When why and how to use ON CAMERA FLASH
To me , someone use wrong way to mirrorlens Sony alpha ,because I read mirror lens is all light already in no need flashlight just enough with environment
I wrestle with this question from time to time. Earlier this year I switched from Nikon (after 20+ years), and went to Canon. Prior to cleaning out my Nikon treasure, I picked up an R6M2 and it was a nice switch. I was given a nice trade in offer for my Nikon gear. I wound up walking out of the store with an R5M2 without spending any more money. The R6M2 is lighter in weight and takes a great photo. The one thing that blew me away with the R5M2 was the ability to shoot an event with a zoom at many different focal lengths, and when I needed to reframe and crop, it was incredibly convenient. I remember an uncle who was a competitive marksman telling me this old adage, "A good shooter will shoot good with any rifle, and a bad shooter will shoot poorly even with the best rifle." Gear is a tool to get the job done. You still need a solid foundation on how to get the job done regardless of the tool. Yeah, the bells and whistles can speed up your routine, and allow for some flexibility, but you still need to know what you are doing. I really like your videos.
It is possible with modern cameras to set the lowest iso, and a maximum the camera will use with auto iso. This way, it is possible to have acceptable iso while the photographer still has to keep an eye on the aperture to have an acceptable shutter speed. Modern cameras make live easier, certainly with today's good high iso, while excellent photographers still handle their camera in such a way they have the cleanest pictures
If it does not come with the lens then it means IT'S NOT THAT IMPORTANT ! So don't fret about the lens hood.
👍👍👍 SUPER
Hi I’m getting into flash photography. Question. Why is my flash power not going down to 256. I’m stuck at 1/128. Please give me advice. Thank you.
Good point about bringing backup units. I have an old 580EXii also. I don't like using it on camera because it is big and heavy. But it is indestructible. Plus, it has an infrared light to help you focus in the dark without blinding anyone. My Yongnuo flash doesn't have that. But the little pullout white reflector on the Yongnuo came off in my hand the other day in the middle of a job. Who knows what will go next. Deciding what unit is right is for you, especially with remote triggers involved, is not easy. And you may need two, so you have backup. You are the voice of reason in YT photography.
I appreciate this video so much. I am getting into flash photography for the 1st time. Thank you.
Would you recommend the Godox TT350 or is that too weak for outdoor and wedding photography?
Subscribed!! I just got the keys to my first ever studio!! It’ll be a photography and art studio! Thank you for your video
Is this flash compatible with Canon R10?
Man, I’ve been watching tens of videos to understand OCP, yours is way way way way better. You are simply THE BEST. Thanks a million 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks so much!
@@CoffeeandPhotographyTalk I just applied what I learned from you and man, I am up two levels at least. Thanks again
Great tips - thank you!! Your video just "happened" to pop up on my RUclips channel. Perhaps because I needed some guidance with my new Godox V860IIIS Flash. More specifically using flash inside of church where the lighting is so warm and the ceilings are so high. I'm not a professional photographer but always the "go to" person asked to take photos at gatherings and feel stressed because I don't practice enough so when it comes time to take pictures, it's like starting from square one again. I am using a Sony A6500 (APS-C) and Sigma 24-70mm lens which is heavy for my hands so I use a tripod. I shoot in AP mode. Any advice on using the flash with all of these variables? Appreciate it!
Прагматичный подход настоящего профессионала без проплаченных L-выводов 👍.
I just retired so I thought I would give photography a try. I just bought the Sony A7RV, Sony 85mm GM 2 f/1.4 and the Sony 35mm GM f/1.4 Whenever I start a new hobby I hate upgrading later
Macro stabilization is only two stops.
dope review man
Hi, thanks for doing this. Helped me decide to purchase this for house hunting.
This and the old ef 200 prime were my bread and butter. I still use the 200 on Sony and think it's the best 200 ever made. It has so much character like the 50 1.4 that modern lenses just don't have anymore.
