Went from the LG 34WK95-U. Immediately noticed the lower brightness in comparison but have since gotten used to it. I love this monitor. Expensive? Yes. But I don't regret buying it. I do programming and the screen real-estate is perfect! It's also great for watching movies and for flying on MSFS 2020. Only wish the monitor control joystick were on the side instead of the center. I use a Tobii Eye Tracker and it's meant to be placed centered under the monitor. It makes accessing the joystick kind of tricky. I also don't like that HDMI only maxes out at 50hz response but easily goes down to 30hz. I have an M1 14" MBP connected via TB4 and it's great at native res of 5k2k. I also have my Gaming PC connected via DP to an RTX 3090 and it also looks great at 5k2k 72hz. My work laptop is a Lenovo X280 connected via HDMI and that runs at 30hz when I run it at the highest resolution the laptop can support on this monitor which is 3840 x 1620. If I run it at it's HDMI suggested resolution for the Lenovo of 3440 x 1440 then it will run at 50hz which is still kind of slow. The 34wk95-U was 60hz all around. Either way, let's hope LG will somehow fix this via bios update, if it can even be done.

Great review, very concise whilst covering all the important stuff you really need to know.
I tried one of these with a Mac Studio but ended up returning it because of the poor scaling and max brightness. As you mentioned in your review, the 5K resolution is very nice, but if you’re using this with a Mac and are expecting “retina-link” experience at all of the supported resolutions, you’re going to be disappointed. That said, it may or may not be an issue for you depending on what you’re used to and what you’re going to use it for.
The only other thing I’ve found with this monitor and other LGs is that occasionally they won’t come on when you wake your Mac from sleep. It’s been an issue for as long as I can remember and still hasn’t been fixed with this one when connecting over TB4.
If macOS is going to suck at scaling, why won’t Apple produce monitors in a wider range of sizes?

I thought Apple would have introduced fractional screen scaling with the initial advent of Mac Minis given that they are a 'bring your own monitor' device and Apple can never be certain what monitor resolution you are running. (the display screen like alternative resolutions, is just as you say, fuzzy). This is another area where Windows wipes the floor with Mac unfortunately.

How about the Lenovo display that uses the same LG panel? I currently feel that it slightly beats the native LG display shown here - tiny bit higher refresh rate, little better IO options, two flavours of power delivery?

Superb video, mate! Recently I also had this "problem" with picking up the right ultrawide monitor, mostly for programming as I like to have more of the working space available. I ended up with the Samsung G9 49', it's amazing but it has one big flaw... 1440p. When I achieved the native resolution of 5120x1440 with 120Hz the text not only in my coding editors but also in the browser looked like it was "pixelated" which sometimes, especially at the night ends up my eyes really tired. Right now I'm reconsidering replacing it with something different, but still big enough to call it ultrawide - and you almost convinced me to try with the LG UltraWide 40WP95C-W. I wonder, do you have some comparison and/or opinion with/about the Samsung G9? Is the quality really that better?

I noticed the same thing with my Samsung G9. It unfortunately fell of my desk after my dog got stuck on the cord so I really need a new one now. I have been thinking about going back to dual monitors, have you thought about that?

I have the same issue.. probably two 27" 1440p (not 4k otherwise the text become too small and you need the scaling) is the best option though

Hey guys, I came back to this comment by accident, though I wanted to share small insight from my end regarding my choice - I went with the LG 40WP95C-W and it's absolutely the perfect sweet spot for my needs. The quality is finally on the level I'd expect from a monitor from this price range and the screen space is fantastic. I'm using it with my 2 Macs (16' and 14' MacBooks Pro M1) and it's perfect. To sum up - if anyone is considering to buy this monitor - just go for it!

I bought the Samsung CRG9 odyssey 49- hooked up to a MacBook pro 15 (HDMI) and a MacBook pro M1 (USB-C thunderbolt). want to love the picture-by-picture feature. The problem is: in sleep mode, it takes too long to find the DP 1.4 connection and wake up. over a minute. And when in PBP mode it can't decide which screen (1 or 2) is HDMI or DP 1.4. is this a Samsung issue and a mac issue? I heard Samsung doesn't work well with mac.

Question. Do you have any info about MacBook air thunderbolt output resolutions to external monitor or TV which are supporting 120hz refresh rate? Everyone says that only MacBook pro supports high refresh rate via thunderbolt and on MacBook air models this function is purposely limited to 4k 60hz. Is that true?

Question: I am interested in high resolution primarily for sharpness of text since I am coder... from what you said though I am afraid that the 4k resolution with scaling would not be any better than a lower resolution (like the other LG ultrawide you mentioned) with no scaling?

Hi There. I bought this monitor after watching your video. I just would like to ask you couple of important questions. I work with Lightroom + Photoshop and edit RAW files and inside Premiere Pro. Would you please tell what picture mode I should be in when I am editing RAW files inside Lightroom and Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Would that be sRGB or DCI-P3 or something else? Also do you need to calibrate this monitor using a calibration software such X-rite Display Pro. Thank you for your help.

    • @CreatedTech
      @CreatedTech  2 года назад

The picture mode depends what and where you want your final images and videos viewed. Internet? Print media? etc. If you're just a casual user, it doesn't really matter. However I would choose DCI-P3 because that has a wider color gamut than sRGB, which means it will usually be more accurate.
Calibration is the same - usually only professionals need to calibrate monitors, because they need their final images to be extremely color accurate. Unless you also need this capability, I wouldn't waste money on calibration hardware and software.

Please review Alogic Clarity 27" UHD Monitor! It's the next best thing after Apple Studio Display, or the LG Ultrafine 5k display.
I can't bear to look at the matte anti-glare coating on basically ALL the monitors on sale in the market. The glossy displays on MacBooks and other Apple displays are amazing to look at with no loss in contrast or sharpness of the image. High brightness levels make reflections a non-issue pretty much. I don't know why there isn's a higher demand for glossy displays, but the Alogic 27" monitors was the only affordable alternative that I could find to Apple Studio Display or the LG Ultrafine 5k.
