Oddly, the only muscle group that really seemed to respond was my calves. And by respond, I mean that I have 17 inch calves now. Literally everyone that knows me regularly jokes with me about how superhuman my calves are. On the other hand, it did not do jack shit for my other muscle groups. And it didn't matter if I shaved or not. Thoughts?
Thanks for the feedback. As far as it being painful and burning, yes especially if you’re doing lots of hypertrophy. You’re running an electrical current which will produce lots of heat. As far as your calves, congrats I know many jealous souls right now. And as far as the other muscles not growing, I’m not sure... what program were you using? How frequently? Lots of variables
@@BrandonTalbot You're welcome, thanks for responding. I don't recall the settings very well, but I never did strength endurance. I only did strength and the other more "physique-oriented" setting. Haha thanks, I wish I had bigger arms and smaller calves, but I guess we always want what we don't have. That's a good point you make about frequency. I was probably only training each muscle group with compex once a week. So maybe I should give it another shot, but just "specialize" in one muscle area for awhile. For example, maybe I could do 3x per week of bi's and tri's for 3 months and perhaps that would be money.
I would recommend using the info he provided for the PowerDot and then doing some reseach on the Compex Mini Wireless in order to do an apples to apples comparison. It has most of the same features as the Powerdot (app, wireless, various mode, tracking) The Compex unit he's using is old tech.
It’s all “old tech” NMES has been around since the 50’s. But the Compex I was using is from their latest model line with the exception of the mini. They have a brand new system coming out, just waiting to be cleared by the FDA, and when it does I’ll review that one. But more importantly I wanted to show the difference between wired and wireless systems, and the advantages and disadvantages of both. But yes for an apples to apples the mini is a better comparison
Thanks for doing these videos. You had a video looking at the Compex Arye and mentioned to you would do a comparison of them vs the Normatec. Are you still planning on doing that? I saw that the video is no longer available now.
I sure am. The video froze after a few minutes so pretty much the whole initial review was ruined. I then found myself in the ICU for a day so once I get feeling a little better I’ll redo it
I evaluated the PowerDot, the Compex Mini (Compex's answer to PowerDot), and the traditional Compex. The PowerDot and the Compex Mini both integrate with your smartphone via bluetooth. They are similar, however the PowerDot's app is slightly more elegant, and the pod is a lighter weight. The Compex Mini comes with two pods - there is no single pod option, and is far cheaper then the PowerDot Duo. The Compex Mini never dropped the bluetooth connection, but the PowerDot dropped the connection intermittently which was pretty annoying. My biggest problem with the Compex Mini is that the stimulation felt "dirty" and not smooth. At high stimulation settings, the feeling was quite unpleasant. If I had to choose a portable, bluetooth device, I would likely choose the PowerDot over the Compex Mini. Fortunately, you don't have to choose either because the traditional Compex devices are superior in a variety of ways. As this reviewer states, the traditional Compex is far better for dynamic exercises as the pad aren't weighed down by pods. The stimulation feels smooth even at high settings. The channels can be set independently, so if your left leg feels as though it is getting less stimulation then the right, you can balance it out. The battery life is far superior to the PowerDot or the Compex Mini. Finally, the price of these devices is excellent. The Edge can be had for around $100 and it goes up from there. I see no scenario where a PowerDot or Compex Mini would be superior to the traditional Compex.
Hey Brandon! Great video. I am mainly wanting to get one of these for neck, shoulder and trap pain. Do you recommend one versus the other for this type of need? Thanks in advance! 😊
No they’ll both do a great job but there are more customization options with the powerdot when it comes to creating a pain management program. And start digging in there with a lax ball. I would wager that some of that pain is due to upper crossed syndrome
Hello Brandon, I think you talk about most of the important points but I think you miss one, what about the strength of the shock? I see that the compex device it´s bigger and the powerdot it´s not that big and it have a smaller battery, I´m not sure if it´s related to the strength of the power you feel from both devices?
Hey Jaime, thanks for the question. One is not more “powerful” than the other just FYI. And on both devices the more you turn them up, the stronger the contraction on the muscles gets.
brandon! when you are making a new review! im needing something to relieve my sciatica! i looking for the compex 6.0 wireless or the 4.0 (corded) already subscribed and liked the video
Thanks for this video, I really appreciated the comparison! But, BRO, you gotta do a new comparison, it looks like the new Compex Sport Elite 3.0 has all the features you thought they wouldn't add! What do you think?! (HARD CASE! LITHIUM ION BATTERY! PAD PLACEMENTS SUGGESTIONS!)
