When a new camera comes out, my first question is always; will it improve my photography? What is your criteria for buying a new camera?
Im still using the Canon RP and I don't have any plans to up grade for the type of work that I do. You have stayed true to your word about getting new cameras and your philosophy behind it. And I for one appreciate it.

Updated from the EOS 70D to the R5 as I wanted a full frame back in 2020. I’m retired, shot landscape mostly with some family shoots at times and R5 is more than enough. I can’t remember how to turn on the video, but if I need it, it’s there and very well equipped. No update needed for me.

Camera companies want you to believe that buying the latest and greatest will magically improve your photography. Many reviewers on RUclips are either paid to advertise or they just nitpicking every little thing for views. I watch those only for entertainment reasons.
I'll stick with my EOS R for now. It still does everything I want it to do with more than acceptable results. For stills, I think glass, lighting, and actually knowing how to use your camera make far more difference than camera bodies in the modern era. Video, sure. It might be a massive upgrade, but I don't shoot video.

Great insight. I have an R5 , R6 and R6M2. Quite frankly I shoot with more frequency than all of my other bodies. After shooting with the original R6 I have mastered how to use it. I shoot in manual. I know the setting and how the R6 reacts to the environment. Kind of like driving a car. You need to understand the machines limits. I will not be in the market for a new camera. Great conversation

I've owned the R5 for about 2 years and really like it's functionality and the image quality. I've never shot a second of video with it (not my thing) and only some wildlife. I shoot mostly landscapes, portraits, abstracts, etc.; essentially still images. After seeing all the reviews, I am not going to upgrade as I don't see enough improvements in the updated model for me to switch to this camera. Also, a new camera will NOT improve one's photography. It's the photographer, not the gear that makes great images. What a new camera does is psychological. It can kickstart someone who has not picked up or used their camera in a while to become re-energized to go out an realize once again their love for photography. I do disagree on more megapixels even on full frame cameras. It does help those when doing deep crops, especially for printing. Medium format, while great, is much more expensive than full frame and perhaps to many people cost prohibitive. Also, the options for lenses are more limiting and they are more expensive as well.
I went from the Canon R to the R6ii. I needed the updated auto focus and a few other features that the R didn’t have. I enjoy portraiture and landscape photography as well as taking photos of my grandkids playing sports 📷😎
I used that camera on a wedding. I shot recently and I really liked it. And for what I do it’s more than enough. Not sure when I’m gonna be looking for another body but that or the Mark three is a strong candidate.
I went from Nikon Z6II to Canon R and then to Canon R6II. The Autofokus, the sensor and the Joystick are the most important features of the camera. But most important are the lenses and the ability to have the inspiration. Camera‘s are tools but practice is the most important part to „see“ the possible picture.

@@johannesschroeder5117 I love the R6 mk II too. I had a Canon 80D and upgraded to the R6, then bought the R6 mk II two years later as I always wanted to have 2 camera bodies and the 6 series is enough for me.
I agree completely that most photographers don’t need this camera if they have the R5, nor does it offer compelling reasons for a lots of photographers to buy this camera over the much more affordable R5.
I however am one of those photographers who will benefit, probably not $4200 worth of benefits but I can afford it and it will make me happy. I shoot mostly wildlife so the improved AF and improved shutter readout will help. Granted, I am talking about improving my keeper rate and reducing rolling shutter. Since I am an amateur, not a pro, the only question I have to answer is will it make me happy, I don’t have to justify the cost by answering, will it make me more money. That answer would be no for most people.

What I like about the MK ii is that it will make the MK 1 cheaper. My 5dmkiv is plenty enough to go along with my WELL USED 6d (2nd shutter), but it's soon going to be not supported. I figure to buy a MK 1 either used (I have to get a stellar price) or new when they are blowing them out. Lighting and subject matter is way more important.

I currently use the 5D MK IV. I want to go mirrorless soon/eventually. When the R5 MK II was released, I debated opting for it. Now I'm not so sure? I'm definitely moving to the R5, but I don't think the MK II is gonna be worth the price increase for what I want to specialize in.

@CoffeeandPhotographyTalk you're exactly right. I love learning flower, macro, and landscape photography. But I want to dive deeper into portrait and weddings. I don't think the II is gonna be needed. Gonna cost enough for the lenses. LOL 🤦
@jamesollis you’re thinking exactly right. Money spent on lenses is money that will last for decades.
Keep in mind that for some of the video features in the R5 mk II you need to purchase the new batteries ( they’re not the same as the R5/R6/R3 batteries). So there are additional expenses to budget for. It might make the most sense to buy an R5 or R6 mk II and invest in lenses
@cjm8160 that I did not know. I believe I'm just gonna upgrade to the R5 and put money into the lenses. I'm not a videographer by any stretch. Proof of the videos I've taken with my MK IV of my granddaughter. LOL. Thanks for the input/info. Very helpful for me
I wanted a high megapixel camera. So was waiting for a new R5. I am a little edgy about it still. It's big $$$ but this will be awesome for my portraits. I'm an R6 user.

speaking as a hobby photographer, owning a Canon R8 and a Canon 90D, the auto focus of R8 makes it easier to get a great sharp shot, however with the 90D, I have to work harder to get a great shot, but the sense of achievement I get from getting that tack sharp image using 90D is greater ! So I don’t really want the in camera tech to get any “better”than what I have now in the R8, I feel it would just take some of the fun out of photography..

Ok, so you are another youtuber who doesn't have the camera but have a lot of opinions. Oh dear, that's great. Of course, you are free to say whatever you want, but I think it was way wise to wait for the camera, to work with and after that to have an opinions based on real facts, not only on assumptions.
That’s fair…. To a point. But if you understand the effect feature X will have on your photography, you don’t need to have the camera to know if you need it or not.
To determine how WELL a feature works, yes. That’s what reviewers do and I have no interest in.
I got a used R5 on ebay for 1850 USD a week ago. The prices on the R5 MK I have come down so much it doesn't make sense to buy the MK II when you can get two MK Is for the same price.

Just found your channel. Your comments largely chime with my view, this new camera will not improve what I can get from my camera which is an R5. I am a hobbyist wildlife photographer, mainly stills with occasional video. There are one or two features that appeal (and I do like new gadgets 😀!) improved AF and the ability to choose electronic frame rate for instance. Does that make it worth the money? Not sure it does, that said I will wait and see what others find in the real world. My success as a photographer are limited by my abilities not the camera!
