This is honestly the best tutorial I've ever seen about cars. No fancy words, no fancy tools. Just a guy with a goal. Thank you for it.
haha that's so nice!! appreciate the comment
How your car on with no fob in the slot
My man is going to heaven because this is one of the best videos i've watched for tutorial 👌👌
Bro you're the goat great video tutorial man. Just purchased my first Audi today. Got a 2013 Audi A4 with 66K miles on it. It doesn't get any better than this video.
Thanks man!! Sounds like you got a great car.. you will love this .. makes it way more modern
This is a great supplement to the horrible/nonexistent documentation that comes with the RSNav system. My unit is newer and a little bit different, but this video was a great help and I couldn't have done my installation without it. Thanks!
Good video. I have an RS5 B8 Quattro and have been looking for this exact setup. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Clear and to the point with no attitude and showmanship.
Thanks!
Love the way, this Broski explains everything!!!! in a layman's way so everyone can understand it.. I wish everyone on RUclips would explain everything this easy.. Thank You Griffen Addie
yooo thank you!! that was my goal

@@Kiss__Kiss Should totally do it! it completely changes the feeling of the car. Much more modern. Link in description to an Amazon version that has super quick shipping and is compatible with your car!
Bro honestly the only one to help me finish this install everyone else always with a different version. You only missed explaining were to put the WiFi signal bar. Saw on another video to just stick it at the bottom of the metal peace. Hope that helps someone else. Such a great add on it was all the car was missing.

thats so nice of you! appreciate the kind words. Good luck!!
This is awesome! Thanks for taking the time to work this through - now to install in my 14 S4. Thanks again man!

Well done, I just bought at 2012 S5, I have a bluetooth adaptor right now, but this is definitely a future mod.
Do it!! totally changes the car
@@griffenaddie Prob going to do it, the bluetooth adaptor bugs out at times.
@@colleptic yup, I have the bovvee bluetooth prior to this as well. So worth the change
Thanks for making the video. Huge help while adding this to the B8 S4 today. The Carlinkit wireless CarPlay is worth every penny! Huge upgrade and installs quickly. Cheers 🍻
love to hear that this video helped! Thanks for sharing. Totally elevates the car. You will wish you had done this sooner!
Do you need to plug in your phone eveytime you get into the car to access Apple CarPlay
Men, I think I fall in love with you. I was searching a way to upragde my Audi A4 just too make it more modern because I'm sick of the AUX cord. Thank you very much ❤️
HAHA glad I could help!! this totally changes the car's "modern" feeling and updates it. You'll love it!

Bro! Great job on the video. It's rare that I would comment something like that. We can always keep improving, but I appreciate the time, effort, and delivery. Hoping to purchase a S4 today.
hey thanks for the kind words!! the S4 is a great great car. hope you bought it. you'll love it!
Amazing tutorial. Gave me the confidence to try this out!
appreciate the comment!!
Stumbled on this in researching Apple Carplay for the 2016 A4 Audi Allroad I just purchased yesterday, same dashboard as the one you show. Incredibly kind and generous of you sharing your expertise and time! With 3G being phased out, already is in many areas, does this effect the carplay wireless interface unit which mentions that it's tied into 3G?
Hi! Thanks for the kind words- so the 3G being referred to is actually the MMI(Audi term for stereo) version. Essentially in older cars is was called 2g mmi, then in newer cars 3gMMI, then 3g+MMI. The wireless CarPlay will work great in your car! This system works with anything above 2Gmmi. (Typically 2011 and newer)
Man, I wasn't even considering one, but you made it look so easy, I might as well try it.
you'll love it!
How did it go?
Hi, many thanks for your detailed video. Clearly I can see it has helped others users as well as myself when installing these retrofit modules.
I wanted to check, I ordered my unit from Eurostyletunning, all works well except the sound in right speakers is low on sound, quality and bass from the left speakers. Is this something you have ovserved too? It creates unpleasant music experience and then I tried adjusting balance but it doesnt help much or lower sound quality.
Any tips on this would help.
Thanks
ah so sorry to hear that! No that is not something I experienced, but I ordered from RSNAV. sorry to hear that and that I can't help more.. I would check all the connections again?
Honestly really good tutorial gave me the confidence to give it a go. How much did everyone buy theirs for not tryna overpay it’s currently 270$
thanks! Check out Facebook marketplace or craigslist. I got mine (in video) I think for around $150 used? cant quite remember
I just bought a 2012 A4 allroad and i might try this to get bluetooth music and handsfree in the car

