I've bought a lot of my tools based on your recommendations. These are some of my favorites. I use them every day at work and whenever I do work at my house, this is what I bring home. Keep up the real world videos.
Ha, yeah I work for a JLR dealer and I have gotten to the point that I try a wrench on that fill plug and if it doesn’t turn with moderate pressure I go straight to the air chisel.
I just got the exact same Icon set and so far I LOVE them! With a 25% off coupon, they cost me $150.00. For me it was either the Icons or the Napa/Carlyle set...but the Napa wrenches are priced at $290.00 list/$245.00 on sale for the set! Ouch!
Haha, I broke an 8mm craftsman wrench doing the exact same thing on a Jaguar trans fill plug not even a month ago! I ended up cutting off the end of an allen L wrench, which worked for me.
I have both the EZ Red and Mountain set. Love them, my go to tool all the time. NOT a high torque tool, the hinge pin is too soft and will bend or break, and the inner ratcheting part can crack but still works. Overall, a must have for everything he described!
Napa has the same set on sale through the end of the month for $115.99 which would include their lifetime warranty. 5PC XL Double Box Flex Ratcheting Wrench Set - Metric. Part #: CHT RWLBFL5M
Yours are going to break your mountain if you use them to break tight nuts and bolts.. The mountain set alone is not enough. You should also get the gearwrench 120xp wrench set. You can use the non-ratchet end of gearwrench to break loose first and then use the mountain. Doing so should make you unlikely to break any wrenches. By the way, the gearwrench non-ratchet side is offset but the ratchet end is flat. The two set wrenches complete each other. The mounttains do not have non-ratchet ends , and the gearwrenches do not have reverses. Like you, I only have the mountain set, but I am thinking about getting the gearwrench set for the usage I mentioned. One more thing, why you do not use a 6 points 1/2 drive 19mm for Honda crankbolt?
Was looking on Amazon. A lot of people complaining about the durability and lack of warranty. This set is $150 right now. I'm a home mechanic. That price sounds reasonable to me. The fact that you are ok with the reason they break coupled with that price, I think replacing them at $30 each, which is the individual price on Amazon atm, trumps a tool truck's price for the lifetime warranty. If I were a full-time mechanic, that warranty would be awesome.
Bought the full set of these wrenches. It's my favorite tool in my toobox right now. Love the offset and flex head... good quality considering the significant price differences compared to other brands.
Have a set of them Craftsman professionals been using them for 20 years I have snap on Mac Cornwell always reach for the Craftsman professional made in USA never had a problem.
Matco has a set now, so if youre having warranty issues because they are the trucks brand maybe that will be a good route. And the larger sizes come in a 2pc set(21-24mm) from Monster tools
There great wrenches I used the 8mm on 6.4 powerstrokes all the time and I use the 18mm to torque turn 6.0 heads near the hvac box. Highly recommend these
Love mine. 12x14 and 17x19 get a lot of play. I do have an extra 12x14 in case of breakage, as that one gets used the most. Mine are PLATINUM by ATD. Great get for any tech.
Got the same set via ATD (#99650 XL), mainly due to ease of warranty from local supplier. Agree. I use them daily. I was worried about the spline drive, but they grab pretty good. Very useful addition to the toolbox. I've reefed on them hard enough I had to put a glove on (edges are a little sharp). One warranty so far (reversing button issue).
+Monte Stu 8mm hex bit, from snap on never broke or stripped the hole, plug on the side of the tranny , the Craftsman wrench was something i found in a car so not worried about it
These are made in Taiwan by KABO, a top rate hand tool manufacturer. They also make a lot of the Carlyle tools for NAPA. The way you can tell they're KABO is the reversing button.
SATAMAN Schmidt, I just did a review of the AirPro SA-3144 you sold me a coupe years ago. It still kicks but! If you ever start selling them again feel fee to put a link on where to get them in the comments of my video. Thanks, Chris
I have the old Matco non offset non reversible type. Matco has since made the offset type. I’ve been meaning to pick up the newer version. I will say there a few situations where space is tight . You need the flat clearance. But if your not careful ( because it’s non reversible) you get stuck. Where you can’t run the bolt back in to remove the wrench. But you can’t get the bolt all the way out. That only happened to me once. After that I always check my wrench removal clearances.
