      Hey Taryl. Thanks for the awesome video. I just subscribed. This seems to be the same briggs and stratton engine that I have my lawn machines base mower. Can you please help me out and tell me which way to turn the governor post, that holds the governor arm/link to reset it correctly? I changed the carb for an aftermarket one, and forgot to put the link back in. I figured it looked easier to just remove the governor arm instead of the carb and put the link in that way.
      I didn't know that the governor was setup a certain way, and I moved the governonr post left and right using my fingers. Now I'm trying to set it back correctly but some videos tell me to turn it clockwise and others say to turn it counterclockwise until it stops, then tighten the bolt. The setup on my mower is EXACTLY like the Toro you show on the video. Do you know which way the governor needs to be turned on that Toro? Please get back to me and let me know if you get a chance to read this. Thanks Taryl!

    Taryl, the best thing about your fixit videos is that you show every step about taking apart and then putting it back together again and why you did what you did. You are absolutely the best repair guy.

    Great info. My Toro 2008 vintage 20066 Mower is the best ive ever owned. Never did any regular maintenance on it. I replaced the bowl and jet twice to clogging, (or clean out with a wire every spring). I didnt know how the choke worked, now i do. I have the chinese cheapo carb from Amazon, just need to swap it. The MOST common problem you pointed out at 15:50, is the clogged jet. If mower is not winterized and wont start in spring, 99% of the time thats it!. Ethanol in the pump gas, breaks down the bowl coating (and other fuel parts) and harden in the jet clogging it. Thanks for the assistance to the homeowner Taryl, much appreciated. P.S. i used to have that EXACT Honda trail 70 as a kid. Those are fantastic fun.

    Super video! You solved a number of my problems. I was given a Toro Recycler having a Briggs & Scrap'em 126T02 model (6.5 HP 190 cc): Carb problems: float bowl needle valve seat swelled so that no gasoline would pass through it (I poked the hole in the seat with a stiff wire to ensure no blockage; but after removing the stiff wire, the swollen seat returned to its state of "constriction" and it simply would not pass fuel; the float bowl combo retaining bolt/main jet was plugged up; most of the other carb ports and drillings were plugged up; The thermostat lever retaining bolt (that 1/4 inch screw that screws into the carbu-traitor) had corroded and the lever would not freely pivot; you saved me from threading that eye-like loop on the muffler heat sensor. On top of all that, my compression on pulling the starter rope rose to all of 5 psi's. Had a nice healthy blue spark at the plug; but even with a nice shot of starter fluid sprayed into the carb intake, I couldnt get even a single "pop". No surprise there because there was no compression. In loosening the head bolts, I noticed about 3 of the 8 bolts (those 3 were near the exhaust valve, as you noted in the video) had worked themselves loose to a limited extent. I suspect that's where I was losing compression. I pulled the head off; examined the head gasket which had no evidence of cracks, leaks, blow-by, damage etc. Since this is just a lawnmower, I'm going to simply put the old head gasket right back on (sure, the gasket has been crushed already, but "this aint the space shuttle") torque the head bolts correctly and see if that wont bring the compression back to normal. Keeping my fingers crossed that proper compression will return. I don't suspect a flywheel key to be partially sheared. This is because I can't get any compression (other than about 5 psi's max) no matter what cycle. Finally, a HUGE thank you for your series of wonderful videos.

      The seat seems to swell the moment it comes into contact with carb cleaner. Maybe it's the brand I use (Walmart) . I find that the minute carb cleaner touches the seat....I can no longer achieve correct float level and the seat needs to be replaced. No big deal of course. Maybe other brand carb cleaners don't do this?? IDK.

    • @takeachanceonme4
      @takeachanceonme4 3 года назад

      @@Rustycam1025 Thanks for your comments. Glad to hear of your experience with carb cleaner. Regarding the lost compression, it turned out that retorquing the head gasket did not solve the compression problem. I pumped some air into the spark plug hole at top dead center and air leaked profusely out the exhaust valve guide. The valve stem wobbles way too much. This valve simply would not seat well enough to bring the compression back. (I assume there's a guide in this block (might just be a guide-less drilling in the block). The mower is out of commission until I get a valve guide/valve that will not leak. Any suggestions?

    My little grease covered - gas smelling hands LUV you Taryl !!! My lawn mower started spitting and a shuttering - I figured it was just seasonal allergies but NOOOOOOOOO. MIA "vane spring" . I put up a few " missing vane spring " flyers on my tele-poles but just in case it don't come back I ordered a couple of new ones. Couple of days later I was napping on the swing outside and heard that spitting / shuttering noise - I figured I was having a nightmare but my neighbor's lawn mower was acting up - geeesh it's contagious. Her lawn mower had nasty gunk in her carbutraitor bowl ...... after we cleaned it , we " fired it up fired it up" - it started purring like a kitten. You got urself 2 happy lawn mower girls ... Now there's ur dinner !!!

Naturally, when I was reassembling and almost done, the air vane spring popped off and went to the moon. Had to find a replacement, but now she purrs like a kitten, no surging after cleaning the low speed jet on the Nikki.

    I own a Toro mower very similar to this and never understood how the autochoke works on that Briggs engine. Now I know. Thank you. I also never took the carb apart all the way either. So now I know how to do that, too. I do remove the float bowl and clean the main jet once a year along with changing the spark plug and giving it a new air filter, but that is all I've ever had to do to this 10 year old mower. I really like it a lot and I especially like the Personal Pace system on these Toro mowers. Great video.

    Hello
    You forgot to mention that the initial lifting of the choke is started by the wind generated by the flywheel fan. The thermostat ensures the choke is held in open position. The thermostat doesn’t activate quick enough initially.

    Taryl, first i want to say that your videos are very informative, you're a really sharp guy...keep up the good work. So with that being said, i have a Troy-bilt lawn mower model 11A-26M011 with a Briggs & Stratton Eng. model 126T02-0675-B2 with auto-choke that's having staying running issues. It will start after a few pulls but dies soon after the choke starts to open. It will run and stay running with the choke fully close (horizontal position) but dies as soon as the choke is open (vertical position). I have replaced the thermostat so that does work, I'm thinking it may have something to due with the choke or carburetor itself. The choke is kind of spongy with the first start up so you have to keep the choke closed with your finger or something until the Eng. warms and the thermostat starts to open the choke, after that , it just dies. So do you have any suggestions to what might be going on.

    I had Craftsman with almost the same engine but it had the primer bulb that didn't work along with the bowl nut holes being plugged. I bought a rebuild kit from the local mower shop and the guy said to put two gaskets on the filter housing backing plate and evenly tighten the screws. I did that and the primer bulb work fine then. Something about the backing plate flange being warped and sucking air instead of gas. What's your experience with those primer bulbs, Taryl?

    Hey Taryl I own a shop in Bug Tussle Alabama, I’m 57 been at this work 65 years, pretty damn good at it if you ask about me. Now I have all this knowledge but instead of making my OWN channel and putting my own content out there about how I absolutely know everything there’s to know about small engines and the implements there attached to, I like to jump on yours and everyone else’s I can subscribe to, so hey Grass Rats keep putting em out and I’ll keep Co-singing.

    Cool Video! Really explained the auto choke and carb rebuild very well. We all appreciate the part numbers too. And the Classic Fight scenes. . .
    Well done
