You mentioned for flying birds you might up the shutter speed even more (but I missed or didn't see some example values? Any suggested values?). I've started shooting some videos this year and getting better with Canon R5. I use C3 for 1/60 and 30fps, C2 for 1/120 and 60 fps. Shooting mostly water fowl/flights and small very fast critters...I suspect I could at least double my shutter speed settings for both C2 and C3. One note for Canon users is that if you just hit the record button while taking stills it jumps to your C3 settings...so pick wisely.
Like always I look for your videos to upgrade my knowledge. Now I feel I am more comfortable shooting videos. Thanks once again for the excellent video
thanks for this video! I've spent the past week or two looking for videos to help a beginner get started, and there aren't as many good ones as I would have thought.
So many things that need to be taken into account in order to get these most amazing results of yours!!! Masterly presented video with top examples. Great to watch.
Thanks Jan for the awesome tutorial. I really enjoy the videography tips, I find I'm really liking shooting video when the opportunity arises. BTW, your presets have really helped my post processing work flow.
Amazing video, really learned a lot! I did find the blinking light on the monitor in the background a little distracting in spots....might be something to watch for in future content.
Thank you Jan, I always draw some new info from you videos I just wished I wasn't panicking so much switching between stills and videos in the field with my r7 and R5 I guess it's just more and more practice.
Hi Jan, thanks for this extremely useful guideline for birders like me who don't shoot video that often (yet). You were explaining well the troubles of filming in very bright conditions .. and I actually "make use" of that problem as an opportunity in totally opposite conditions: sometimes we're renting a bird hide months in advance, and when it's raining or very dark in the early hours it can be too dark to shoot decent stills, but it's often fine to shoot some nice video. Can it be at 7:55 you're already sharing a glimpse of the R5ii menu ??
Great video as always Jan. I still don't do a lot of video, but for sure after this video i will do it more. Wishing you and yours all the best. Cheers, Boern
As always, good video. Something to consider when choosing between PAL and NTSC settings, is flicker that is caused by artificial light powered by mains power. Ok, this won't be a problem in the field during the day, but if you do use artificial light (eg. indoor shooting), this could be an issue and something to keep in mind if you do run into problems.
Thanks for another fabulous video again Jan! May I share my settings on my R5 for your comments please. I don’t do post on video (yet!) and therefor don’t do log. My registered settings are: * C3 - FHD; 59fps; ALL-I * (Rec 1h:20m; 1/125s;f10) * C2 - 4K-D; 59fps; ALL-I * (Rec 15m; 1/125s;f8) * (High quality rec.!) * C1 - FHD; 29fps; ALL-I * (Rec 2h:40m ; 1/60s;f10) Thanks!
👍👍👍 I've been using your video setup on my R5s and a 600 F4 in a Whistling wings speed shooter now now for a long time .. 120 fps is easier but I get away with slower frame rates, as long as I keep it as stable as possible pressing my eye against the VF and on occasionally using the WARP stabilizer in premier pro.. it passes for IG post ..I love that with your setup I can shoot stills, and switch to video 30,60 or 120 fps without ever taking my eye out of the viewfinder or going into a menu and all using my right hand as I am usually olding a 600 F4 so my left hand is unavailable
Jan please explore higher noice levels with r5m2 compèred to r5 when restoring 5-6 ev stops from shadows in electronic shutter mode. Hoping you will highlight this during r5m2 review. I already preordered r5m2 and worry about it. Dpreview already published this problem.
Thanks Jan. A couple of good tips(breaking 180-degree rule) about changing from photo to video when nd filters are not practical. Also I was wondering between PAL(Australia) and NTSC when filming outside. Does it matter as no internal lighting issues(flicker) to deal with?
Brilliant ! Have you used a monopod for long-range filming also ? Getting tired of lugging my tripod around but not so sure about stability w/monopod. Thks for another great video
On the lenses that you use there is no place for drop-in varable ND filters. Their range is from ND3 to ND500 (1.5-8EV) at least in case of the one I am using, so you don't need to get it off all the time
@@jan_wegener It might still be relevant in other countries, but PAL doesn't exist in Australia anymore as our TVs are digital. I just prefer NTSC for the more standard frame rates🤷
Hello Jan, this was incredible, I’ve been in PAL all this time and wondering why I couldn’t get some frame rates 🫢 can you recommend a video stabilization software ?
Clear and concise. Part 2 : Bitrate, All-Intra vs Long GOP compression, color spaces, 8bit vs 10bit, H265 vs H264, ...
Doesn't really matter when 99% of people here shoot for Instagram 😅

Very informative. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Fantastic video and great tips for filming. Thank you so much 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

That's a very helpful and informative video my friend. Thanks!
My pleasure!

As always a great video. Just imagine how many people you’ve helped with sharing your knowledge! What editing software do you use/recommend?
I use Davinci resolve
Thank you Jan, this was a very helpful video like always.👍

just the video I needed. I am curious if you use variable ND filters that you can keep on during photos?
Great video, many thanks!
great video on video!!!

Whistling Wing shooter gang here that harness is the best wildlife accessory there is. Surprised more content creators don’t use or talk about it

Can you please tell me the Zebra settings for Nikon Z9 in standard video profile ?
And a great video as always 👍
I think I left the standard ones
HEY! Nothing wrong with videos that contain birds shot in slow motion set to dramatic music.
any thoughts on white balance settings? set at a K value ?
Yes I usually set around 5200
Hi Jan, nothing to do with the video but I got what looks like a scam email supposedly from you. It’s titled “I’m back”. Is it you?
It was from me. Restarting my email list
NTSC and PAL are irrelevant in 2024 unless you are broadcasting TV. I just use NTSC in Australia.
And yet it’s still in every camera