I just heard a rumor Canon is coming out with an RF50mm 1.4. Don’t know if it’s true
@@CoffeeandPhotographyTalk I ditched Canon after using them for 20 years when I went mirrorless. I still use a couple old L lenses though. I think I'm about to switch once again to Nikon though lol. Not sure. I'm still using a Sony 7Riii which I love but the raw files from the z7ii are sweet. I also like Nikon's glass choices and their 1.8s have great character instead of the "must be clinical" glass everyone is making these days.
Loved this lens when i shot Canon. My only gripe was the build quality. The internal collar that moved the glass was notoriously bad. I went through 3 or 4 copies of this lens and got good at repairing them lol. I almost want to buy another one to use on Sony. Some of my best shots were made with that lens. I've been switching my stance over the years and going more to character glass over clinical sharpness.
My understanding from other reviews is that it has FOCUS SHIFT issues, making it useless for accurate macro work. Even with manual focus as soon as it is stopped down it will shift focus. I really wanted to get this lens but guess I'll have to stick with my EF 100 for my mirrorless camera. Good macro and lighting tips though!
Clear item
Thank you Hayward for the helpful and informative tutorial! God bless, good luck and keep creating!
Thank you so much!
I totally agree!! im carrying a $1,500 5diii and 5div canon camera, and one of my friends carrying a $6,000 z9 Nikon camera and his work is okay, im like seriously!!
Thanks for thèse vidéo. So helpful. I purchased this lense for food photography. I think it’s worth it for the investment 😊. I managed a food truck in France 🇫🇷 and I need photos of my food that are good enough to eat. I would like to have more videos from you, using this lens for food photography, if you can. I would really appreciate it 🙏 Thanks again.
If the ef lenses work flawlessly with the adapter and they are a fraction of the price of RF it makes sense to buy EF unless you come across either a great deal on the RF glass or there is not an EF lens available to fill the role of a new RF (maybe some new zoom range and f-value not available in ef).
In response you you asking what our interests are; I’m interested in lighting, positioning, composition, how to photograph events, weddings and ……….. I’m a Nikon and GODOX user, not interested in hearing about Canon or Sony cameras. But more important is knowing what brand of coffee you drink🤓👍
hi thank you for the video, i have just got mine this week. can you share some tips for using it for portraits please
Your channel content is awesome! I have got a lot of tips from your videos. Keep up the good work!
Yes
Found you video on flashing. I doing a wedding and this will come in handy. Thank You, Brenda
it may work in portraits and landscapes if they are still. But with motion it dont really work. For me, Av NEVER works, the camera ALWAYS selects the wrong shutter if Im trying to gt birds or something. In fact, I cant seem to get any of the semi auto modes to work on my r7 given my subject so Im typically stuck in Manual
I hve the older 100mm 2.8, the red line is a bit pricy for me, the 100mm was a gift, almost brand new..., man this lens is crazy fun, great portrait and macro, so a great job in focus stacking, just very happy with it,
Thank you. I enjoyed the commentary. Maybe you could do a video on your camera. What great features it has and how many of those features a pro portrait photographer uses.
Hi there...I just finished watching your RF vs EF lens video and while I realize the video is not recent, I am facing a bit of a dilemma as I need to replace my EF 70-200 f/2.8 USM I lens...yep it’s 20 yrs old and autofocus has become an issue...I had it serviced, but the results are not great on my R5MKII and my R3...I still have my 5D MKIII and my 7D MKII...the 70-200 was my goto lens in the past for travel, but since I had my 100-400 4-5.6 IS USM II, I have been using that one with the 70-200 and extender as a backup if things went bad...I always travel with 2 bodies and at least 1 long lens with the backup being the 70-200 extender combo...obviously R5MKII and R3 will accompany me on my next wildlife photo trip, and I was thinking of replacing the 70-200 with the RF 200 f/2.8, but I just found out that I can’t put the RF extender on the that lens...so to get another long zoom lens I was looking at the RF 100-500, but that gives me 2 lens with pretty much the same range...watching your video, goth me to think that I could get the latest version of the EF 70-200 F2.8 III...it would give me a fast lens that I could still use on my 5D MKIII and 7D MKII...and I could use the EF extender to give me the backup range I need when I travel...do you have any comment on such a scenario.