@Brandon Talbot any updates on Powerdot 2.0 what is maximum pulse amplitude for powerdot and max frequency ? As for compex SP 8.0 it is 120 mA, 400 us, 150 Hz
Your summation of compex reminds me of computrainer. Domination of the market with no need to innovate, until competition kills you. And then the dinosaur dies.
I would say that power dot is better if you go to the uno version as there would be no financial problem and also the only problem would be about the dynamic work
I personally don’t consider it a financial problem (and I don’t mean like money is of no concern) I mean that if it holds strong like compex has over the years it’s totally worth it. And one of the few perks of an app is that there’s updates and could potentially make the PowerDot even better. But the uno seems like a step back. From an efficiency/time standpoint
Ok I hope you don’t mind but I would like to add a design flaw- or maybe future enhancement. They need an apple watch app and ability to Bluetooth to the watch instead of phone. I’m constantly losing connection because I walk (or lunge) too far from my iphone. This would be immensely helpful. So I’ll call it in to support but if you have their ear you can share too!! ✅
They can do more than you can voluntarily. They will absolutely wipe you out if you crank the intensity. They tax the nervous system like crazy. I’ll sit on a couch and crush my quads for 20min and feel like I ran a marathon.
Yeah Compex is waiting on the new device to be cleared so sometime in the next two months I’d say and I’ll test it out once I do and powerdot has kept me in the loop for their new stuff.
Hey Brandon, just watched and thanks for all the info. Im a crossfitter (who mixes in only lifting) with always nagging pain and recovery needs so I was in the market for one of these. it looks like the Sport Elites are not $350 and PowerDot now owned by Therabody since you video. Would you still recommend the Compex over Dots with the same pricing?
Very nice review...i am confused between PowerDot and Compex. I have stiff neck after cycling and i am planning to buy one of the EMS. Will any of the products help me alleviate the stiffness? Also, which one do u recommend?
Brandon, Just found your video. Thanks for the comparison. If I go Compex wireless, looks improved from when you did your review, think I still have to worry about pods disconnecting from the pads when I jump rope or do plyos? Otherwise, I'm thinking just go with the Sports Elite. Thanks.
Would love to see an update on your opinion of the current lineup of compex devices as I'm looking at grabbing a set and most likely learning towards the lastest wireless set.
@@BrandonTalbot just watched the video you did comparing the 3.0 and the updates they made.. kinda makes me glad I'm coming into this late game to be honest. I'm looking more towards wireless because it suits the general need to have an minimal amount of wires as possible, obviously the downsides are there to the wireless setup. But the real curious point for me is.. is the wireless compex better than the power dot? And worth the money? If it has the same problems then I might as well save a little over $100 and get the sport elite 3.0. Thanks for actually replying to such an old video that's got you a new subscriber!
@@randomtvninja yeah for me it’s simply that if you use the wireless for any amount of time, because it’s holding the battery, the warmth it creates (electricity creates heat) and the weight means it’s constantly coming off. Whether you’re training with it or not. Powerdot is super cool - if it worked. It’s incredibly unreliable and in some instances dare I say frightening/dangerous
@@BrandonTalbot yea it coming off randomly would be extremely annoying and if I can save that $100 and just put it towards more electrodes that seems like the best way to go! Thank you! This makes sense I'll be using this for recovery and warm up for BJJ/Muay Thai as well as using the endurance setting and explosive strength. This will be a device potentially used by 3 people. Thanks for the help you've sealed my opinion on what I'm grabbing which is the compex sport elite 3.0 just wish it was USB C instead of micro!!! Such a small fix. My only downside is the wireless compex has more programs but not sure if that really makes a big enough difference.
Thanks for the comment and the question. I know I made it sound like it can be brutal and it can be if you make it. For the first week just do a few sessions sitting on your couch and only take it up to a low level like 20. That should suffice
That is a really good question, and I think it comes down to movement. If you’re going to be moving a lot, no. If you’re using it while stationary yes. There’s so much customization when it comes to its programs it’s a shame that they couldn’t find a better solution to keep it attached to you. I hope the next iteration fixes that problem
Have you used an H-Wave or ireliev? Does Compex work well for chronic pain from injury and migraine? I have the ireliev but it does not work as well for pain relief as the H-wave but I also have an old bulky H-wave and I need to have the battery replaced but I am trying to find a more portable device that is not as expensive as the newer version $2500.
