Did any amount of the $35 trillion US national debt go to the outdated infrastructure improvement or was pumped into the ~750 military bases worldwide, in view of the country's 'national interests'?

Thank you for covering these transit issues. Please keep it up. NJ commuters are desperate for this system to work better! Living in NJ and working in NYC is feeling not viable.

Where has all the money gone with NJT? Where? Certainly not towards maintaining ancient infrastructure or equipment. They're about to raise already high fares by 15% AND raise state sales tax to subsidize the disaster that is NJT. Why should we pay top dollar for worst in class service? And, THAT money still won't be enough. So, the question is where has all this money gone over the years? Where? Into whose pockets? Because it sure as hell hasn't gone into the system. How about a story on that?

While there are issues with NJT's infrastructure in some places most of the recent delays have been due to failures within Amtrak's jurisdiction. Unfortunately the use of Amtrak owned facilities (the tracks were once owned and operated by the PRR) has created a nightmare scenario due to Amtrak's chronic funding problems.

Just get battery-powered trains since you can't run diesel trains that are operated by NJ Transit through the tunnels. You can't rely on trains that run on overhead wires anymore.

Just a few days ago a brush fire in Secaucus NJ gave me Amtrak problems as I was trying to head home from Philadelphia PA to NYC. My first Amtrak was cancelled and I got swapped for free to another. That Amtrak I got put on was late and then ended up surprising me and leaving without me at the last minute and then I got swapped to another Amtrak train. I spent like 3 hours late in the evening at Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station till I finally got on my Amtrak at 10:35 PM and I got home by 1 AM ish. Fortunately I had no charges at all for any of the changes even though I had a value fare ticket with Amtrak. But regardless of how my travels home from Philly went, I totally can feel everyone’s pain about all the NJT and Amtrak delays that all went on with this catenary wire infested area having problems that stall trains.

An hour commute by train or by car is not extraordinary. By car at rush hour can take you an hour to go ten miles.

Sounds like NYC and NJ are doing their jobs. Squeeze money out of the people, and still claim service is reliable, and we need to keep pumping money into a system that will always be a money pit
