- Why I know this is not for everyone ,it may be for a select few like myself who enjoyed this cold cut meat growing up so my older crew might consider giving this recipe a try and enjoy it as much as I do god bless.
Gurl, out of all the videos on making this, I ❤️ the way you made this one. I was a little leery on the sage , but lawdy have mercy it’s good 😊
Glad it was helpful! It really makes it for me.
Me too! That plate makes me hungry just looking at it.
Sista your recipe is the very best to me. I've made this for a few year's now different recipies off of you tube it was good but something was different. Your recipe is definitely a keeper of mine. Thank you for sharing and God bless
Thank you, for breaking the recipie down for us....much appreciated!!! Amazing video btw...
This is how souse is suppose to look superb 👍🏾
Beautiful!! My father made this from a whole hogsthead in Montgomery, Ala. RIP Pop.
Damn that was simple took me back to my grandmother's homemade souse.
I love hog head cheese!! My mother, my godmother, my grandma, all made this for me growing up. Never knew how to make it so thank you for posting. Can't wait to make it. Haven't had it in years!!
Oh my goodness your going to love it I’m going make more for my friends grandma’s anniversary very soon and hope you enjoy.
Great recipe from Lake City South Carolina
I had it homemade only once and she used a hogs head. It was delicious but this looks easier to make. I think I’ll try this.
We are Northerners and we have made this forever. Made some last week with leftover from butchering a hog. Nothing goes to waste and I have a list of people wanting my head cheese. I use a very big pressure cooker. Makes short work of it. I only add salt, pepper a little garlic and red pepper flakes. Peace all.
Out of all the videos I've watched. This comes real real close to what I remember buying for grandma at the corner store. Gotta try it. Thank you
My Pops loved it!
My my had 7 kids...my dad made this every new year. The fights we had over this were legendary 😂😂💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾❤️
Mmmmm it looks good, I miss me some good ol souse😊
so look like Miss Maddie did a good job so I am 72 years old now and when I was a teenager in Chicago, I worked at my grandfather's Food market that was before any major market located to Chicago. We only had two Hillmans was downtown Chicago. The other was on the south side of Chicago and a couple of AMP's. I don't recall either of those stores selling the meats however, the brand my grandfather sold with some park house sausage Company. It was a black owned organization that eventually sold out to another company not only did we sell various sauce meat? There are many varieties such house, such as pimento sauce olive is very picky rag meat. It was wrapped waxing cloth, hot sauce. It was truly hot. I tried some recently from the same purveyors Parkerhouse, but apparently they new owners have changed the ingredients, it doesn't have the same presence as it had before various types of cheese, olives, all sorts of things for sausages and salami. Those were the days postscript. do any of the family know where the style of cooking came from? from Europe, Italy, Germany, France, Britain, another places, nothing truly went to waste any animal animal they were slaughtered they ate everything but the oink, the squeal, the moo, or whatever they made it was eaten completely
That looks so good!❤ I was craving some so bad and same, I don't care for or eat pig ears, tails, chitterlings, or none of that but that souse I will eat!😂 I grew up loving the red orange spicy one. Anyway, I bought some the other day and it was ok but didn't have that flavor of yesterday. This right here looks amazing! Thanks for sharing your secrets!
I remember helping make this in my earlier years. I gave it a try a couple years ago and it was so good. I will forever make it as long as I'm able
I am a southern gentleman and I love a good headcheese.
I got to get country on you, Guuuhhh!! I’ve been wanting me some pickled souse for yeats. I’m from Mississippi and I can’t find it anywhere. Thank you so much for this recipe, I’m gonna make my own now!!!
Guuuhh, I saw that word and understood!!!! Florida woman.....but always will be that Mississippi girl....that word brought back so many many memories of fussing with my sister....LOL "Guuuhhh you betta leave me alone...LOL LOL LOL
You got the right approach brother, I will give it a try, but I will add some meat so I could fool some of my relatives. I like head cheese, but never had it before until I found it at a Deli.....Bon appetite!!!