I can see a need for these wrenches. I have a few spline drive sockets and wrenches, they work well but you're correct, if its not seated properly it can cause damage.
Mac used to carry them but they had a falling out with monster/Mountain so now he doesn't carry their tools anymore. Now they have exact same tool but rebranded as "Platnium" used my co workers today for the first time and was pleased.
Can't live without my mountain Wrench set. I've broken a handful of them to. I guess next time you will pull the fill plug first before draining it. Lol
I’ve got a set of these, love them to bits, use them every day. Head tech has a set that he beats the piss out of. I’ve seen him snap 19 and 21 MM bolts with them. Very stout tools
I bought this same set a few years ago from Northern Tool. Klutch branded. They are great wrenches, but that spline drive will definitely get caught on bolts heads.
I have a set of Kamasa's (Swedish high quality tool brand) i use them several times each day, works perfect when unloading tensioners, upper bolts on rear brake calipers on fwd VW's and lower downpipe bolt on Saab 9-5 ;) Best tool investment this year forsure!
I was wondering why several brands sell the same wrench. Thank you. I noticed the offset on those good wrenches. All the cheapos are missing that feature. Harbor F sells them as icon. I suppose that's a fast return/replace location for most people if you need the warranty feature.
Buy em soon while they are in stock, because the quit making them. You already can't warranty them for the same one. The replacement they send you has a locking flex head, but it will only let a nut/bolt go in on the offset end and it's shorter.
I’m just a backyard mechanic who works on his own cars (and sometimes friend’s cars). It seems like the main purpose of these tools is for flat rate mechanics who want to shave minutes off a job. Am I wrong? All I care about is getting the job done well (not willing to spend a bunch of money to save ten minutes changing a water pump). I have a good collection of regular box wrenches, flare wrenches, sockets, breaker bars, regular and flex head ratchets. Would I ever get into a situation where I couldn’t do the job without these, or something like this? I know you mainly advise professional auto techs, but as a DIY guy, I still love your channel.
These are absolutely worth it, the 12/14 is probably one of my favorite tools in my tool box. I would get them from Matco or Icon instead of mountain, these will break so you want to have a good warranty.
I accidentally got these for free off Amazon.... 😬 they were like $150ish from what I remember, so I paid it and a week later I get a box of like 25 abrasive sponge discs. So I messaged Amazon to send me what I ordered, but they said they'll just give me a refund. So they did and the wrenches came 2 days later haha so they're DEFINITELY worth the money. For real though I use them all the time on Nissans, I am just really careful to avoid using too much force like when breaking things loose. So far so good!
I have a Matco set of double box ratcheting wrenches don't have a Matco truck I bought them on eBay had to buy an EZ-Red 13x15 when the 13mm head pin fell out and the the box fell off love my EZ-Red but will probably swap over to a Tekton set cause Tekton makes them in 6 pointed double box and I'm one of those guys that prefers 6 over 12 point or spline drive sockets, wrenches, ratcheting wrenches etc
I just recently found our if you want a set like these but with an easily obtained warranty without the tool truck you can find them at Napa under the Carlyle brand. Only difference is the Carlyle ones are 90 tooth. I should have looked through the comments long ago I guess)
I have the original set sk for 9 yrs. broke 8mm On year one and 13mm year 9. Warranty the 8mm and they replaced with ez-red. I seen they went to mountain and now platinum
I did a video on the Platinum version of these recently. Soon after Carlyle sent me their version of these for free that I also made a video on. The Carlyles are 90 tooth versions verses all the others that are 72 tooth versions. A poster on my video said the Matco versions were 90 tooth as well but I have not confirmed that. The EZ Red models now have a positive stop built into the them where the fastener will not pass all the way through, they also changed up the reversing mechanism where the switch is on top now. I would assume they are still being manufactured by Kabo.