Wow I was worried about how to do my 13 A4 and google got intimidating but your video was helpful as hell
Thanks for the kind words! It’s a great mod
Great video! Tho i have 2 questions, does the rear view camera shows on the screen when put in reverse on a carplay? And do you always have to connect your phone to the car in order to work? If so I dont see the use in these it will drain the phone battery and I could just put a phone in the phone holder while using stock audis operation, right?
Thanks for the amazing video bro I just installed mine but I have a question I don’t know why my music doesn’t play , anything I play make sound, when I get to Apple car play not even from Waze or RUclips or nothing how do I fix it ? 🙏🙏🙏 please help .. everything else works perfectly
Hmm. Make sure everything is plugged in properly and that you have a MMI to AUX cable plugged into your glovebox but going to nothing.. this is important
thanks for the incredible information.
i wonder if i can hear the car radio when i have waze on screen, then waze notifications interrupt the radio like in new cars.
you can hear the car oem radio with Waze up, although you would not be able to hear the Waze notifications then
thanks
Thank you so much bro for such a good explanation. After seeing this video I can do it in my car. ❤
@@Nikhil_Rathee love to hear it!! You’ll love the mod! Makes it way more modern
What a great video of how to fit apple car play as I’m going to fit one to my Audi A5 and I will use this video to follow 👍👍👍
thank you:)
Hello, great video but I have one question. Can I listen to music via Bluetooth(on RUclips from my phone) and have Waze on the screen?
not sure tbh! I would think so - but not entirely sure
Great Video! Will this work if my Audi has the buttons not under the gear shifter but under the vents in the front dash (Audi Concert). 2010 A5 thanks!
I believe you can -- BUT first check your MMI version and check RSnav website to makes sure its compatible
@@griffenaddie How do I check my MMI version? Thanks
@@KDMND should be able to access this by going to the software and checking current version in your MMI.
Very helpful video. Does the wired connection charge the phone? Waze can drain the phone on long drives. Does Spotify keep playing when you return to Mmi functions?
yes it does charge the phone! just a bit slower than an actual wall charger.. yes-- Spotify keeps paying even if you switch back to normal MMI functions
Awesome video man! The best I've seen so far. I'm so glad I found your video. But quick question, does it have a wire for USBC like an Android phone? If so, mine sending the link. Thanks so much!
Thanks so much! The version I made in the video does have a female usb wire that you could connect a android wire to. BUT the current version on the rsnav website is wireless so no wire is needed
@@griffenaddie that's even better! Thanks again
Thank you for the incredibly helpful video! I just unboxed mine, and it has a ground wire on the large plugs for the head unit. Do know if I need to worry about/ground it somewhere? Thanks!
If there is an easy ground I would say go for it. I don’t Believe mine needed grounding and worked flawlessly!
@@griffenaddie Thank you!!
I'm picking up an Audi A5 B8 this weekend and it's "supposed" to have Audi Music Interface installed that should in theory allow bluetooth media streaming but I don't know until I try it, I might still install this RSNAV though as Carplay is sick. Good tutorial man gonna re-visit this when I buy my own unit
thank you!! CarPlay totally changes the game. cant suggest it highly enough!
amazing tutorial and to connect your phone you just connect it to any transmitter? or by bluetooth?
Will definitely be trying this, just a quick one. Does this operate through Bluetooth or does it still need to have a direct cable connection to your mobile phone for car play to operate. Thanks.
The newest version now operates via Bluetooth!
Hey there, I just picked up a 2009 Audi a4 Quattro and thinking of doing the same, does the apple car play you installed let you do Bluetooth music now? Awesome explaining and video too!
One question. Installing this doesn't affect your backup camera does it?
When you put it in R - The backup camera pops up automatically and when back in D - the CarPlay comes back up
Great vid. Just ordered this couple weeks ago. Curious tho if you need a AMI to aux cable? If so is it a male or female? Thanks!
hi - so on the version in the video - there was a recommendation to plug a mmi to aux cable into the port in the glovebox but not connect it to anything. For any units purchased now - I believe they are all bluetooth!
@@griffenaddieoh perfect, thanks for the quick response👍
Super video watched a few that kind of made sense one thing is you did not mention the use of the AMI lead in the glovebox and switching to connect wirelessly ??
the system I installed here is wired rather than wireless. Just left the MMI to aux connected in the glove box . ( I think leaving the aux plugged in but not connected to anything is a necessary step)
Might be a stupid question but can anyone advise me whether CarPlay will be compatabile with the Audi CD changer MMI as appose to Symphony, Multimedia or Concert? I have a 2008 Audi A4 B8 if that helps. Thanks
I installed this product in my car. But after installing on the screen the message pop up “No VICS data is available” .
Do you know about it 😢
@@Nikhil_Rathee hmm no not sure… are you sure all the plugs and connectors are in properly?
You are a legend sir. Thank you.
I would love to see how and that it works. Like playing music from spotify and then getting a phone call, answer it and end the call. Does it all work that it go’s automatically back to spotify?
Yeah it’s pretty seamless. Everything works pretty well. Phone calls can be echoing sometimes , but overall it is a really seamless system that I’d highly recommend. I’m not associated with it, make no money from any sales etc, just loved it in my personal car and thought it made such a huge difference!
Thanks for this amazing tutorial!! Going to buy this for my 13' a4, do you know if theres any way I can attach a backup camera to this as well?
@@rijaaaahh does your a4 not have a backup camera? My 2012 did.. if not , I’m not sure but I know they sell kits to add that
Hoping you could let us know where you installed the Wi-Fi antenna in the end? Or did yours not come with one
Mine is the old version so it was wired and had no bluetooth! Although it is very tight I think you can squeeze in the antenna right next to the RSnav box!
Thanks for the response. Will have to find somewhere as an antenna worst position is next to a metal box.
@@jeromenjuki2054 Yes, I have heard it is very difficult, but WILL work if you push enough haha
Great video, very helpful!
Did you disconnect the battery first before starting the installation? Some installation guides recommend it, as will also prevent you needing to clear codes (?) if the power is on whilst components are disconnected. The car manual however warns that windows me need resetting if battery is disconnected, so don't want to muck about with battery unless necessary
Very informative video man !
Do you get music Bluetooth as well ?
If you get a new kit you will. I got mine used from someone so it was the "old" version that was wired only. Now they only sell wireless
Hey when looking at RSnavs site it says NOT FOR CONCERT or SYMPHONY or 2G MMI or 3G MMI Basic. I saw in a comment you said you only needed 2G. I have a 2013 Audi S4 and was wondering if it will work only having 2g MMI along with navigation? Thanks!
Hi, 2Gmmi I do not believe will work with this... Email RSNav to double check as you have NAV... So cant say for certain.. Sorry!
Have you had any problems with the RSNAV UNIT being so tight? Many people in other tutorials warn about the need to place them in a ventilated areadue to equipment warming.
I had no issues. Yes it is tight, but could make the space and sort of jam it in there. Had no overheating or any issues even on 3+ hour long drives with it on the whole time
i bought the ESC version. I hooked up everything and the screen is operational but the only problem is the buttons and dial on the center console stoped working. I have a 2011 s4 as well. Tried taking everything out and putting it back together but I got the same result. Any ideas?
@@nugggetchicken2834 that is super strange… hmm if you have checked all the connectors are properly hooked up- I would call ECS. They have great support