USB-C would be kind of a waste because there is no data passing through, just power. That would raise the price of the device while bringing absolutely no benefits. I would have rather them including a power brick with 2 USB ports (of 2Amps each) to charge both units faster.
Hey Brandon, can you tell me why Compex devices go up to way higher prices then Powerdot. Does it come with additional features to Powerdot, just trying to workout what makes the price so much more different.
Because Compex charges more?🤷🏽♂️ lame answer but only the wireless is more expensive than the powerdot last time I checked all other Compex wired devices are cheaper, but no there’s no separating factors
@@BrandonTalbot There are Compex products like SP8 that gets to like a £1000 in UK whereas Powerdot is only around £320, whereas Compex also has the SP2 which is £399. Wondering if Compex has extra settings
Costumer care of PowerDot is not international ! I wondered whether to buy Compex or PowerDot, after a short search the answer was Compex Mini Wireless... Lol ! I have chosen Compex SP 6.0 wireless it has 30 programs, 4 channels and 8 modules. You can't compete with a companies that have a world Wide products with tutorials and assistance in all languages, especially when it comes to a lot of $$$.
@@BrandonTalbot it is pretty crazy. The cheapest I can find in my country is more than double the price and a lot of places sell it for 3 times the price. The new model is almost 7 times the price even now when it’s 20% off 😆.
If you mean trying to grow muscle because of hypertrophy, there’s not really a best in this scenario. Either would be great. The science behind it is the same so best would come down to preference of wireless or not wireless, app or no app, price etc...
@@BrandonTalbot thank you for reply , what is your opinion on PlayMakar sport and iRelieve (EMS+TENS ) . And what is maximum pulse amplitude for powerdot and max frequency ?
Do any of these products or others in the market enable you to control pulse frequency and pulse width? I just bought the Compex wireless and I'm disappointed there's no way to just set one setting, you have to use their dumb programs which require button presses every few minutes.
No you can’t sorry, but once you’ve deleted tec your program there’s no more button pressing to do - they do all of the adjustments themselves unless you WANT to. But it isn’t required.
I personally wasn’t a fan of the Mark pro I would definitely go Compex over Mark pro, but either of those are really good depending on what you need. Maybe the power dot because it’s wireless and you’re probably not doing dynamic work, but if you were in the future maybe wait for the new Compex coming out
I have been back to the gym for about 2 months and also been to Physiotherapy a lot. Building the strength back into my leg after my surgery. I have a plate where my break is on my tibia just below the knee. The loss of muscle in my calf and hamstring and quad is my concern. Would the Compex help me to regain the strength faster ? Also going to the gym as well
It might not make sense but power/intensity doesn’t really apply here. They each have their own increments of applying electrical current but both have more “power” then you could comfortably handle
Steve did you watch the video? Cause it goes into depth what the differences are. They’re extremely difference except they use the same science that’s the only similarity between them
What are your thoughts on using the compex instead of weightlifting? I only ask because of Covid gyms in my area are closed and dont not have room in my home for weighlifting equipment.
Cheers Brandon , I’m 60 and in to road cycling, I usually get some decent rides in, plenty of 100 mile rides and others of 150 , and even a 206 mile 3 years back. This year has been hampered by injuries, one after another. Old injuries and new , one when one the 206 mile ride I crashed after 16 miles knocking my knee cap but rode on for 190 miles. Then a couple of falls running since then twisting my knees. I also suffer lower back issues. And sore joints from my Ulcerative colitis. We are lucky we have a small gym at home, only multi gym, Rower and Wahoo Kickr bike plus some resistance bands. But I’m struggling to get any consistency with back to back training days. I want to be ready for some challenges next year , covid permitting. So I’m seriously thinking the Power dot might be part of the solution.. Rog 👍
@@rogerarmstrong9960 the Powerdot is great, but if you’re going to use one as a training solution I suggest a wired device like Compex. It will actually stay on. A perfect companion if you’re using something like a Wahoo Kickr. I have a playlist full of Mobility work that you should watch and start implementing. Endurance athletes are notorious for overuse injuries and other problems cause they tend to train in one plane of motion. You can also watch my video on Mobile 90 if you’re looking for personalized assessment and programming.