I'm with you brother. The Mountain long (for more leverage) ratchet box wrench is my most favorite and, like you, the most used tool in my tool set. I started with the 12 / 14 mm but eventually got an used set going up to 19 mm. I'm buying another set for my mobile tool box as well. I'm going to do a video comparing and contrasting this tool with socket ratchet wrenches and short box wrenches.
I would have to agree. I use these wrenches, branded by Monster in my case, daily. I did buy the larger set mainly for Land Rover brake caliper bolts. 21mm 12 point, so the extended size wrenches Work exceptionally for this. There are a few more uses, but for my daily, as I’m a Land Rover technician, this is the most common usage.
I would have loved to see them come out with six point wrenches, maybe they will. I personally don't like spline drive wrenches or twelve point wrenches.
I got the rebranded Matco version... paid $100 extra for that Matco stamp to. And broke the 15mil the 2nd time I used it. Not as impressive as I was hoping to be but maybe it was a fluke. I thought they were Matco Matco not rebranded Matco. Broke it on a damn seized up tie rod or ball joint I cant remember.
I got a Tekton set a year ago. I really like them but sometimes regret not choosing these instead. Having both isn't a bad idea. With 6 points, the Tektons are nice on rusted suspension bolts and wonder how well spline drive would work with that. I can see where these would really excel on engine accessories.
I got a set of Tekton ratcheting wrenches love the 6 points I have a Matco set of double box ratcheting wrenches but honestly thinking of swapping them out and putting them in my car or leaving them home and buying a set of Tekton double box
Thanks for the review. The warranty part kinda steers us diy-ers without a tool truck to pay the $100 Carlyle branded premium to avoid the "mail and wait" process.
Debating on getting these or the 120xp xl by gearwrench. I'm only a diyer, so I don't real need, and can't afford both. I know you own both sets. I really like the offset on the mountain, but the gearwrench has a zero offset on the non ratcheting end. Would you recommend buying one set over the other, and if I really should eventually buy both which should I buy first?
Great video. I've been looking at getting some of these wrenches. Hey, at the end when you say "if you didn't like my video, give me a thumbs down" you should change that to "if you didn't like my video hit that thumbs down TWICE" lol
Ive been looking at picking up a few double box end wrenches just not sure which ones i want or if i want ratcheting or not lol the clearence on the ratcheting ones is what bothers me since ratchet wrenches tend to be fatter than a normal wrench
A friend of mine has those and they’re badass. I was thinking of getting some, but I heard that Mountain you have to warranty wherever you bought them. That made me think about getting Gearwrench instead.
Just wanted to say thanks for the review. I just got the Carlyle 90T set, i know it's not the mountian set but I got in the market for this style after your viedo
Wow cool, good to know. Aslo great channel watching has helped me make better choices buying tools. There's alot of crap out there, it''s nice to have professional advice.
How easy was the warranty process with them and how long did it take you to get a new wrench? I know snap on sells ez red but Idk about their warranty. Plus I'm sure there is the snap on tax as well :/... Just being a little cautious before buying. Hope to hear from you soon
How do You like these over the gearwrench set where one side is fixed for breaking nuts/bolts, and the other side is ratcheting? I went and bought that set last week
Are there's the same as the matco dubble flex head ratcheting wrench or what truck carrys them? I'm deffenetly in the market for some! You sold them to me I must have. Thanks for your time
I work on heavy equipment and have a 32mm ratchet wrench that comes in handy sometimes but most of the times its my half inch ratchet and 32mm socket so i guess it just depends on what your working on
I just got this Mountain ratchet wrench set, looks like a good quality overall. My only concern is that the smallest 8-10 mm wrench looks kinda flimsy, the metal is so thin and bends if you apply force with both hands (like if you did with a ruler). Is it normal? Maybe it won't break, or be all crooked over time. Are manufacturers saving metal in this way or what do you think? All other sizes look and feel fine.