Stumped atm!
strange! Make sure you are selecting CarPlay. and holding all the buttons etc correctly.

Well done great video just installed mine yet to do a test before placing all back together.
so would this one work for the MMI 2G high? i have a 2009 B8 A5 with the radio controls by the gear selector
I believe you need 3g mmi
Great video! Any downsides to the RSNav unit? I read somewhere that the microphone will have an echo when you are doing Bluetooth calls. Is that the case? Any other downsides?
Yes for the Bluetooth version there is an annoying echo for phone calls. But pretty easy to just not use the cars speakers when talking. Other than that. No downsides
@@griffenaddie do you mean use the phone's speakerphone for calls instead?
@@griffenaddie or if you wanna make/take a phone call, could you hit the PHONE button to get out of RSNav and use the plain old stock MMI?
@@essbee5 honestly - not sure.
@@essbee5 yes
Thanks for the video but I am so confused because looking at the rsnav wiki manual. They talk about taking kit glove box to get to the can bus junction or soemthing? Is that optional.... Your way seems so much easier by using the climate control... but I am a bit confused why there manual goes the hard way?
hmmm to be honest, I am not too sure about the other way you mentioned! The only thing relevant around the glove box is that you need to have a MMI to aux plugged into the output in the glovebox (does not need to be connected to anything just plugged into the glovebox)
@@griffenaddie Well i will be going your way for sure, the manuals they provide are the most difficult thing to follow, so thank you for taking time to make this
How has the device held up over the years? Still working ok?
@@MrClimateCriminal I since sold the car- but over a year of using it- had 0 issues!!

I have one question, i went to order this interface but on the seller website it mentions that if your car Software version number like BNAV_XXXX_XXXXXX for Europe are completely not Supported. Is your car version nuber like BNAV_XXXX_XXXXXX?
It really just depends on your MMI version. Which you can find in the menu. If you have anything above 2G . So 3G and up it will work! Thanks for the nice comment!
How is the sound quality via Bluetooth compared to some high-end FM transmitters (which are still pretty disappointing) or compared to MMI Bluetooth Adapter?
Sound quality is very good! Same as oem Bluetooth OR aux
how much would this cost for this specific car? I had a quick look online but I think the one I found was 600USD? Is there a way to do this cheaper?

