buttons useless
I would love to see how and that it works. Like playing music from spotify and then getting a phone call, answer it and end the call. Does it all work that it go’s automatically back to spotify?
Yeah it’s pretty seamless. Everything works pretty well. Phone calls can be echoing sometimes , but overall it is a really seamless system that I’d highly recommend. I’m not associated with it, make no money from any sales etc, just loved it in my personal car and thought it made such a huge difference!
Great Video! Will this work if my Audi has the buttons not under the gear shifter but under the vents in the front dash (Audi Concert). 2010 A5 thanks!
I believe you can -- BUT first check your MMI version and check RSnav website to makes sure its compatible
@@griffenaddie How do I check my MMI version? Thanks
@@KDMND should be able to access this by going to the software and checking current version in your MMI.
is an aux cord from the glovebox still required to be plugged in or does the blue tooth from the apple car play automatically connect once you start/turn the car and system on ? I have a 2011 b8
I had the wired CarPlay version, BUT from my understanding when you start the car, it automatically connects to Bluetooth. although you should still keep a mmi-to-aux plug in the glovebox(connected to nothing) just for proper sound quality
@@griffenaddie understood thank you! I am looking for something that is completely bluetooth. I have not have much luck with the AMI/MMI bluetooth ones that go in the glovebox what would you recommend ?
@@jamespressley8683 RSNav's version on their website is bluetooth! I think they stopped selling the wired version about 1.5 years ago. so if you get it from their website it will be bluetooth capable!
The ECS unit has a can bus. Is it necessary to plug in since this one didnt use one?
Cannot confirm. Please contact ECS