I've bought a lot of my tools based on your recommendations. These are some of my favorites. I use them every day at work and whenever I do work at my house, this is what I bring home. Keep up the real world videos.
It took me 8 hours to do a water pump on a MK1 Merc Vito. Now he shows me these!
lol I can relate.
Ouch!
Agreed, I was in same boat and it's exactly why I went with icon
I was wondering if the set that I just saw at harbor freight in icon brand was the same. Thanks for the clarification. I'm going to pick up a set
Haha, I broke an 8mm craftsman wrench doing the exact same thing on a Jaguar trans fill plug not even a month ago! I ended up cutting off the end of an allen L wrench, which worked for me.
I just picked up the Matco version yesterday. I went with Matco just for ease of warranty since im lucky to have a very reliable Matco driver.
I have both the EZ Red and Mountain set. Love them, my go to tool all the time. NOT a high torque tool, the hinge pin is too soft and will bend or break, and the inner ratcheting part can crack but still works. Overall, a must have for everything he described!
Dude you're going to love those... I have the platinum version and they're my favorite wrenches
Napa has the same set on sale through the end of the month for $115.99 which would include their lifetime warranty. 5PC XL Double Box Flex Ratcheting Wrench Set - Metric. Part #: CHT RWLBFL5M
I got the them. The Carlyle version have the 90 tooth I believe the mountain version has 72 tooth. I love them

One more thing, why you do not use a 6 points 1/2 drive 19mm for Honda crankbolt?
yang song turning a motor is far less torque than removing the crank bolt itself ..
I'm sort of torn between the two sets now. Don't really have enough money for both
Was looking on Amazon.
Appears to be same wrench as klutch from northern tool... I love them. Very very good and I use them professionally. Hard, heavy use.
The Carlyle branded ones are great too and easy to get warrantied
Ive owned this set for id say about three years i havent had a problem with them these are my go to tool. Use them everyday.
+geo dude i do tend to abuse them, more my fault then the tool
I just bought the matco set to use on tensioners and for alignments on audi's. The guy next to me has the mountain set and they are identical
Yep all made by Kabo
Gonna do my Audi supercharger soon, was thinking of getting these. Do you think it’s a good choice for a 2015 Q7?
Carlyle at Napa. This set is currently $116
Its 5 years later and this set is now $400.00 WOW.
Those wrenches are a must on mini coopers water pumps... Best buy indeed
Matco has a set now, so if youre having warranty issues because they are the trucks brand maybe that will be a good route. And the larger sizes come in a 2pc set(21-24mm) from Monster tools
+brian smith my indy tool guy warranties them no problem
There great wrenches I used the 8mm on 6.4 powerstrokes all the time and I use the 18mm to torque turn 6.0 heads near the hvac box. Highly recommend these
I have chewed up heads with spline drive but only 2 compared to all times it’s saved me
Love mine. 12x14 and 17x19 get a lot of play. I do have an extra 12x14 in case of breakage, as that one gets used the most. Mine are PLATINUM by ATD. Great get for any tech.

Very useful addition to the toolbox. I've reefed on them hard enough I had to put a glove on (edges are a little sharp). One warranty so far (reversing button issue).
Long pattern ratcheting wrenches are a must, once you use them you wonder how you did without them. Excellent review.
That was one strong 8mm bolt! Thought it would snap off before a wrench would bend. Take it back to Sears for replacement before they are gone!
+Monte Stu 8mm hex bit, from snap on never broke or stripped the hole, plug on the side of the tranny , the Craftsman wrench was something i found in a car so not worried about it
I understand there is issues with getting warranty work done if you buy it online.
+SATAMAN Schmidt i stated in the video that they are made by KABO😉
Another Kabo feature so I’ve heard is a screw on the side of the head that helps hold the ratcheting mechanism. My Carlyle’s have it.
I have the old Matco non offset non reversible type. Matco has since made the offset type. I’ve been meaning to pick up the newer version.