yes! just ensure you have a MMI that is capable
Tried this and followed instructions to a t in an Audi Q5, however it had a yellow and pink cable not a yellow and grey as per video. Doesn't seem to come up on the screen. Aux cable is plugged in the glovebox

Hey man great vid helped me out a lot I just have one issue it’s that the music does not come out the speakers? Everything is working I can pause play and skip the music it’s just won’t play anything through the car speakers how can I fix this. (It’s the bluetooth rsnav)
hmm... three thoughts here....
1. Make sure you have an aux cord plugged into the MMI output in the glovebox. Should have a MMI to aux cord plugged into the outlet in the glovebox but just not connected to anything.
2. If that does not fix it make sure the bluetooth rsnav, phone, and car bluetooth are all synced up!
3. unplug/replug all the connections . although thats a long shot
It has to be an aux? Currently have a tune2air in there not sure if that can fix the problem. I was never able to connect to the tune2air in the first place that’s why I bought the rsnav.
@@anthonyhuerta1834 yes I would try to use a MMI to Aux and leave that in the glovebox. Is your phone connected to the RSnav/ Rsnav connected to the cars bluetooth properly?
The Bluetooth seems to be connected properly because I can skip the songs on my phone and I’ll do the same on the screen as well as play and pause just (no sound). I’ll try putting in the aux see if that resolves the issue

I would make sure you have a MMI to aux cord plugged into your glove box. but not connected to anything ! See if that works.
Just got mine installed following your video. Wondering is the unit always on even if the car is off? I have an AMI Bluetooth device that did that, which is really annoying.
I dont believe so no.
Is it not wireless? does the music cut off if you go back to the audi system?
this specific one is wired since thats what was available at the time. But now - when you order on I believe the only option is wireless bluetooth version
It’s seems that I need the AMI cable. Do you have a video showing how that should be installed using this unit?
What is the old video but I have a 2016 S4 Premier plus so I have navigation and everything now I could see the apps on my screen SoundCloud on the screen to and when I play my song on my phone it pops up on the screen here and it's playing but there's just no sound
Make sure you have MMI to AUX plugged into your glovebox. Does not need to be connected to anything tho
@@griffenaddie oh thank you yeah cuz there is a wire in the glove box plugged up already I have to go to the settings and make sure it's on MMI auxiliary and then plug the wire into my phone and then it'll work
I bought this product for an Audi A5 Sportback. The connection and wiring was done in 15 minutes, but it was impossible to fit the wires and the box back in the car. Shame as everything was working very well. I will sugest to double check before buying to avoid disappointment.
it was a tight squeeze for me, but it luckily fit
Where did you go to get yours installed?
I tried my best but I failed miserably. I asked few of my friends and they couldn't either even though were more experienced than me.
Does this RSnav unit affect sound quality? I just recently purchased a 2011 s4 and who ever had the car installed some janky aftermarket system that'll allow bluetooth connectivty but for an android and it makes the B&O audio sound like dog poop.
@@NVmk7 yup totally understand- with this specific unit it sounded great! I would say equal to OEM . I am an audio file! Is it a B8?
Nice Tutorial i loved it. I have one question does the streeringwheel functions normaly work with the carplay in an Audi A3. I saw a video and the man in the video sad the Streeringwheel functions does not work anymore because of the carplay device. thanks for the help.
Hi, thank you! Not entirely sure if the functions work for an A3. I only have experience using this on my personal S4 and friends s4's. never on an a3.. sorry. Could email Daniel Kim at rsnav to see!
Would you say this is relatively the same process for a 2014 S4? My OEM mmi Module stopped working and dealership quoted me about 5k for a new module plus labour. Also wanted to ask if the 2014 s4 (b8.5) would require an AMI cable or not if you do know. Thanks
I believe the new RSNAV is bluetooth. You would need a MMI to aux cable in theglovebox but it can be attached to no phone and just stay there. if your entire MMI system stopped working it could be a deeper problem. Not sure. would try to get the codes and research the problem
Thanks a bunch! My module quit working and I think I'll upgrade to this Android-Auto version.
I scrolled through the comments but didn’t see this question.
While in CarPlay mode does the climate control stuff still come on the screen when you’re adjusting say the fan speed or seat heater?
Thanks! Super helpful video! I was considering doing an iPad dash until I saw this.
great question!
-the fan, temp, and heat seater does not come up on screen like normal. But, I did not find it to be a problem as it still adjusts just like normal and displays on the lower red led screen right next to the controls.
So you can still see temp, fan speed etc it just doesn't display on the upper screen when you are using CarPlay
Hey! Just a question. Do you still get sound if you use the original audi's interface to play radio for example?
Tbh I never even used the radio in my car - Always Phone haha. But yes from my understanding you can use OEM functions 100% like OEM too - including radio