Looks great! I haven't had souse in ages, my dad used to make some, but he's passed away. I like that your method is easy and looks similar to the way I like mine. I'm going to try to make this. Thank you!
Ohh I can’t wait I hope you enjoy it
Souse is not the same as hog head cheese. They ARE similar. But Souse has chuncks whereas HHC is more emulsified. Also Souse is more sour than HHC.
But I WILL try your recipe!!
Thank you so much iam trying this ,I love hog head cheeze
I love your video, reminds me of when my father made this, the first time I seen him make it he used a hog head, but after that he used pig feet and ears like you did and friends of our family would ask him to make it, it was delish, so I'm gonna try my own hand at it, I know I can make it, so thanks for your recipe 🖐️
I’m from DC I miss this. I live in Hawaii now, and how I miss blue crab and chicken wings with Mumbo sauce.
Bring back memories from Alabama, from the little corner grocery store!! I will make some looks delicious!!! 💕
That looks great I love it I’m from Mississippi ❤
Good job this souse look really delicious 🙏🏼😇👍👌💯🌹
Loved your video. I do my souse meat almost like this but I will definitely try your recipe!
Thanks for the video. Just like I make it. My mom used to cook a hog head, when making her souse meat. I personally can’t use the hog head, it seems like he’s looking at me…
😂😂😅....yes, indeed.
I have all my ingredients. I can’t wait to make it. Thank you so much for the demonstration. It looks amazing. God bless.❤
Excellent video. Thank you for posting.
Girl we used to rock this, when my Mom was living. Brought back memories
Looking Good
Okay, that actually looks beautiful. Thanks for making this video. I've been researching how to make this for a while. I think this might be the recipe I go with.
Glad it was helpful! I hope you enjoy it.
The souse from the store has so much vinegar in it that I cant stand it. This receipe looks good and I will try it. Maybe less pig ears. I don't like the gristle. Thank you.😊
If you cook them longer most of that will turn to gel. You can also use other meat by just cooking what's left off the bones but you need that skin and cartilage for the soup or broth that glued it all together.
Great video!
Have you ever put in sliced pickles or other veggies?
Looks amazing! thank you for the video. A cook after my own heart, I always tweak my stuff by taste and smell as well. God bless you. All love all the time.
Thank you! You too!
Great Job
Love Souse meat a southern delicacy
Looks good I love head cheese my grandma use to make it the same way but she would put a little onion green onions in hers
I’m going to have to give that a try sounds like she was an amazing cook thanks for sharing with me
That looks delish😋
Thank you for this my husband brother was missing his mom cooking I'm going to do this for him
I can’t wait to make this… Thank you!!!
I hope you enjoy
Your mix looks really good, I made some today for the first time so I'm kinda winging it, I used to watch my father make it but never tried it myself, so I'll see how mine comes out. But I will be copying yr recipe it seems like a good one, so thanks 🥰
Sistah-Gurl, my mother had me helping her make hog head cheese. By the time I was 12, I was making it😊. Back in the day I would eat so much of it in one sitting. As I've age😊, I stopped making it and would buy it. Be careful eating a lot at one time [if you have high blood pressure]. Now I've got to have some, with light spread of mustard 😋
Thanks for sharing your great recipe! New subscriber! 😁
love ❤️ 👍👍
That looks good
Love the video. I think i would chop some green onions and jalapeños up in mines
THAT LOOKS SUPER AMAZING!!!!!
Thank you
Awesome Casey

Yummmy! Wish I was there to sample along the way. I also add franks hot sauce to mine. I like it hot 🥵 😊
Oh yes ms lady with the hot sauce if you know you know.
my grandmother use to make it just like that
Honey. I'm subscribing to be you now. I'm from North Carolina yes
I love the vinegar. I remember my mom making vinegar but she got down and made me use a grinder so I had to do one better and get them food processor, take the bones out and put it in the food processor
Thanks I will be making some soon.