@@BrandonTalbot I’m just looking for something to help bring up a couple muscle groups. For example, my quads drastically overtake my glutes to the point that they hardly fire. I pulled the trigger on the mini and plan to take advantage of the (almost) 30 day trial period.
You technically can, as long as they’re within range of the control unit and using the same program. But the intensities can be changed for each individual
@@lespepitesdesuisse I will ask them. But just FYI those levels are arbitrary, if PowerDots level 15 is equal to let’s say 100 on compex then looking to see if they have matching levels wouldn’t mean much. Each company has their own way of telling you your making the intensity go up.
Powerdot wont make a deeper insert because then you can just get pads on amazon that will fit. Thats how they get you, they want you to buy their expensive pads. I missed my return date apparently. Dont wait for the last day of the 30 day trial to request return RMA. They want the product shipped back within those 30 days which defeats the purpose of a 30 day trial. Terrible product and waste of money. Also I got the "6 month kit" which is BS since they only send you three pad kits and one back kit. If you use these every day or 25 uses for pads, I dont see how its a 6 month kit..
Paid review? Fake product? Does it say sponsored video? No? Well that’s because it wasn’t paid. I don’t make affiliate money off either product either: I’d never promote a product I don’t use and love. And I’ve been using Compex since 2010. Don’t leave misguided unfounded comments again please.
@@BrandonTalbot Nobody other than you is able to view what's deposited into your bank account, so your claims mean nothing here.
Any thoughts on the latest complex Sp 8.0
It looks amazing but 1200€ 🤨
I would recommend using the info he provided for the PowerDot and then doing some reseach on the Compex Mini Wireless in order to do an apples to apples comparison.
Brandon Talbot I’m about to buy a Compex or Powerdot, should I wait for the new one?
BilliePrestonsDream is it imperative that you buy one right now? If not I’d wait

Greg you should be doing this not me!
@@BrandonTalbot Naa - you did a great job.
@@MrEzandy well it’s nice to know we are on the same page. I agree with everything you said. Ps I’m gettin the new Compex soon 🤫
@@BrandonTalbot thank you for the info!!! Much appreciated!!!

And on both devices the more you turn them up, the stronger the contraction on the muscles gets.
brandon! when you are making a new review! im needing something to relieve my sciatica! i looking for the compex 6.0 wireless or the 4.0 (corded)

We don’t get those versions in the states unfortunately
Thanks for this video, I really appreciated the comparison! But, BRO, you gotta do a new comparison, it looks like the new Compex Sport Elite 3.0 has all the features you thought they wouldn't add! What do you think?! (HARD CASE! LITHIUM ION BATTERY! PAD PLACEMENTS SUGGESTIONS!)
Trust me I’m still waiting on the device. They promised me a review unit 4 months ago
@Brandon Talbot any updates on Powerdot 2.0 what is maximum pulse amplitude for powerdot and max frequency ? As for compex SP 8.0 it is 120 mA, 400 us, 150 Hz
Hi. Thanks for the video did you do a review of the powerdot at all? I cannot find it if you did.
Yes I did - that’s what this video is…
Your summation of compex reminds me of computrainer. Domination of the market with no need to innovate, until competition kills you. And then the dinosaur dies.
They’ve got a new unit coming soon so let’s see...
@@BrandonTalbot is that why the elite has dropped to $199? I just ordered after watching this video.
No I’d assume that’s a Black Friday sale. The new unit has to be cleared by the FDA first so it’s probably a month or so out
I would say that power dot is better if you go to the uno version as there would be no financial problem and also the only problem would be about the dynamic work
I personally don’t consider it a financial problem (and I don’t mean like money is of no concern) I mean that if it holds strong like compex has over the years it’s totally worth it. And one of the few perks of an app is that there’s updates and could potentially make the PowerDot even better. But the uno seems like a step back. From an efficiency/time standpoint
Super useful. Mil gracias!
Thank you for watching!
Excellent review !
Thank you!
I don’t mind at all and you should definitely contact powerdot and let them know
Please review the new Compex 3.0 versus these 2.0 units. Would be nice to see what improvements were made, cause the new ones are more expensive.