I will say there a few situations where space is tight . You need the flat clearance. But if your not careful ( because it’s non reversible) you get stuck. Must haves ! Love those things, I seem to use the smallest 3 the most often
I can see a need for these wrenches. I have a few spline drive sockets and wrenches, they work well but you're correct, if its not seated properly it can cause damage.
yep did the same thing on a jag blew out 2 of my 8mm long wrenches and 2 5/16 long wrenches shit was on there tight!!
Carlyle,. Great wrenches for cars like Honda's n Toyotas
How do you find quality wise?
Mac used to carry them but they had a falling out with monster/Mountain so now he doesn't carry their tools anymore. Now they have exact same tool but rebranded as "Platnium" used my co workers today for the first time and was pleased.
Can't live without my mountain Wrench set. I've broken a handful of them to. I guess next time you will pull the fill plug first before draining it. Lol
+How to Automotive lol, fixing a leak on the pan,aka pan/filter no choice as it was low on fluid
I bought the Platinum brand. My 12mm 14mm broke in less than a year. I switched to matco.
Both are made by Kabo FYI
I’ve got a set of these, love them to bits, use them every day. Head tech has a set that he beats the piss out of. I’ve seen him snap 19 and 21 MM bolts with them. Very stout tools
I bought this same set a few years ago from Northern Tool. Klutch branded. They are great wrenches, but that spline drive will definitely get caught on bolts heads.
I have several EZ-RED for difficult areas. Need to get new ones. Great tutorial.
I have the larger ones use them a lot for alignments at the dealership mostly fca vehicles
Perfect for doing nissan rear brake Calipers and Replacing Serpentine Belts.
I have a set of Kamasa's (Swedish high quality tool brand) i use them several times each day, works perfect when unloading tensioners, upper bolts on rear brake calipers on fwd VW's and lower downpipe bolt on Saab 9-5 ;) Best tool investment this year forsure!

Realistically no, but they can make a job easier
These are absolutely worth it, the 12/14 is probably one of my favorite tools in my tool box. I would get them from Matco or Icon instead of mountain, these will break so you want to have a good warranty.
I have the set from Platinum. Best tool I’ve ever bought.
Wonder if the GW flex double box end wrenches would be a better option, they are spline as well.
Just subscribed. You’re one of the dudes on RUclips I can take advice from on tools and not have to worry about bullshit
I actually just bought these after using my coworkers. I was trying to decide between them and the icon.
Their the same thing sourced from the same company
Those wrenches are worth every penny spent on them. No hiccups no operational issues..Need to get them for my TOOL box at home

I have the original set sk for 9 yrs. broke 8mm On year one and 13mm year 9. Warranty the 8mm and they replaced with ez-red. I seen they went to mountain and now platinum
All are made by Kabo just rebranded
I have The Matco extra long flex head ratcheting on one Side. Off set on the other
I have platnium for metric and ez red for sae and absolutely love em
I did a video on the Platinum version of these recently. Soon after Carlyle sent me their version of these for free that I also made a video on. The Carlyles are 90 tooth versions verses all the others that are 72 tooth versions. A poster on my video said the Matco versions were 90 tooth as well but I have not confirmed that.

Mark Fox the mountains and matco are also 90 tooth. Figured I’d put this here for everyone to see. The platinums etc. indeed are 72 not 90.👍🏼👍🏼
I'm with you brother.
Have the set PLATINUM, no problems yet! My Favorite go to wrenches!
Got same set rebranded to cornwell tools...paid 175.00 but do feel like will break .iv seen them flex and bend but not broke yet
South Georgia Tools
Hey Jesse, a belated Merry Christmas to you. 👍
I have a set they are great ! The only time I have broken one is when I abused it .Matco makes them up.
I have a set under the name 'Platinum'. Comes in really great for turbos on heavy commercial truck.
My go to at this point.
The completer set that's available now, is a must aswell.
Got my set for 137.00 shipping included. Honestly they will last forever if you dont use them as breaker bars lol.
I would have loved to see them come out with six point wrenches,
maybe they will.
How did you end up breaking the 12/14 mm wrench? Was it the same? Bolt was over torqued?