This good eating 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yes you know what you talking about
That looks amazing!! ❤❤ 🐽 This is the kind I like but it’s not sold everywhere.
It's so good, I wish they still sold it in stores like when I was younger.
Spicy
Looks good, you out did yourself lady.
Thank you
Hey, you mentioned Mattie Bell Rice. I'm here in Dunbar, SC and my family name is Rice also wondering if we are related
LOVE ME SOME HEAD CHEESE!!
It’s a cultural dish…. That should be preserved and she put it DOWN!!!!!! I see that spice and the pepper, well seasoned pretty dish!
Thank you so much
I appreciate you
Thank you so very much! I'm so going to make myself some beautiful ❤️. Listen I was told to get pig feet, ears, tails, and beef neck bones. I'm just going to make it your way. That's it and that's all 😊
I tried that first it wasn’t very effective the texture was off . Give it a try and I hope you enjoy
No body makes hog head cheese like my daddy? I am going to have to try yours. Daddy never showed or told us how he did bis. One thing for certain, I tried the "souse meat" from the store and it was gross and had so much vinegary flavor I thought I'd be pickled inside to eat it all. It was so bad.
How many pounds of meat and what Seasoning do I need?
I slayed it...
Needs more heat
Child its for me !! Love hot souse !! Got my ingredients together and tomorrow its on !!
Tku!! You did great job! As the old saying goes .." You put your foot in it"
Thank you so much so much for your comment it really put a smile on my face.
Awesome recipe ! Where did you grow up ? My grandmas' recipe was similar. Hailing from Magnolia Arkansas.
I grew up in nyc but my mom is from Kentucky
I need the recipe for this hog head cheese where do I find it
Please read this your's look so good where can I find it 😢😢 help how do know how much ingredients to put in A.B.C.
This looks more like my grandmother's souse meat than any that I have seen. She didn't use any vinegar and I can't find any at the store without it.
My husband loves hog head cheese
This recipe is really easy and it taste amazing give it a try and I hope y’all enjoy it
Please let me know if he likes it
My grans on both sides kept this for me,
Ohhh your so lucky
This the best one I don seen no neck bones please
Lol yes..
Hey kc hope your having a good weekend how are you
I’m hanging in there a lot of doctors appointments but I’m going to try to record this week I appreciate you
Nothing like souse meat/Hog Head Cheese on Saltine Crackers.
I agree thanks for the comment I appreciate it
All that
Watchin this because I had it as a child and it’s literally been over 14 years and idk if it’s suppose to be cold or hot and I’m sitting here scared to eat cause I warmed it up 😂
No! Cold. your to eat like sandwich meat it’s a cold cut sweetie if you heat it up it will melt into the original texture. Allow it to chill and enjoy with crackers
Hey lady I hope you're feeling the best you can. I'm going to pass on this I don't eat pork but have a blessed day 🥰
Aww thank you that’s is ok my mom didn’t eat pork when I was growing up but my grandma was a different story.
@@seasonedwithlove8927 I still gave you a like and a shout out though always that sis ❤
I saw a recipe using beef. Haven’t tried it though.
How many of the containers does the souse make?
This recipe made 3 containers
@@seasonedwithlove8927 thank you
Eating some head cheese while watching this
Lol I love it.
All I need is some saltines and some hot sauce
I know that’s right lol
Yes I love souse meat I'm from Cleveland and live n Missouri n they gt head cheese which is nasty. I like hot souse meat.
I know that’s right
your finished product looks good af..but lets be honest...we both know that sat for more than 10 minutes, contrary to what you are claiming on the video
Can we order from you?
Awww this comment made me feel so special
But unfortunately not I wish I could continue to cook and share my food with everyone.
Ingredients
How many pig feet and ears?
Well I used about 3 pounds of feet and 1 pound of ears and that’s the ratio I like for the texture I’m use to once you make it your going to know immediately what’s what .I hope you enjoy
How about pig tails
Why we as black people never use measurements. I wanna do this one but damn come on smdh.
How many pounds of meat how much seasoning 😢