I definitely will be!
Good review!
Thank you!
Hey, do you know where I can get a motor point pen for the compex 3.0 in the USA? I can't find it
Like you read my mind, How strong they can go when comes to muscle stimulation ? can you actually have a "workout " with them? thanks.
They can do more than you can voluntarily. They will absolutely wipe you out if you crank the intensity. They tax the nervous system like crazy. I’ll sit on a couch and crush my quads for 20min and feel like I ran a marathon.
Super helpful, thanks for that review! Really hoping Powerdot or Compex step their game up, it sounded like a mix of the 2 would be ideal haha
I’d definitely go Compex. The powerdot is really cool but unreliable
Very nice review...i am confused between PowerDot and Compex. I have stiff neck after cycling and i am planning to buy one of the EMS. Will any of the products help me alleviate the stiffness? Also, which one do u recommend?
Yeah they both will. I’d recommend the Compex. Cheaper and always reliable
Brandon, Just found your video. Thanks for the comparison. If I go Compex wireless, looks improved from when you did your review, think I still have to worry about pods disconnecting from the pads when I jump rope or do plyos? Otherwise, I'm thinking just go with the Sports Elite. Thanks.
If you can avoid the wireless I would. Compex released their new system tomorrow from what I heard
Thanks for the video. Is NMES and EMS the same concept? I'm a bit confused.
Yeah it is a bit confusing but yes same thing
Would love to see an update on your opinion of the current lineup of compex devices as I'm looking at grabbing a set and most likely learning towards the lastest wireless set.
Hey Jon, I’m not a huge fan a wireless, but you’re right I need to do a follow up
@@BrandonTalbot just watched the video you did comparing the 3.0 and the updates they made.. kinda makes me glad I'm coming into this late game to be honest.
@@randomtvninja the sport elite has the same programs as the wireless so you’re not losing anything there and you can buy much cheaper pads on Amazon
Can you do a video on how beginners can ease into using the compex?
Thanks for the comment and the question. I know I made it sound like it can be brutal and it can be if you make it. For the first week just do a few sessions sitting on your couch and only take it up to a low level like 20. That should suffice
Thank you so much for this. If I wanted to use for more rehab reasons, would you recommend powerdot?
That is a really good question, and I think it comes down to movement. If you’re going to be moving a lot, no. If you’re using it while stationary yes. There’s so much customization when it comes to its programs it’s a shame that they couldn’t find a better solution to keep it attached to you. I hope the next iteration fixes that problem
I will also say that on the 15th compex comes out with their new device
Have you used an H-Wave or ireliev? Does Compex work well for chronic pain from injury and migraine? I have the ireliev but it does not work as well for pain relief as the H-wave but I also have an old bulky H-wave and I need to have the battery replaced but I am trying to find a more portable device that is not as expensive as the newer version $2500.
Hi! I have not. Sorry. Chronic injury yes, migraine no. Your best bet for that is PEMF
Once you’ve used both you realise the compex is the superior device

What about the sport elite vs the wireless compex?
To me no comparison. The wireless gave me nothing but problems. Giant bulky pods. Way worse than PowerDot. I gave it away. Sport Elite all Day.
Does powerdot have a resistance program like the compex
It does. I’d watch the review I did on it. Some important things I cover
This was great , I agree with what you ended up with, I say sometimes there needs to be a fusion, and you would have one kick a@$ product. :-)
Yes, and honestly it’s just a few engineering oversights. Like it should have been 3-5 years ago when it came put but hopefully soon.
USB-C would be kind of a waste because there is no data passing through, just power. That would raise the price of the device while bringing absolutely no benefits. I would have rather them including a power brick with 2 USB ports (of 2Amps each) to charge both units faster.
I get that I just want it as that is being the push for universal power
What is the difference between compex fit 5.0 and compex fit 8.0 ?
Don’t know those are international models. We don’t get them in the states

If you mean trying to grow muscle because of hypertrophy, there’s not really a best in this scenario. Either would be great. The science behind it is the same so best would come down to preference of wireless or not wireless, app or no app, price etc...

Power dot vs marc pro

I personally wasn’t a fan of the Mark pro I would definitely go Compex over Mark pro, but either of those are really good depending on what you need.
