I literally only ever practice qualifying lol. I’m at like 2000 iRating. There is a huge empty space on RUclips that needs fixed setup oval guides because they are hard to find. Most RUclipsrs just show you the race they did which isn’t as helpful as breaking down the lap and explaining.
Anyways you got a new sub. Keep up the good work.

Thanks a lot I appreciate it!
I’ll be honest these days I also just rip qualifying laps in practice because it’s the most fun. But I can’t in good faith recommend that for a beginner/intermediate trying to improve

Thanks for the great breakdown of your practice habits, I'll definitely have to implement some of this. I've raced with you in arca lobbies before and you are always fast. Sharing some of your secrets only will help the community get better! I do have one question- you mention about practicing the best line to run based off fast drivers, but early in a race you often have to adjust your driving to the traffic around you. Is there a way you train yourself mentally to switch from "I'm in traffic and need to be careful" mode to "ok time to go fast" mode?

In my opinion this comes down to experience more than something that you can straight up practice. If you have an advanced understanding of how a certain car works, and not just how to run a specific line, then you can approach these situations optimally. For instance in the arca car if I’m less than .2 seconds behind someone’s bumper I will get off the throttle a tick earlier. Or if I’m on the outside of another car going into the corner I may know that the second line at a certain track wins on exit so I only have to drive hard enough to make sure they don’t clear by apex. In my opinion iracing is 60% knowledge 40% execution so it’s about building this library of situation knowledge in order to become a good racer, and not just run a fast line

@@DJYeeJay thanks dude, I would tend to agree which is why I've generally focused more on just running races as opposed to setting actual practice but as my experience grows this sort of video is invaluable

@@JKI89115 I think starting with a solid baseline of track knowledge allows you to get the most from running races. Ideally I want to do an hour or so of practice then just start doing races. The only time I go back to practice after that is if I need refinement on long run / tire saving

how long do you think I should practice my qualifying speed if there is a competitive field with a field cap?