If they were Bought under the EZ red name any idea on how the warranty would work through the EZ red company?
What is your thoughts on the tekton 6 point vs these?
I was wondering where I can get then warrantied I got some as a gift? Thank you
I'm between these and the Tekton set. Love the 6pt, but no offset.
Yeah I have the platinum version off the Mac truck! I love them!!
Thanks for the review. The warranty part kinda steers us diy-ers without a tool truck to pay the $100 Carlyle branded premium to avoid the "mail and wait" process.
Late comment but thanks. Helped me decide whether to buy or not
Debating on getting these or the 120xp xl by gearwrench. I'm only a diyer, so I don't real need, and can't afford both. I know you own both sets. I really like the offset on the mountain, but the gearwrench has a zero offset on the non ratcheting end. Would you recommend buying one set over the other, and if I really should eventually buy both which should I buy first?
These are a great set of wrenches , I wish they came in sae sizes.
Taiwan is not the same as China.
I have not broken one yet.
Great video. I've been looking at getting some of these wrenches. Hey, at the end when you say "if you didn't like my video, give me a thumbs down" you should change that to "if you didn't like my video hit that thumbs down TWICE" lol
+adamaj 🤣🤣🤣
Got the Matco version at least I can send them in for warranty. Can't live without them
fomocore sir can you confirm they have unlimited warranty under Matco??
Yes. But they've just updated the design to something you may not like
Do you like the mountains better than the snap on
Love the custom offset 😂
Ive been looking at picking up a few double box end wrenches just not sure which ones i want or if i want ratcheting or not lol the clearence on the ratcheting ones is what bothers me since ratchet wrenches tend to be fatter than a normal wrench
A friend of mine has those and they’re badass. I was thinking of getting some, but I heard that Mountain you have to warranty wherever you bought them. That made me think about getting Gearwrench instead.
I was wondering about this brand. I keep going back and forth struggling to go with those or 6 point. But I am just a DIY guy.
I use my 15 13 all the time no problems yet
Had an SK set years ago.
I realize that this is an old video but are you still happy with these wrenches? Any issues being too long or is that one of the benefits?
Thanks
Mike
Been looking forward to this one! Thanks,
I’m tempted to just buy the 13 15 for mostly domestic. Debating on that or the set.
Just wanted to say thanks for the review. I just got the Carlyle 90T set, i know it's not the mountian set but I got in the market for this style after your viedo
Made by kabo, same as mountain
Wow cool, good to know. Aslo great channel watching has helped me make better choices buying tools. There's alot of crap out there, it''s nice to have professional advice.
How easy was the warranty process with them and how long did it take you to get a new wrench? I know snap on sells ez red but Idk about their warranty. Plus I'm sure there is the snap on tax as well :/... Just being a little cautious before buying. Hope to hear from you soon
You should creat your own offset wrenches. You already have one. It sucks when one fastener takes out multiple tools
What tool truck carries these? Im weary to buy them online and not have warranty support. The mountain website says limited warranty not lifetime
Matco carries the 90 tooth version for $300
Definitely handy looking!
+Thomas EXOVCDS they are very handy!
How do
You like these over the gearwrench set where one side is fixed for breaking nuts/bolts, and the other side is ratcheting? I went and bought that set last week
+88r3ckless i generally grab these over the gearwrench set unless they are really tight or the 0 offset works better
Are there's the same as the matco dubble flex head ratcheting wrench or what truck carrys them? I'm deffenetly in the market for some! You sold them to me I must have. Thanks for your time
Matco's, platinum, mountain, atd etc are all made by KABO and are the same tools with different names on them
Thank you so much for the reply!
Would there be a use for 24 to 32 huskey ratchet wrenchs i saw at home dept? Didnt know they came that big
+Anthony Robles i use my gearwrench 21,22 and 24 a good bit, 32 i can't think of a use of the ratcheting side at all
24 and lower great for German suspension and alignments
I have only broken the 8/10 once and that was abuse on my part, several others were broken as well including a Snap On
Your a badass flat rate Master!!!
