Did you not see the whole video he clearly said that he won’t show or tell all the details due to a possibility of losing that job. He also said that not every swe does the same thing. Other than that he showed us exactly what he does almost everyday.
@@Kaji-999 If he cannot show us some minor details, i understand. But this was way too general. It's basically nothing. There's really no point to this video and no need to even make it of there's barely anything to explain.
Software engineers design, develop, and maintain software applications, systems, and platforms. They write code, debug, test, and deploy software to meet specific requirements and solve problems for businesses, organizations, or users. They often work collaboratively with other engineers, designers, and stakeholders to create efficient and effective solutions.
Hey Marco, I just had a chance to view this. It is such a great video. I never really knew what a software engineer does. You explained it beautifully. You kept it at a high level so folks like me could understand it. I know it’s a lot more complicated than what you presented but it gave us an idea as to what you do. Great job. 👍👍💯
I am postgraduate accounting student (chartered accountant stream), I have taken a liking into software engineering and this was an insightful video, thank you. Love from South Africa
Tbh, you are the only SWE I follow or even watch on RUclips........but that's just because you're so damned entertaining! I really do appreciate the high level explanation of what you do-I didn't have much of a clue what you actually did. Besides lunch. And dinner with friends. And boarding around NYC. And working out......Merry Christmas!
this really helped me get a better view on software engineering, and gives me more confidence on starting college next year! Thank you so much for this, it was really helpful
Been watching your videos for a while and felt like I needed this one. I always wonder in your other videos “where is work being done and what does he do for work?” This cleared so much up. I am deployed right now and have been debating on what college/career path I want to pursue when I am back at my duty station. I am for sure going to get the computer science route, loved the video.
Thanks for the upload! It significantly reduced my stress and gave me a broader view about what it's like to be a swe. You're cool Marcos, I'm definitely going to follow your channel in the future.
Ohh the meetings yes. Please make sure to defend your own calendar long term. Lots of engineers I mentored/managed complained about their meeting loads until I encouraged them to actually decline meetings. Thanks for sharing your day :)

Hi Marcos! I am a junior student majoring in CS. The curriculum of our school is very simple, and sometimes when I start to deal with some unfamiliar projects, I don't know how to start at all, which makes me feel very anxious. I feel that I can't learn computer well, not because I am stupid, but because I haven't been introduced at all.
Hey, my 10 year old s very interested in becoming a software engineer one day. We watched your video to get a better idea and he is even more psyched about it. Thanks for the entertaining video, btw. Hey. I’m a truck driver and I’m looking to being a software engineer. I’m 36 and have no experience in this field. What advice would you give to someone like me?
What are some free or low cost coding training courses? I see many online, but don't know which to choose. Are they legit? Do they have to be credited?
My friend was a professor in the CS department at Berkeley. Wasn't CS at Berkeley #1 and Engineering #3 for a long long time? I know he was in AI and AI was #1 at Berkeley -- so... I mean, a CS degree from Berkeley. LUL.
Game developers are still in the world of software engineering so many things will overlap. I think the biggest difference is that games themselves don't work like traditional apps / websites and often don't use the same frameworks. But that can all be learned on the job as long as you have a good foundation on how to code and computer science theory :)
Tell me how can i be more proficient with my coding skills i am clear with fundamentals and basics (i first year student ), how much skill does it take to be ready to work in a firm .
HI MArcos! I am a full time Nurse here in the UK and I am looking into changing career as a software engineer. At the beginning I wanted to enroll in a university to take comsci to get more opportunities in the digital world. I came across this Digital Bootcamp funded by the government for those seeking jobs in the digital world and changing career path. I just want to know if you think this is worth it? As a software engineer, do some of them discriminate people who just studied in bootcamps or self study than those who took a degree in the digital field?
Hey Marc, I'm a rising junior in college planning to become a software architect once I spend some years initially as a software developer. I came across a video on RUclips a few days ago where they recommended Python, AWS, and Linux as a set of new languages to become a software engineer in 2022. I was wondering if these would be safe skills to go for if my ultimate goal is to become a software architect, and I plan to join a company as a software developer intern next year. Although I'm expected to learn Java and C++ over next few years in college. I know software architect is still a long way to go for me, but still as I have to start somewhere, at least as I'm planning to get an internship next year as a Soft Engr/Developer, do you think I should go for the above set of skills before applying for an internship? Nice vid btw as always!
Honestly, I would worry less about what languages you need to learn and focus more on concept (i.e. data structures, computer architecture, databases, concurrency / parallelisms, etc). Out of college, most recruiters want cs students that know how to think, not code in a specific language or know a specific framework, as one can always learn that on the job :)
As 1st Year Computer Science with Pharmaceutical Applications major, it feels like you’re in another world when like coding at 12midnight while everyone is sleeping and I feel like I’m floating in the air, though the best thing with it is that it makes me more critical thinker and allow my sense to be more productive during the day! HAPPY HOLIDAYS MARCOS! 🎉
Honestly, I think they're both equally as useful. Whichever one you can afford / can do is better than nothing so it's up to personal preference if you can do both!
Hi Marcos! I’m currently a junior in high school and I am considering to pursue Software Engineering. I’m not sure if it’s better to major in Computer Science or Software Engineering when I get to college, what do you recommend?
I mean... You can probably teach yourself everything you need to know about software engineering, but unless you're truly exceptional, I'm not sure you could get any major tech company - or even the smaller ones - to actually hire you without a degree.
did u have coding experience before u went to berkeley? i feel like i legit dont have the intelligence to solve some of these psets in these upper div classes, how did u learn to get better at problem solving if u didnt have prior experience
I had zero coding experience before Berkeley and I feel your struggle! I completely failed first few midterms of the lower divs and would take 5x longer for every assignment. Everyone at Berkeley is so smart tho and I learned to leverage that to (basically force them to teach me lol) and that really helped! If you can form study groups that's my best advice
@@marcosricopeng did u feel like overtime u were able to be more indepedent in ur studying? i do ask ppl for help and they help me clear up some misconception about a topic, but i feel my general studying or thinking process is the issue so i frequently see that i need help every week. when i ask ppl about how they internalize information its pretty general tips and i feel like sometimes they dont know how to explain their own intuition