It’s all about what trade offs matter most. If you have the latest gen EF, the image quality will be pretty darn good at much lower price. It won’t equal RF glass on the RF cams, but it would be the best you could do and still have EF for the other bodies. It’s probably the best compromise without selling all EF and going RF. I don’t shoot long lens like that so I’ll be honest that’s not an issue I’ve tried to tackle. Thanks for watching and good luck!
@@CoffeeandPhotographyTalk Thanks for your quick reply…if I could put the extender on the RF it would have been a no brainer…I’m thinking more the range of lens and having a backup to my EF 100-400 if it goes bad…I’m extremely satisfied with my EF 100-400 R3 and R5MKII COMBO…so I don’t think I would be compromising image quality with the 3rd version…the side benefit would be the fit on DSLR bodies…again thx
I appreciate this
What microphone are you using? Your voice sounds brilliant.
Just a rode micro👍
I just discovered your channel and I appreciate your approach. You being a professional photographer with a studio, it's good to listen to someone whose photography experience and knowledge can be shared. I don't need to listen to someone who only wants to showoff their new expensive camera they just purchased and why you should buy one too. To me, the most successful presentations on RUclips are of those that either teach improving technique, understanding the technical parts of exposure, dynamic range, etc., etc., and simply demonstrating the joy and satisfaction of creating a wonderful image.
I've owned the R5 for about 2 years and really like it's functionality and the image quality. I've never shot a second of video with it (not my thing) and only some wildlife. I shoot mostly landscapes, portraits, abstracts, etc.; essentially still images. After seeing all the reviews, I am not going to upgrade as I don't see enough improvements in the updated model for me to switch to this camera. Also, a new camera will NOT improve one's photography. It's the photographer, not the gear that makes great images. What a new camera does is psychological. It can kickstart someone who has not picked up or used their camera in a while to become re-energized to go out an realize once again their love for photography. I do disagree on more megapixels even on full frame cameras. It does help those when doing deep crops, especially for printing. Medium format, while great, is much more expensive than full frame and perhaps to many people cost prohibitive. Also, the options for lenses are more limiting and they are more expensive as well.
Product quality is very bad! Hot shoe mount breaks easily! moreover the mount is too costly! Bad job Godox 👎👎👎👎
i really suck at flashes etc , have no clue what to do. So do you need that other instrument to shoot your flash with a camera? else i forgot to buy that hahaha
on camera flash... would love to find out more. Basic lighting, light meters, anything to become a better photographer, but excluding cameras reviews... Yuck
Im still using the Canon RP and I don't have any plans to up grade for the type of work that I do. You have stayed true to your word about getting new cameras and your philosophy behind it. And I for one appreciate it.
This is an unbelievably well put together video. I really love the presentation style and all the information you put in the video
Thank you so much!
Yeah I was just looking for a video on some tips and tricks for using this lens for product shots.
One thing I like about your videos is the amount of understandable information you pack into a short time. Other channels take 20 or 30 minutes for a video and I didn't really get anything out of it.
Thanks so much!
I have a pair of Neewer RGB LED panels. They're great. very versatile and easy to use.
I'm staying EF and DSLR until they completely solve the R5 overheating problems.
I went from a 5D mk2 to the R6 mk1, I was then able to relax about focus while shooting weddings and portraits. As you said it's about file size and dynamic range, so the R5 just doesn't fit with what I use the camera for. I'm looking at the R now as a travel camera, giving more MP for landscapes etc at a reasonable price point and agree with everything that you say.
Yeah, the focus with mirrorless just rocks doesn’t it? Thanks for watching!
How do you determine the power of a flash, and what would be the minimum strength for outdoor use? Thank you for the videos. The way you explain things it makes sense. I have watched other peoples videos and ended up more confused than before watching.
Thanks so much! You have to look at the mfg specs. Larger flashes are rated in watt-seconds. For outdoor use in my opinion you need at least 100ws preferably 200 or more.
@@CoffeeandPhotographyTalk Thanks
